Work Text:

Bowser was beaming at the success of his most recent scheme so far.

The plan was simple at first. Launch a surprise attack on Pi’illo Island to kidnap Princess Peach as per usual and find a way to defeat Mario so that he would rule the Mushroom Kingdom once and for all.

However… these plans began to divert once he met the resident villain of this island.

Antasma was a surprising addition to Bowser’s plans but he would be lying if he said he was an unwelcome one. Not only had the Bat King been willing to work with him as soon as they met, but his help had given Bowser greater success than he could imagine. Not only did Bowser now have an ancient powerful artifact known as the Dream Stone but thanks to its power, Princess Peach was now in his clutches and he now had an AWESOME fortress in the name of Neo Bowser’s Castle.

Bowser couldn’t lie, Antasma’s villainy was impressive and the Bat King himself wasn’t a bad conversationalist once you got past all the screeching, but he knew that it was a bad idea to get attached to his new ally. Antasma was still a villain at the end of the day after all so he would of course be plotting to double cross Bowser at the nearest opportunity.

“Haff the minions worked on impersonating Peach?” Antasma suddenly asked from behind Bowser, startling the Koopa King but he would dare not show that in front of his “buddy”.

“Yep. Kamek just texted me that Toadsworth is completely fooled by him and the Elite Trio’s disguise. Mario and his cronies should be in Driftwood Shores soon enough.” Bowser shrugged as he showed Antasma the text messages between him and his head minion.

“Are you confident that they vill be able to apprehend them?” Antasma asked skeptically.

“Honestly, I doubt it. They’re tough minions but Mario has beaten me way too many times to be confident on that front.” Bowser sighed as he stuffed his phone back into his shell.

“A pity, but I suppose it vill not make a difference. Vin or lose, this vill at least give us enough time to continue powering the Dream Stone.” Antasma reassured his ally.

“Can’t we just take over the island now?! We already have this sweet castle after all.” Bowser scoffed impatiently.

“Patience, my friend. Vee may have the upper hand with the Dream Stone but it’s power has LIMITS. Vee definitely von’t be able to deal with Mario or Dreambert properly unless our power is at full capacity.” Antasma reminded the Koopa King which made Bowser grunt, but he supposed that his fri- ally had a point.

“So after we defeat those pests… where do we stand after that?” Bowser crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at Antasma who merely smiled at him instead of his usual smirk.

“Vee both conquer the vorld of course. Obviously you vill have more claim to this place since I’ve been banished for years but by the end of this, this realm will be ours’ to rule.” Antasma said happily.

“Alright then, sounds pretty sweet.” Bowser forced a smile as he vehemently tried to deny any possibility of enjoying the idea of ruling this world with Antasma.

“Glad you see it that vay. I haven’t steered you vrong so far, have I?” Antasma smiled back.

Maybe Antasma hadn’t steered him wrong so far, but other villains like Cackletta, the Shroobs, Fawful, and Count Bleck HAVE screwed him over before in humiliating ways.

He was not about to let history repeat itself. Not this time.

Notes:

My first attempt at a Mario Fanfiction. Naturally the RPGs are the easiest to create fanfics out of so doing one for Dream Team seemed best. I found Bowser and Antasma’s dynamic pretty underrated in all honesty and figured this would be fun.
