[Podfic] One of those days

Summary:

(written by Lethotep)

Papyrus has a bad day.

Notes:

Podfic length: 14 minutes, or 15 minutes with intro/outro music

Reader's note re: the unhealthy coping mechanisms tag:

it involves a bit of self-harm by causing himself pain with old injuries, but not creating new ones, and it doesn't dwell on depicting it. I didn't add a tag about it to the recording, so I wanted to call attention to it here!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Including the intro/outro music:

Podfic only:

(Both versions hosted on Archive.org here!)

Notes:

Thanks for listening!

I had to record and upload these first two short fics of this series together, in part because of the repeating sentiment of "He wouldn't give up!" / "He wouldn't give up." / "He would never give up."

It's a running theme through the series that gets challenged at times, but it's especially clear in this pair of fics, and I wanted to emphasize it. I love how this story is already reframing the sentiment, showing how the expression of stubborn positivity from each of the sections of the first fic is something foundational for Papyrus building himself back up from the distress of things he's trying not to think about. The ambiguity tag is still ominously hovering with its lack of explanation for it all, but hey - we'll get there.

Fun with the recording choices: usually, I try to either take shallow breaths, or take deep breaths that I then trim from the audio. But with this fic, in the part where Papyrus regathers himself enough to start controlling his breathing, I thought it'd add something for me to include deliberate breaths around the lines. I also made a point of differentiating the lines describing those breaths as though they were a guided breathing exercise he was repeating to himself, in between the rawer determined thoughts he was rebuilding himself on.

Intro/outro music clips are from A New MIssion by John Whitehouse, as I found some of the lines in the first verse and second verse relevant to Papyrus's bad day in this fic. I had fun with trimming the audio so it faded out and faded in certain lines. =)
