The smell of shockingly cheap facepaint filled the air, combined with the smell of paintbrush soaked water and Sephora brand eyeliner. Anubis sat by the tub in the bathroom, simply looking somewhat annoyed as Rowan treated his face like a canvas.
“Stop moving!” The man snapped, though there was some fondness in the command. In one hand he held the brush he was using and in the other a swollen sponge blender. On the counter sat his phone, playing a video tutorial on creating a beginner friendly tradgoth look. “You’re worse than a fucking teenager. What are you, 60 now?”
“I’m sitting perfectly still and you know full well I’m 51.” Anubis nearly huffed. “I could do this myself, it’s not like all my muscle memory is gone.”
“No no no. I said I’m taking you out and making you try to act like a normal ass person again, so I’m responsible for you. I’m going to doll you up so fucking good you’ll be BEGGING me for it.”
Anubis would have felt more fondness for that, if Rowan wasn’t constantly slamming the tools in his eye or nose whenever he looked back at the video tutorial. The rest of the outfit was done with…..somewhat more care at least. It really did remind Anubis of his old days out clubbing, covered in as many straps and chains and lace as he was. He could have gone without the demonias, however Rowan insisted on the tacky boots as an essential wardrobe piece for EVERYONE and not just anorexic girls needing more boosts than one.
“We should add some dog teeth or something onto this look.”
Anubis swore he must have dissociated for a second. “What?”
“You know, like skull markings, because of your name.” Rowan attempted to pose his hands into claw shapes despite the tools in them, baring his teeth like he had fangs. “Like Woof. Actual dog. With an ankh on your forehead for the Egyptian thing.”
Without even having the chance to hold it back, Anubis let out a chuckle. “Of course, you’re the artist I suppose."
“Damn right I am. Now sit back, I need to figure out how to do a dog skull….There's gotta be a teenage girl obsessed with wolves somewhere on youtube.”
