Chapter Text

"Hold still, Janis," Cady said as all the Plastics came at Janis with various make up brushes, beauty blenders, combs, and a hair straightener. Ugh. Janis was officially already regretting agreeing to this 'makeover'. Stupid Cady and her stupid pleading about how this would be a 'great bonding activity' for everyone to finally be friends. And stupid Janis for giving in and saying yes.

Foundation, blush, lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, somehow all were seemingly being applied to her face at once. When it came to make up, Janis tended to go for black and other darker colours — maybe the occasional bright purple, blue, or green if she was in the mood for something a little lighter. But she could see the pallet they were using, and it was 50 different shades of pale pink with names such as 'ribbon', 'princess', 'bubblegum', and 'care bear'. Barf. This was her literal nightmare.

She could already feel a headache coming on, not being helped by the tugging against her hair as Regina styled it. This was not going to be anywhere near as 'fun' or 'relaxing' as Cady had made it out to be. It was giving more 'held hostage' than 'spa day'.

"I'm going to go and pick out her outfit," Regina announced. "Are you girls all good to finish up her make up?"

"We got this," Cady agreed, with Gretchen and Karen nodding.

Janis raised an eyebrow as Karen picked up some bright pink body paint — but Cady was quick to remind Janis not to move, so with a sigh she slipped back into a more neutral expression. Surely Cady wouldn't set her up, right? This couldn't be some sort of prank to humiliate her when she and the Plastics were only just starting to (tentatively) get along and put the past behind them, could it?

But even after all this time Cady was a little too naïve for her own good. What if she was being tricked into letting the plastics humiliate Janis?

Though… what if this wasn't a prank or a trick, and they were genuinely just trying to give her a fun little makeover?

Janis inhaled deeply, trying to relax and clear her head.

She could very easily just be acting a little overly-paranoid. This was meant to be a new start for them all, so she maybe should at least try and not assume the worst.

"It's perfect!" Karen exclaimed as she and Cady and Gretchen finally stopped poking and prodding at Janis' face.

"I think it looks so good," Gretchen nodded, satisfied.

"It's really different to to your normal look," Cady sounded a little more hesitant than the others. "But it's fun to try something new, right?"

Regina came back out, shoving a skirt, singlet, and cardigan into Janis' arms. "Put these on."

"And don't you dare smear your make-up," Gretchen added. "We worked so hard on your new look!"

Janis was practically pushed into Regina's closet to change. The skirt was bright pink, very short, and — oh God — it had pleats. The singlet was mostly white with thick shoulder straps and the words 'A little bit dramatic' in hot pink letter. At least there was a jacket, even if it was a soft pale pink cardigan, something Janis wouldn't have normally gone for in a 1000 years.

Was she actually going to put these garments on her body? That was the real question.

"Is everything okay, Janis?" Cady asked through the closed closet door.

"Did you get stuck while putting your shirt on?" Karen asked. "Because that happens to me all the time. Shirts can be so confusing!"

"We can't wait to see the final look," Gretchen added.

Well, Janis didn't want to disappoint Cady, so… she took off her own jumper — a mostly black over-sized 'Fall Out Boy' hoodie — with her baggy pants and shirt soon joining it on the ground. She was doing this, and she was going to be the bigger person and assume this wasn't some sort of prank.

Inhaling deeply and nodding to try and hype herself up, Janis opened the closet door and strutted back out into Regina's room.

For a beat everyone remained quiet as Regina looked Janis up and down. Apparently even after all this time they were all going to defer what they thought until Regina George made up her mind.

"You look hot." Regina smiled.

"Oh Em Gee!" Gretchen exclaimed. "Yes!"

"This is such a good look," Karen clapped excitedly.

"Thank you for doing this, Janis," Cady added. "I'm really happy with how it turned out."

Janis felt her cheeks flush warm. Four gorgeous women were complimenting her, how could she not? But still, as she was led to the mirror to see the final look for herself, she could hear her heart thudding loudly in her chest.

Herself in pink. That hadn't happened since before everything in middle school went down.

The mirror was flipped to face her and Janis gasped.

She looked terrible. There was just so, so much pink and it was absolutely everywhere. The make-up was thick and closer resembled a clown than a teenage girl. Hell, the body paint Karen had been using were for drawing literal tiny hearts under her eyes. She looked like a 5-year-old girl's birthday party had thrown up all over her.

"Fuck you all," Janis growled, pushing the mirror back, grabbing her hoodie and other clothes, and storming towards the exit. "Ugh, I knew you'd do this to me, but I went along with it anyway! Hope the Insta likes are worth knowing that you are all still scum-sucking life ruiners!"

She slammed Regina's front door behind her, exiting out the front gate and leaning against the fence. She shot Damien a text to come and pick her up. He had his Grandma's birthday today, so he hadn't come to the hangout at Regina's, but she knew he had her back and would be willing to leave early for her. Hell, maybe they could even make it back in time for the end of the birthday. Janis wouldn't mind saying hi to his Gam Gam.

Though not like this. Not covered in pink garbage. Finger's crossed that Damien had some sort of make up wipes or something like that in the back of his parent's car.

She put her hoodie back on, hood up, covering all of the outfit thanks to just how short the skirt was, and obscuring most of the pink on her face in shadow.

"Hey!" someone snapped, just on the verge of yelling.

Janis looked up from her phone. It was Regina, standing just outside her front gate. And she didn't look impressed. Arms crossed. A perfectly plucked eyebrow raised. Grimace plastered onto her face. Narrowed eyes glaring.

Janis matched her grimace. What could Regina possibly want?

Notes:

This was written for Whumpuary 2026 for the day 13 prompt "Hold still".

I was initially planning on having this fic be a really long one-shot, but I have 4 more fics I need to get out in 1ish day in order to finish the wumpuary writing challenge in time, so I had to just post this and split the fic into multiple chapters. I am thinking this will end up being 2-3 chapters (though last time I thought that with my Mean Girls fanfics, it ended up 5 chapters and counting, so who knows haha).
