Work Text:

Mixcoatl was bored, so she decided to wander around theFatui Design Bureau. As she did, she heard a voice and decided to investigate.

“When Zandik shows his ugly mug again, I need the infirmary to be guarded by some of our top soldiers until he is dealt with. I don’t know exactly whats going to happen, but I have received information that leads me to believe there will be some patients needed to be transported there.” Isabella commanded a group of soldiers.

The group didn’t move right away, so Isabella gritted out a quick “Dismissed” and turned to go back to her quarters. As she did, the Harbinger caught sight of Mixcoatl leaning against one of the walls and jumped.

“Didn’t mean to startle you,” Mixcoatl apologized and pushed herself off the wall. Walking closer to  the girl, the dragon studied her. “For someone so young, you command like a general.”

Still in shock, it took Isabella a moment to regain her composure and stood straighter. “I’m just a scientist, not a general, ma’am.”

Isabella waited for a response, and when she didn’t she decided to fill the silence herself. “My current projects are to undermine Celestia without waking It up.” That was the only explanation Isabella could give without spilling too much information, hopefully satiating the other’s curiosity.

Mixcoatl continued to stay silent, only offering a hum of contemplation. She knew damn well what happens to scholars who try to mess with Celestia’s rule. Somehow, though, Mixcoatl had faith in this girl. “How ambitious… I have something you might enjoy.”

Digging around in her pocket, Mixcoatl brought out a crystal and offered it to Isabella. At her look of confusion, the dragon started to explain. “Dragons of old had a technique of preserving power to use later. The name cannot be translated into any modern tongue, but I’ve been testing it out and it still works.”

As Isabella examined the crystal, Mixcoatl continued. “If you observe this crystal enough, you can sense my Pyro in it. You can do the same with whatever element you have, you just have to find a crystal that is empty or resonates with the element you’re putting into it.”

Isabella did feel the Pyro energy radiating from the crystal, and as Mixcoatl talked, she tried to pull some of the energy out.

The crystal retaliated and burned Isabella’s hand, dropping it.

Mixcoatl chuckled and picked the crystal back up. “There are wards you can put on the crystal to prevent anyone from using it.” She explained. “If you would like, I can find a crystal for you and I can teach you the technique.”

Isabella’s mind was racing with possibilities on how she could utilize this power. When Mixcoatl offered to teach her, Isabella accepted immediately.

“Meet me by the ocean, girl. I will tell you anything you want to know,” Mixcoatl said and walked off.

Notes:

Yes, the lost technique is inspired by Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle.
