Chapter Text
(LONGER INTRO) It was sometime after the Great Flour War, and lands and kingdoms lay in ruin. Earthbread, on top of the recent calamities, was seemingly trapped inside a snowy hell. Constant snow, ice, and miserable weather.
Dark Cacao Cookie, the leader of the isolated Dark Cacao Kingdom, finally decides to embark on a journey in search of his son, and the truth behind his absence. He wants to apologize, and not greet him with his blade, but open arms. Being used to the weather, he steps out into the freezing terrain of Crispia. Just what was out there? Is Dark Choco Cookie even still alive in this hell?
As his journey persists, he comes across Hollyberry, former leader and still an avid Hollyberry Juice addict, drinking away her worries. Seeing no point in staying alone, since both of their kingdoms lay ravaged and broken, they join forces, traversing the lands….together. Similar things happen with Pure Vanilla Cookie…but…
Pure Vanilla seems to be in a more….broken state. He questions his worth, his work, and his accomplishments. Was it all just a lie? A cheap trick? Was it all made to be destroyed in the end? He couldn’t even protect what he cared about most. Dark Cacao managed to spot him through the mist, a dim, golden light. Shining in stark contrast to the endless white that fell from the ever-grey sky. Pure Vanilla was reluctant to join them at first, but he had nothing left. Maybe this could be another start. Another search for the absolute truth.
All three had set out into Crispia and beyond to repair what was lost,
and to find the Truth.
CHAPTER ONE
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS!
Clank….clank….shuffle…The sound of walking from the great leader, and known warrior, Dark Cacao Cookie, could be heard down the hall. Other warriors and servants look at each other, questioning why their lord would be out walking around the castle this late at night. He almost never leaves his throne. He always sits, contemplating until dawn. But not today, they suppose. Dark Cacao soon turns the corner, walking past some servants.
“Hello, my lord!”
A servant greets him. He gives a simple grunt in return. Whatever was on his mind must be dire. Something important. Too important. It was about his son. Dark Choco Cookie. He was worried. For the first time in a…very long time. He was confused. Why now, after the War? Couldn't he just have some time of peace? A period in which he cares or thinks nothing of his mistakes…his wrongdoings..? ..Nevermind that, Dark Cacao wondered where his son could’ve possibly run off to in this cold, cold weather the world was cursed with.
He walks around for hours and hours, sometimes sharply turning around and slamming his fist into a wall, yelling for answers. Why did he care about someone who had gone as far as to slice their own father with his blade? Why did he worry about a little piece of….
“ARGH! My life! All of it! What a nuisance! Just….”
He gets the idea to travel throughout the land of Crispia. The once bright and decorated continent, turned into a white sheet. He had the idea to travel in search of his son. Oh. Oh hell no. He wasn't going to do that. Not in a million years. But the thought wouldn't fade. What was with him?
After hours of contemplating, he finally decides to set out into Crispia. He had nothing better to do, not anymore. The thought of his son wouldn't, couldn't leave. He grabs his Grapejam Chocoblade, and puts on his armor and many layers. With a final look back at his cold, imposing throne, he starts yet another walk down the hall, gathering some other needs like food, water, beer…With a long walk through the run down Citadel, he makes it outside, and walks towards the large gates that were almost always locked.
Peasants and other residents of the rather small city that resides outside of the large, dark fortress look at their lord with question. Many haven’t ever seen him outside of some speeches and whatnot, and others haven't seen him at all. Dark Cacao notices their frozen looks as he walks, and he hated it. What, can he not be a normal cookie for once? Can he not take walks? Just leave him alone! He rolls his eyes as one of the merchants tries to get close to him, and he mindlessly shoves them in the process.
Crunch….crunch….He finally makes it to the large gates. One of his warriors, who was guarding the gate, speaks up.
“What is your business here? Why must you need access to the hell that sits out ther-”
Dark Cacao pointed his blade to the poor cookie’s chest.
“Open them, you fool! I need out there!”
The warrior notices the slightly crazed look in his leader's eyes, along with a hint of…pleading? He swallows, and motions for the other warrior in the watch tower above to pull open the gates, for the first time in, well, years. Another guard who watches guard outside the walls noticed Dark Cacao fading into the white mist that just kept pouring down.
“Sir! You have no servants with you! You have bread, beer, water, and your blade! How are you supposed to survive when you have such little substance!?”
Dark Cacao gave the guard a stern, purple eyed glare.
“I have myself. I don't need anyone or anything else, because it shall just drag me down.”
The guard seemed skeptical.
“Ok, my lord. Good luck.”
Dark Cacao wanted to say “yea, yea.”, but he must not waste his breath or energy on such useless words. He slowly steps into the Darkness that lay outside in this mountainous terrain, before his movements quickened. He was burning with questions, with bits of pride and much determination. Days soon pass as he climbs mountains, fights off various monsters, and sleeps. He still has no sight, nor has he found traces of Dark Choco. He slowly starts to think. He's let his kingdom down by leaving for such trivial matters. He’s no leader, just a sentimental fool who’s let emotion take over. He should just plunge his blade into his chest, just let it all go…
He’s becoming the thing he hates, isn't he? He's becoming just like that fool of a son!
Yet another snowy morning arises. But outside of his small camp, a large monster lurks outside, like an omnipresent shadow. He grabs his blade and puts on his armor, running towards the monster, weapon up and ready. He slashes at it, but it seemed to be some sort of..dark…jelly like…thing? As his blade went through the murky black, it simply separated, before conjoining back together. It roared, its red eyes staring daggers at Dark Cacao. He falters for a moment. Why did it affect him? It's a simple monster. The monster roars, before nearly slamming its fist into Dark Cacao’s face, but he cuts the fist off. The fist falls on the floor, and like a magnet to iron, it attaches and sinks back into the sludge that covers the thing’s body. It just wouldn’t die, would it??
“You…thing! Die already! Fear my blade, fool!”
“GRAAAAHHHH….RARR!”
The monster, the moment it finally comes close to landing a blow on Dark Cacao, gets slammed into by a familiar woman in warm robes with a fluffy collar, much like Dark Cacao’s own clothing. The pink shield, blessed with imbued power that will forever radiate off the shield, bore a Soul Jam, although it was cracked and faded. Going back to the creature, the black sludge that covered its body was knocked off, soon vaporizing once it touched the snow. It was your average Cake Monster, but a cracked, red core was inserted into its chest, “jam” surrounding the area. No wonder it was so angry, so distressed. It was in pain, being controlled like a puppet. Dark Cacao finally sinks his blade into the cakey flesh of the monster, killing it. It falls over into the snow.
He finally got a good look at the woman who had started to walk away. Pink hair, torn, fluffy robes with inscriptions of dragons and a heart shaped Soul Jam. There were pointy green leaves from some sort of berries decorating her hair and attire.
HOLLYBERRY!
He doesn't know why, but he started running. Fast.
“Er, excuse me! Wait!”
Hollyberry turned her head, and upon noticing who it was, she dropped her mug of juice.
“Dark ... .Dark Cacao? Is that you, my friend?”
Dark Cacao’s eyes widened, and he set his blade against a tree, walking towards her.
“Hollyberry….”
She unexpectedly runs towards him, tackling him in a friendly hug.
“Hello, my friend! It's been so long…too long! What are you out in the cold for? Since when did you take long distance walks? We’re close to the sea, you know?”
Dark Cacao pulls back just enough to look at her.
“Well. I…wanted to finally go out in search of my son. He left without warning after slicing me with his own, tainted blade. I want to know the truth behind his absence, and what he’s been up to. I also want a new start, sort of.”
Hollyberry chuckled, patting his shoulder.
“So we came out of our torn down kingdoms for similar reasons, eh? I want a new start, too! But what a helicopter parent you are, hmmm?”
Dark Cacao’s face flushed, looking down and away.
“No…I'm simply expressing curiosity.”
“Sure you are, Cacao! Well. I must be off!”, Crunch…crunch…Hollybery said that as she walked away.
She had started to walk away. Disappointing. Dark Cacao was a fierce, lone warrior. A guiding light for his isolated kingdom, a man who works alone (omegaverse alpha?....sorry.). So why did he feel alone suddenly? He couldn't have missed his…er…..companion in battle, that much. Maybe. Just maybe this was a part of his new start…? He had previously said he only needed himself, and that others would drag him down…but…
“Halt.”
Hollyberry looks back once more, a little confused.
“Yes? Do yo-”
“Join me.”, Dark Cacao said sternly.
“Excuse me?”
“Join. Me.” Dark Cacao was now walking towards her.
“We can traverse the lands…together...Complete our goals…..together…!”
Hollyberry was confused. He wasn't the mushy “oh lets do this together!” type person, but he did value teamwork. She didn’t know if she should take his offer, or leave him. He’s a bitter man, one who holds grudges. If she were to leave him, he might get mad. She doesn't wanna let anyone down again ... .That would…..hm. She had planned to go the opposite direction. But she's already seen all that Crispa has to offer in last experiences..So she has no other choice, hm? She would have to satisfy his wishes, one way or another.
“Fine. I'll travel with you, my friend.”
YES! She really said yes! Dark Cacao contained his very rare show of excitement as he started to pack up his stuff. Soon, he joins Hollyberry on the walk towards the sea. The journey was the same as the last, but more lively. More laughs, more experiences. Easier battles in this tiring snow. Soon, they come across a dim, snow covered portal in the midst of black, dusty cliffs, with bits of raisin everywhere. It had the colors of the Ancients on it, so it was likely…..the portal to the Vanilla Kingdom!
“I recognize the symbol……It reminds me of ... .our friends.”, Hollyberry stated. She seemed almost…..Sad.
“Yes. It's very tempting to step in this…thing…”, Dark Cacao said, with a curious undertone.
“Well. Better late than never, no?”, Hollyberry laughs as she jumps onto the…thing.
She seemed to have faded out of existence the moment she stepped on. Dark Cacao, worried, follows after her. They both were greeted with the crumbling and dark sight of the fallen Vanilla Kingdom soon after teleporting through the portal to the Vanilla Kingdom.
CHAPTER ONE-END.
