Chapter 1: Chapter 1 (Prologue but not really??? You need to read it to get context) Toby

Chapter Text

I’m starting to wish this was more like any other house party I've been to. I’m also wishing that I left 3 hours ago. I’m really wishing that I didn’t participate in truth or dare.

Andy just walked out of the bathroom after being shoved in with an… interesting dress and wig.

And wow

He looks… good. Wait! No he doesn't. Andy is a boy. A boy on the football team. A boy who is my best friend. A boy who is currently in a nice dress and crappy wig.

The girls who gave him the dare are laughing so hard they can’t breathe, the boys on the football team are recording this to taunt him later, and everyone else just doesn't care. I’m the only one who can’t keep my eyes to myself.

“Stop looking at me like that! I know I look awful!” Andy’s voice interrupts my spiral.

The words won't come out of my mouth, so I just pry my eyes away and cross my arms.

Once he isn't focused on me anymore, I look back. He is so perfect. Like, as a person. Not in the dress. Totally not in the dress. But, I can’t keep my eyes off of him.

“Ok! I did the dare! I’m done.” Andy is shoving his way back to the bathroom to change, and the girls that gave him the dare are trying to keep him away.
I can’t do this anymore. I keep my eyes on the floor and shove my way out the front door.

The cool, fresh air hits me in the face, almost slapping me awake. Andy?! I was having those thoughts about Andy? No way. Nonononono! I run the rest of the way to my car.

The drive home is anything but soothing, which is strange because driving usually calms me down. I turn the radio up as loud as I can handle to drain out my thoughts.

By the time I make it home I just want to go to bed. I don't make an effort to be careful at all while sneaking back into the house. I check my phone. 2:14 am. Great, mom and dad are asleep anyways.

*****

I may have gotten home earlier than I thought I would, but my running mind keeps me up anyways. Why can’t I get him out of my head! I eventually fall into a restless sleep.
