Work Text:

The night’s cold air nipped at onlooking fans as a fight between Lola Pop and Master Mummy prepared to begin its second round.

“Master Mummy currently takes the lead with one win under his bandages! Can Lola pull out a victory, or will she have to suck up a loss? We’ll just have to watch and see, folks!” Biff kept the worry out of his voice as he spoke to the viewers.

To him, something about this fight didn’t feel right.

The Mausoleum always made the commentator uneasy, sure, but there was something else that made him nervous; the way the Sucker Puncher had been acting.

The first match was completely normal up until the street performer lost, and it was as if a switch had been flipped. Lola’s laughter died down and her smile vanished the second she was considered knocked out. When she got back up, she wore a scowl on her face and it seemed like she was shaking with slight anger.

Weirdest of all, she had this different glint in her eyes, as if someone else had control over her body instead of herself.

Biff hoped Lola Pop would snap out of whatever funk she was in as he turned his attention back to the second round about to start.

“ROUND TWO…ARMS!” Biff cried, and the fight began.

The Grim Creeper threw out a charged Phoenix, which hit Lola dead-on and knocked her down.

The Sucker Puncher rolled, got back up, and punched with both a Funchuk and a Biffler, but Mummy stepped out of the way of the first punch and merely flinched and the second.

Master Mummy then decided to go in for one of his infamous grabs. It connected and left the clown on the ground with a face full of old concrete.

“Pfft, you think you’re really something!” Lola Pop jeered while dusting herself off once again. She didn’t attack, instead opting to stay defensive.

“Why such hostility? Are you upset that you are going to lose to me again?” Master Mummy genuinely asked as he also held back on throwing any punches.

By no means did he expect what she said next.

“I hope you NEVER find your family!”

The fans all gasped, and for a moment or two it was as if time froze.

That comment made something snap in Master Mummy, and he immediately removed both his Phoenix and his Retorcher ARM to grab the clown tightly by the throat, “WHAT DID YOU JUST WISH UPON ME?!” he roared in her face.

“Ha! Looks like someone’s feeling extra emotional tonight!” the Sucker Puncher still managed to taunt despite her growing lack of oxygen.

“Time out! Put a pause on the fight, because this isn’t allowed!” Biff turned off his headset and rushed out of his commentator box to break the two up.

When he finally got to the scene, the deity realized how hard the situation would be to soothe.

Master Mummy stood at 231 centimeters tall and held Lola Pop high in the air.

Biff, on the other hand, was roughly 112 centimeters tall and would definitely be unable to put an end to the fight with his height. He knew he would have to use his voice instead.

“Let go of her! Don’t provoke him! Both of you, stop…!”

The mummy dropped the clown but continued to give her dirty looks.

The Sucker Puncher, on the other hand, appeared to be out cold.

“Lola! Are you still with us?” the commentator asked as he gently shook her.

The street performer shook her head to snap herself out of her daze before she finally said, “…huh…? What happened…? My head hurts…”

The Grim Creeper growled from behind the two, and Biff hoped he wouldn’t strike again. He had a feeling he knew what happened with Lola since he had seen it before with his own eyes and reported the incidents to Max Brass.

Fighters suddenly acting out of character and fighting completely differently were dubbed as ‘possessed by a being from some other world’ by the Commish, but neither he nor Biff quite knew what that outside force was.

All that was known was that it showed its true colors when given reason to do so, such as when it lost.

But the commentator knew he couldn’t just tell the fans that Lola was possessed, so he lied.

“Sorry, folks! Looks like Lola’s feeling a bit under the weather this evening! Not to worry, this fight will be rescheduled for a later date!” he faced the crowd and said after turning his mic back on.

“What…? But I feel-!” the Sucker Puncher was cut off by Biff putting a hand over her mouth.

“Uh…draw! Get home safe, everyone, and good night!” the commentator quickly added before ushering the two fighters out of the fans’ view.

Looks like he would have yet another incident to report to Max Brass.

He hoped they could figure out what was causing this soon.
