Player sat quietly on a swing set, not exactly swinging. They knew they didn’t deserve such simple fun. Not now at least.
For now they were simply taking in the colder winter air, fumbling with a piece of paper in their hands. It was a figure drawing of her that they were really proud of, they hoped she’d like it. It was almost strange to them how they found someone so similar to them, not only in the fact they both liked surfing and traveling, but many other aspects too.
They were both youngest children for instance— a coincidence sure, but funny one that they both chuckle at sometimes.
It was something Parker thought about to keep their mind off of other things. Like their hallucinations, their constant pains and aches from the swords, the fact that they were probably failing to keep up with their own needs.
“Parker~” kyokos voice piped up as she shook them awake. They fell asleep again? Whoops. At least they weren’t face first in wood chips.
They lifted their head, smiling at her sheepishly, “was I drifting off again? Sorry”
“No worries, heh!” She kissed them on the forehead, “is that for me?” She asked, pointing at the paper still clutched in their hand
“Mhm! Here” they handed the drawing over to her.
She sat down in the swing next to them, kicking her feet as she looked at the drawing “that’s me!? I look so good here!!” Her smile could light up a whole room. She was, in a sense, their sunlight.
They looked at her, just admiring her. She looked cute in her pink fluffy coat. There were so many things that they loved about her. The way her curly hair fell over her shoulders, the way her brown eyes sparkled in the sunlight.
They must’ve been staring at her for a while as she started waving her hand in front of their face
“Yoo-hoo! Anyone home?” She giggles
“Only your number one fan” they smirked. Their heart fluttered at her voice. It was almost embarrassing how head over heels they were for her.
“Yay!! Do you wanna get somethin to drink?”
“Sure. How does the iron cafe sound?”
“That’s perfect!” She carefully folded the drawing and put it into her pocket, standing up and offering her hand to them, “come on!”
They took her hand, though they nearly collapsed as they stood up, “ah, my legs must not be working today…” they sheepishly smiled, holding onto her.
“Do you need me to carry you?” She asked, worry plastered on her face. “I totally can! I’ve been getting stronger too!”
“Oh, nah, it’s okay… maybe let’s not go to the iron cafe..” they mumbled, their head landing on her chest.
“Are you okay?”
“Mhm… just a headache.”
“Alright… can you walk?”
“Yeah. I’ll be okay.” The hazy look in their eyes said otherwise. If they weren’t holding onto her for dear life they’d be face first on the floor.
“…” she stared at them, peeved that she was being pushed away— metaphorically, of course. She huffs, and scoops them up anyway. If they were gonna be stubborn, then she would be too.
“Oh…” they shut their eyes tightly.
“Hm?”
“Sorry. Wave of… of…” they put a gloved hand over their face, “dizziness. Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize for being dizzy! It’s probably the swords getting to you!” Started walking, making sure they were comfortable. “Sorry if I’m being rough or anything, I’m not as strong as griefer hehe”
“I’m not as strong as him either…” they paused, “god I feel dizzy…”
She sighs, steeling herself as she got to their hotel. She was grateful that it was generally quiet, the only sound being their breathing, the rustling of clothes and kyokos footsteps.
She put them down after they entered the elevator and they just crumpled.
“Player!” She quietly yelped, picking up their limp body
“….Ughhh….” They groaned, leaning into her.
“Oh shit— you’re hot!”
“Thankssss…. You too babygirl….” They slurred, their body completely draped over her hers.
“…” Kyoko flushed, speechless as she dragged player down the hall to their room, unlocking it. “Okay… how are you feeling? Nauseous? Aching?”
“…” their head lolled to the side as she laid them down, “no… just… hot. And my head hurts.”
“Alright.”
She had helped them take off their jacket and hoodie, putting a damp rag on their forehead
“Mn. Thanks…” they mumbled, their eyes fluttering closed as sleep caught up to them once more.
It hurt Kyoko to see them like this. So tired, sick, and weak. She worried constantly about them. It exhausted her. But she continued to do so anyways, even if they insisted they were being fussed over enough.
She laid down next to player, closing her own eyes and drifting off until they needed her.
…
Kyoko woke much later, seeing her beloved still asleep. Thank god. She got out of bed, checking up on them again.
“….still warm.” Her eyebrows furrowed. She then went over to her suitcase and popped it open, looking for the travel sized bottle of fever reducers she had. She stopped, realizing she was starting to spiral a bit as she watched them become conscious again.
They blinked, their eyelids heavy, it was clear that keeping their eyes open was gonna be hard for them. At least they were lying down.
“Kyoko? When did you get here…?”
“Hm? I’ve always been here.” She raised an eyebrow, suddenly questioning their connection to reality.
“Really? Is everything set up?” They groggily asked.
She decided for now to humor them, “yeah, I got everything set up, guests should be piling in any moment.”
“Mm. Thanks.” They shut their eyes before forcing them back open “sorry for passing out on you. Did I have any booze?”
Her suspicions were correct. Kyoko shook her head, “no, the alcohol hasn’t been opened yet you’re still sober.”
“Then why do I feel so nauseous…?”
“Probably from that fever you developed.”
“Oh…shit… sorry…” their eyes suddenly widened as they sat upright, immediately falling backwards as their head spun “ah— shit! Our date!” They ran their hands down their face “fuckkkkk…..I’m so sorry….”
“Don’t apologize… you’re burning up really bad… I’ll be right back okay?” She continued digging through her bag, finally finding the medicine. She turned back, handing them a couple of pills and a cup of water.
After taking said medicine and water, Parker held her hand, pulling her closer. “Come here…”
“Mhm?”
“I love you… a lot.”
“I love you too you dork… heh.” She sat by them
“Can I take you to dinner?”
“Tonight?”
“Yeah! Just the two of us. A nice restaurant, or maybe somewhere quiet?”
“We’re not going outside until that fever of yours drops, you idiot” though her words were a bit harsh, there was only love in her voice for them.
“Yeah? Well… I’m *your* idiot— forever!” They flashed their hand, which had a lack of a wedding ring.
Kyoko blinked, confused “…?” She raised an eyebrow before it dawned on her “you mean— you?? ME??? MARRIED!?”
“Shit—! I’ve said too much!! I’m sorry— I spoiled it!”
“No, tell me everything! Who proposed first? Who wears the dress? Is my sister there!?”
“Calm down… you’re getting loud…”
“Sorry, sorry…” she giggles, leaning in, “seriously though…. Are you gonna spoil more?”
“I’d rather not. Space-time continuum shit…you know how it goes.”
“I suppose you’re right…” she nods, standing back up, “I’m gonna head to the store to buy us some Gatorade— what flavor do you want?”
“Mmm…how about cucumber?”
“Cucumber???”
“Oh— fuck. That one doesn’t exist yet… lemon-lime then?”
“Snrk… sure thing, hon!” She giggles, heading out as Parker is left laying there, wondering what else they could spoil about the future.
