Chapter Text

David woke up to the smell of cinnamon, he rubbed his eyes as he wandered downstairs, expecting to see his dad baking something for him and tank for breakfast before school. When he got to the kitchen he froze, the counters were filled with baked goods, and in the middle was Tank. They were taking what looked to be cinnamon rolls out of the oven, headphones on as they dance.
It isn't rare to see Tank baking, it’s become one of their favorite things to do when Gabe told him that she could use the kitchen whenever they wanted. And it’s nice to see them up, the past week they were so down, David had to drag her out of bed most days.
David slowly walked over, tapping his sibling's shoulder to let them know that he’s here. Tank spins to look at him, smiling wide as she takes off their headphones.
“Hey David! I make us some stuff to eat before school. We should have enough to bring some to Ash and Milo!” He was still in his pajamas, flour covering their clothing and hair.
“Ya, I noticed, thanks. How long have you been up?”
David looked around as he asked, it looked like Tank’s been baking for hours.
“Ummmm, well,” they checked the clock before counting on his fingers, “about, 3 hours.”
They look back up at him and grinned, clearly proud of themself, despite his worry and confusion David smiled back, not wanting to discourage them and ruin baking for her.
“Well, that's awesome, why don’t you take a shower before school? You're a mess.”
Tank laughed, shaking his hair out before nodding and running up the stairs to the bathroom. The moment David heard the bathroom door shut he ran to his dads room, knocking on the door as he rocked back and forth on his feet. Eventually Gabe opened the door, looking tired as he yawned.
“David? What is it bud?”
“Tanks acting strange” Gabe frowned slightly, sniffing the air as his brow furrowed, slowly following David to the kitchen, “they said that he’s been up for three hours baking.”
Gabe looked over the kitchen with wide eyes, walking over and picking up a muffin and biting into it, humming softly.
“Well, they did good,” Gabe then looks at David, "where's Tank now?”
“Shower, they were a bit of a mess”
Gabe nodded, smiling softly at him, “why don’t you go get ready for school, I’ll deal with this.”
David hesitantly nodded, he wanted to help, but as much as he hates it say, this may be a problem he needs to leave to the adults.

Gabe watched David go to get ready before sighing and looked over the kitchen, it was a mess, food and ingredients. It was strange, he knew Tank loved to bake, but he’s never done anything like that. He grabbed some boxes and started to put food into them. The kids can take one to school for their friends, and he can take another to work, then anything left he can take to the pack meeting tonight.
Gabe frowned, trying to think of any reason for Tank's sudden shift in mood. The last week she’s been so depressed, barely able to get out of bed, he had scheduled a doctor appointment for them already. Maybe he should ask the doctors to look through their parents' medical history.
Soon he hears footsteps running down the hallway, looking up to see Tank, who was completely ready by now, hair still wet as they rush to the door and pull on his shoes.
“Come on David! We got to go!”
Gabe watched them and quickly schooled his expression to look pleasant.
“Hey Tanker, you seem excited to go to school today, something going on?”
Tank finally seems to notice Gabe, and grins at him, quickly coming to help him clean.
“Nothing in particular, but I finished all my homework before I started baking, I can’t wait to see the look on Ash’s face when I show him!” They laughed and smiled up at him, grabbing a cinnamon roll and biting into it, bouncing on their heels.
“Well, good job, but it’s 6:15 bud, you guys don’t leave till 7:30, and you can’t just have sweets for breakfast. Let me make us some eggs to go with all this amazing stuff you made, alright bud. You must be tired.”
Tank sighed , frowning slightly but nodded, dropping her backpack near the door and turning on the tv, grabbing the consoles and starting up mario cart.
Gabe chuckled before grabbing a pan, butter, and the eggs. He started heating up the pan and melting the budder. Tank could only eat eggs if they were in the form of a cheese omelet, so he started with that.
At some point David appeared beside him, watching Tank as he chewed his nails, Gabe softly took his hand and let David take over the eggs, his son always needed to do something when he felt stressed. Gabe finished up packing up Takes baked goods and grabbed three plates, glancing over to Tank, who's currently entranced with his game.
“David”
His eldest looked at him, a small frown on his face.
“Watch your sibling during school today, I’m going to try and get their doctor appointment moved up, but just, make sure she’s safe.”
David nodded, clearly thinking about how to watch Tank without making them angry.
“I can do that.”
“Also take one of these boxes to school, I’m sure the others would love some.”
Gabe starts setting the table, putting a few muffins and cinnamon rolls out with the salt and pepper. Calling Tank over when David finishes with all the eggs.
Breakfast was relatively calm, but Tank definitely seems restless, chating David and Gabe's ears off about anything that come to mind. When it’s finally time for them to go Tanks practically dragging David out the door.
When Gabe heard to two drive off he called the clinic, seeing if there are any sooner openings.
