Fake It ‘til You Make It

Summary:

"Seriously man, why are you here?"

Come on man you can't screw this up.

"Um," He put his hand on top of Simon's. "We are… partners. More than just acting."

Or Simon/Trevor fake dating au cus that’s basically what happened in cannon

Notes:

Unrelated but I feel like Simon would listen to AJR

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Simon fidgeted in the car. Trevor put a supportive hand on his shoulder.

"What if they ask how I know you, I mean I've only known you for a week?"

"Well then we'll just 'yes, and' it, you know?"

Simon let out a breath. "Yeah, okay we got this."

Absolutely, can't go back to jail now. Trevor thought. He let his gaze linger on Simon.

They could do this.

***
Trevor stayed at Simon's shoulder for most of the party. The family and friends were lovely and seemed perfectly ordinary. Sure there was a little apprehension about acting being a "real job" but it was something Trevor knew how to handle. Say enough Shakespeare quotes and you can (mostly) redirect the conversation.

***
Trevor sat down next to Simon at a table with his mom and brother.

The tension was building between them was tipping over the edge with Eric bringing up American Horror Story.

Trevor cleared his throat. "If I may—"

"Seriously man, why are you here?"

Come on man you can't screw this up.

"Um," He put his hand on top of Simon's. "We are… partners. More than just acting."

Eric sputtered, caught off guard by the confession. Simon shot him a surprised but appreciative look. It made something in his stomach flutter, like stage fright in a warm and fluffy way.

"Simon you never told me you had a boyfriend!" His mom said excitedly.

The conversation diverged from that point. Simon didn't move his hand, giving a small squeeze as a 'thank you.'

***
The party had mostly settled down when Simon brought out his present. It was nice, Trevor thought. Eric had different ideas, starting the argument.

"We always let him get away with it, don't we?"

Trevor put a hand on his friend's shoulder, who was breathing hard. He could see a glint of purple light in his eye.

The spiderweb of cracks on the wall.

This man is dangerous the defense agent had said.

But all Trevor say was a friend and fellow actor who needed him. The flicker should have scared him it drove him closer.

Everything boiled over when Simon hit the table only for it to explode outwards. Trevor closed his eyes but held on.

***

The car ride was quiet after that.

"We don't have to talk about it, if you don't want to."

Simon parked on a hill and let out a sigh. "If this gets out I'll never work in Hollywood again."

"Why?"

"The new Doorman clause, no super-powered individuals are supposed to work."

"Hey, you are a wonderful actor and even kinder friend and if people can't see that than that's their loss."

"Thanks Trevor. By the way that was a pretty good save back there at the party."

Trevor laughed. "Sometimes when acting you just have to go with the flow."

He cleared his throat. "One moment I have to pee."

Stepping out of the car and into the bushes he pulled out the recorder.

This party had shown him two things.

One, he couldn't do this to Simon. He never asked for these powers or those laws. While the government might see him as some "unstable criminal" Trevor just saw him as a fellow thespian trying his best.

Two, he had a crush. God he felt too old for this. Trevor tossed the chipped SD card from the device into the bushes. Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind. God, why'd he have to meet him like this, under these circumstances?

Trevor drew a breath. Things were never easy in the greatest love stories. Orpheus and Eurities, Romeo and Julet (granted, though those were technically tragedys, he thought to himslf). No matter what he was going to try.

Because if he had to choose between Simon's freedom and his own, he'd choose Simon in a heartbeat.

Simon got out of the car, clearly emotional.

"What is it, is something wrong?"

"We got it, we got the call-back for Wonder Man."

Oh fate that funny fickle thing.

Notes:

Hello thank you for reading! The quote about Cupid was from Shakespeeres Midsummer Night's Dream. The last line was not Shakespeare just something I made up that I thought sounded nice. Have not finished Wonderman yet but Trevor/Simon is gnawing on my brain right now. It literally feels like a DabiHawks fic I've read (Ship of Christmas past are coming back to haunt me fr). Kudos and comments appreciated let me know what you think

Discussion question:

What musicals do you think Simon and Trevor would enjoy?

(My answer is something rotten but also phantom of the opera)
