Chapter Text
“Are you sure your mom won't notice?” Uraraka said, glancing at her friend in concern. They were in the train heading to the boarding school Uraraka had been accepted into: Yuuei, known to be one of the most prestigious schools that offer the Hero course.
Midoriya would have had no trouble getting into that school - if only he had a quirk and especially if he wasn’t an Omega. Although this didn’t stop him from going. He had successfully convinced his best friend that he could pull this off and despite that, he claims that even without her support he would still do it anyway, which left her no choice but to help him. They planned on sneaking Midoriya in under the name of a guy called Yamashita Daiki, the boy who lived next door from Midoriya. Daiki and his family had recently moved country, even though he had been accepted into Yuuei.
He figured that since they left in such short notice they wouldn’t have informed the school about it. He figures that he could prove to everyone that even an Omega can become a hero. Therefore he plans to outperform the Betas, and maybe even the Alphas, in tests and practicals that are set. The tests should be as easy as pie, the only problem being the physical side to things and because he is an Omega, means that he is a tiny bit fragile. He didn’t think so though. He worked hard to be strong, he even went out of his way to buy weights to lift over the summer break.
He had ‘borrowed’ all the mail from Yuuei from his neighbor's mailbox and managed to find a uniform token and Yamashita’s timetable. He went to exchange his token for a uniform in the city’s tailors where he was measured and given the a uniform that fit him perfectly. He isn’t in any of Uraraka’s classes, but he knows from the timetable that he is only going to be in classes exclusively for Betas, which is a relief because an Alpha too close can easily notice his scent.
He is certain that the Alphas and Beta classes won’t mix, not because they would distract each other or anything like that, but because the hero course is compulsory for every Alpha. They are considered to be more than capable of becoming a hero.
Every since anyone could ever remember, a person is either born as an Alpha, Beta or an Omega.
This then determines the power of their quirk, for example an Alpha would harbour a Quirk that can be of a Hero’s use, whereas a Beta would only have a Quirk that could only help them with specialist jobs or daily tasks. But Quirks weren't existent up until the the past few decades. Formerly, doctors looked at a person’s anatomy to decide which of the three they were, but recently, more and more doctors have looked at the potential of their quirk to decide if they were Alpha, Beta or Omega. The complete damn opposite to what they're supposed to do.
However 9/10 they are correct, so it didn't really matter if one quirkless ‘Omega’ turns out to be a telekinetic Beta, and most of the time parents don’t even ask for the doctor's judgement and just figure it out for themselves. Although when checking what organs and glands are present in a person is a big indicator whether someone is Alpha, Beta or Omega.
Midoriya has it all mapped out in his clever little head. Attend classes, ace tests, become a hero and prove the people who thought otherwise, wrong. It sounds naïve, it is, but he is convinced that it will work.
Even though he is Quirkless, he has one trick up his sleeve: mind reading - well, pretend mind reading. All he needs to do is to trick people into thinking one thing and say it out loud before they think of something else. One example of this is mentioning something yellow and something curvy in a sentence and then asking for the first fruit that comes into their head. Banana. Right?
“No of course she won't notice,” Midoriya laughs, waving a hand in the air. “As far as she knows, I'm on the train to Bridgewater.” He was supposed to go to the Omega boarding school the opposite direction to where Yuuei is. A school where they pamper you and teach you all about the nitty gritties of being an Omega. It made Midoriya queasy just thinking about thinking about losing his virginity, never mind having an entire semester based around it.
“Yeah, but won't she check up on you. I mean you're an Omega after all...so now and then, won’t you be…” Uraraka pauses, lowering her voice, “y’know, wanting attention?” She cringes right after she says that, her face glowing red. They both hated talking about it, it was too private and personal to share a conversation about.
“What? No. Besides I've got emergency suppressants,” Midoriya says in a matter of fact tone. Suppressants is a method of, hence the name, suppressing the pheromones that are produced. The only down side to them is that if an Omega takes them to prevent a heat, it causes major problems for their body and a heavy relapse would happen after a couple of days.
“Yeah but there are Alphas there and you know well that those suppressants aren't good for you,” Uraraka sighs, covering her face with her palms. “This is a bad idea after all!!”
“It's not! I promise. When my heat does come I'll just be ill for a week,” Midoriya counters, slouching back into his seat. “We talked about this.”
Uraraka then keeps her mouth shut about her doubts concerning their ‘foolproof’ plan, only for second though.
“But, it's so obvious that you're an Omega!” Uraraka whines, worried for the boy in front of her. He looks so fragile and small, Uraraka finds it difficult to imagine anyone actually believing that he was Beta. Even though he made an effort to get body muscle he still looks the tiniest bit squishy, as if one little touch could break him.
“It's only obvious when you know!” Midoriya frowned, Uraraka is beginning to get him panicky on the eleventh hour and he didn't want to be backing out now. “Just wake me up when we're there.” He mumbles, choosing to nap his nervousness away.
“You nap so much, for a ‘Beta’” Uraraka says, earning a middle finger from the boy. He knows won't be able to avoid his Omega traits, so he'd have to make up an excuse for going to bed an hour or two earlier than most people and needing a bit to comfort and touch now and again.
“I'm sleepy, yeah?”

Each and every person has their own individual accommodation, which is a small unit of a kitchen bedroom and a shower room. He didn't bring much things, mostly clothes and computer gadgets, but he has one box filled with teddies he brought from his house.
It wasn't like he wanted to bring them, he felt like just had to bring them. The boy read online that Omegas find ease in cute things because they are hardwired to have strong maternal instincts therefore they would relate the stuffed toys to what they ultimately want in life, babies. Midoriya doesn't deny that he adores the idea of having children sometime in the future. But in all honesty he just wanted an excuse to bring them.
“Okay, Daiki, don’t be letting just anyone in here,” Uraraka warns, snickering at the fake name as she headed out of Midoriya’s dorm. They had just finished unpacking and now she is going to go to the opening ceremony, Midoriya isn't allowed to go as there are Alphas there and if any were to spot the Omega there would be trouble.
“I won’t... Come by here for dinner later?” Midoriya suggests, looking at Uraraka with hopeful eyes. He just didn’t want to be alone in this new space, every room in the dorm made him feel uncomfortable, thinking that he’s just a little homesick. “And maybe stay ‘til I fall asleep?” He adds, giving her a little pout.
Uraraka sighs, she already knew that Midoriya would be on edge until he gets a good feel around the entirety of the campus. Being surrounded by new people and new places would make any Omega uneasy.
“I’ll be here,” she says with a comforting smile.
The majority of the students in Yuuei are Betas, there are only 60 people in the hero course meaning there are only 2 classes going on at one time. They have their own dormitory and separate buildings for their studies and hero training. They even have their own uniform, which isn't that different from the Beta’s uniform the only differences are that their ties are black instead of red and that they have a cool badge on. This made Alphas look ten times cooler than they already looked, as they are already visually larger and fitter than most people.
Betas are just a notch smaller than the Alphas. Their pheromones have little to no effect on Alphas, this being the reason as to why they are allowed to share the same school. However, Omegas, in heat or not, give off an intoxicating scent which arouse Alphas and for that reason they are to attend a specialist school, focusing on discipline and child care. What's with this system? And considering the shitty farts running this broken theory that Omegas are just a way of guaranteeing a child and should be taught and treated as such, there is no sign of change happening anytime soon.
Midoriya was an early bloomer, he had his first heat when he was only 14 years old, one of the youngest ages to start because heat cycles usually start sometime around the Omega’s 18th. Also, his heat duration is shorter than normal, instead of it lasting seven days, it only lasts for three; meaning that he isn’t as fertile as others. This only gives him 1/10 chances of actually getting pregnant if he tries for a child.
When he found out he wasn’t in tie with the norm of an Omega, he has always felt like he wasn’t going to fulfill his role of giving a child to the person he ends up with. Convinced that because he can't guarantee little bundles of joy, there won't be an Alpha willing to choose him. The feeling of not being good enough has always brought him down. And what really made him feel like he had nothing to offer to the world was the fact that he didn’t even have a quirk to make up for it.
Something happened in the beginning of his last year of middle school. He was shown a viral video of the most successful hero saving ten people at one time. And that’s when he realised that instead of sitting on his Omega ass all day and sulking about babies, he should do something useful. Like be a hero.
He became fanatic about the star hero, All Might. Sticking posters all around his bedroom, making his mom buy action figures and books about the symbol of peace. He soon began to write about All Might, recording every single one of his tricks and moves. It wasn't until after he had absolutely nothing else to write about does he begin to write about almost all of the other heroes All Might works with. By the time he finishes his 13th book the idea of becoming a hero is embedded into his brain.

Proper school starts the following Monday. This gave Midoriya two days to have a good wander around the campus and while doing so he had met the most gifted of people. Every person around him has an amazing Quirk, one that really amazed him was the quirk his neighbour has, she can make things 10% smaller by just the touch of a fingertip!
Almost all the people he had introduced himself to asked for him to show them his Quirk, which meant he had to do the mindreading trick, he learnt from wikihow, over twenty times. Every person he did it to was pretty persuaded that he actually had a quirk because every reading he did were correct. Saying his name was Yamashita Daiko took some getting used to, the first time he had left his dorm he had his name written on the palm of his hand for him to remind himself not to say Midoriya Izuku.
Midoriya didn’t think his neighbour had much friends, almost no one asked why Daiko suddenly looked like a 12 year old with green hair. However it was a relief because everyone just treats him like any other Beta, they are genuinely nice to him and wholeheartedly recognise him as a friend. Because of this he had been feeling a lot more calm and less panicky than he did a few days ago.
The Beta classes he takes are more academically orientated than Uraraka’s, the only lesson where he didn’t have to sit behind some books and listen to a teacher for an hour are his food lessons. Lesson after lesson he realises, even as a Beta, it would still be difficult for him to prove that he is worthy enough to become a hero. When he studied his hardest in tests and quizzes there would always be someone there better than him. Other people were always at an advantage when it came to certain activities in lesson, he always feels short whenever someone uses their quirk to finish tasks he'd need an entire lesson to finish. And when he finds out his rate of progress was the lowest in his classes, he feels nothing but frustrated. Uraraka is the only person keeping him going at this point, giving him encouragement and support whenever he feels like running back home to his mom. Omegas can't go without someone praising them or at least reassuring them, like their job was to please and impress anyone else but themselves.

It's now 3 weeks into the school year, Modoriya made it a habit to stay in the Beta cafeteria for all of his lunch breaks where he was sure not to bump into an Alpha.
He knows one of his childhood friends applied for this school, but he hasn't spotted the spiky haired Alpha around the campus. His name is Bakugo Katsuki and if Midoriya could describe him in one word it would be: powerful.
They used to be really good friends when they were little, they played together and were inseparable. But when Bakugo developed his quirk, he began to be more distant and when Midoriya showed to have no quirk, their parents stopped them from meeting. Midoriya was sure that he would be the only person the school who can recognise him and ultimately, get him kicked out.
“Now, don’t think this project isn’t important, because it is,” the teacher stretches out his elastic arms, handing out resource sheets to everyone in the class. Their mini project is to write a 5 page children’s story, it can be about anything they wanted, but it had to be engaging and easy to read. “I’ve paired you up.”
Midoriya sighs, he isn’t really close to anybody in his English class. But from the top of the sheet been given he finds that he’s been partnered up with Tododroki Shouto.
What an honor, he thinks. Todokori Shouto was the son of the second most powerful Hero in Japan, Endeavour. Although almost one hundred percent of the time he is outshines by All Might, he is one heck of a hero. As his Quirk, Hell Flame, is extremely powerful in battle, second to none! Except All Might that is.
He then remembers the first time he had met him, he was practically shaking when they first spoke. Midoriya kept blurting out random sentences about what the teacher told them to brainstorm about, trying hard to sound as clever as possible. Todoroki responded a little too passively to whatever he said, and that day Midoriya went into a slump. He didn't know why, but he felt so disheartened that Todoroki didn't sound as interested as he hoped.
He glances around the room, looking for his red and white hair.
Todoroki is, hands down, the most handsome in his class, and he isn’t vain about it either. Todoroki is a whole head taller than the Omega, with two toned hair, one side being a deep red and the other being as white as snow. With beautifully stoic eyes of the darkest black and the richest green, anyone under his gaze would simply melt. He always wears a straight face, but it didn’t bring his looks down one bit, it actually makes him look expensive like you can't afford to see him smile.
But there was a misunderstanding on Todoroki’s part. He thinks that the scar that hung over his left eye made people uncomfortable. And how Midoriya acted toward him on their first day of school reminded him of this, as he was fidgety and jumpy, stumbling over his words whenever spoke directly to him. People who don’t know him personally find it difficult to approach him, not because of the reason Todoroki thinks it to be, but because most people are discouraged because of his dad’s success.
Midoriya swivels in his seat, looking over people's head to spot him in his seat at the back of the classroom, wanting to see the expression on his face. When he sees an empty chair, his small smile drops and he flops back into his place. Midoriya always feels so giddy when he has this one class with him and even if Todoroki doesn’t say much, he has an aura about him; the kind that’s intimidating to most, but somewhat appealing to Midoriya.
The bell then rings and the teacher dismisses the students. Midoriya is about to step out of the classroom, but he hears the teacher call his name - well fake name.
“Yamashita,” the teacher gestures him over to the front desk. “I know it's a big ask but can you take these research papers to Todoroki. Since he's your partner and all.”
“Uh, I would, but I don't know where he lives,” he admits, tilting his head to the side. His face heating up at the thought of visiting Todoroki.
“Oh. I've got it here,” he says, turning to his monitor, clicking the mouse a few times. “He lives in the second dorm building, floor 6 room 9.
He accepts the request and spends the last two lessons on the day thinking about how to go about giving him the papers. It would be nice have a talk about what they should do for the project, but he feels like he would be bothering him if he did, there would've been a reason as to why he wasn't in his classes.
“Maybe he’s ill,” he mumbles, pacing around the empty elevator. “Maybe I should just slot it under the door, or maybe give it to the person next door if he isn't in…” Midoriya’s heart races as the floor number counts up to the sixth. “Calm down. It's only the kid of the 2nd most amazing hero in the entire of Japan,” he squealed. “Maybe I can get an autograph.”
The elevator tings and the doors slide open. It took a moment or two until Midoriya steps out, meekly walking along the hallway. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
“Nine,” Midoriya takes a deep breath, “Okay, okay, okay. It's only the son of endeavour. Calm down.” He manages lift a balled hand to the door, knuckles barely touching the surface.
He knocks once. Twice. Three times.
No answer.
He can feel his cheeks burning, thinking back at how worked up he was just before hand.
“Like hell I was going to get an autograph.” Midoriya pouted, stuffing the papers into his backpack, feeling kind of defeated.
He didn't expect the door to swing open as he did so.
He leaps out of his skin at the sound of the door lightly banging on to the wall of the small entrance room. He then forced himself to look up, finding the Beta, staring down at him, fresh from the shower. With an arm leaning against a door frame, he gives his hair a quick rub-bown before chucking the towel to the side.
He looks run down and sickly.
“What's up,” the male grunts, his voice rough and nasally.
He sounds irritated.
Midoriya’s chest tightens, why was he here again?
“Mr Rubber, told me to bring these to y-you,” he says, his voice small and quiet. He feels like an ant under his stare, his knees suddenly weak and wobbly. He pulls out the bunched up paper from his bag, holding it out for the other to take.
“Thanks,” he says, sniffling as he grabs hold of the crumpled pieces of paper.
Midoriya doesn’t know what to do. He’s delivered the documents, and now he is just awkwardly standing in front of Todoroki’s door. This isn't how he imagined their conversation was going to pan out. It was so short and brief. He wants to say more, but he can’t bring himself to say anything else.
Todoroki waits a good minute in case the little boy wanted to say anything else and when he didn’t he started to retreat back into his room, closing the door behind him. However instead of hearing the usual click of the door closing, he hears a soft thud followed by a yelp.
“Oh shit,” Todoroki turns to look back at the door, breath hitching as he sees little fingers trapped in the door. He quickly pulls the door open, sliding Midoriya’s small hand into his. “Are you okay?!” he exclaimed, letting go of the papers to tend to the hurt boy. “C’mere.”
Midoriya whimpers, eyes shut tight as he tries to shake of the pain. His fingers throbbed, he’s forgotten how painful getting hurt feels. Todoroki leads the boy to his kitchen, sitting him down on one of his two dining chairs and he sits himself on the other, parallel to the boy. Midoriya didn't mean to stop the door from closing, he didn’t mean to get his fingers squished either, he just wanted to stay around him for longer.
Midoriya peels his eyes open when the taller stretches out one finger, softly rubbing it, gently massaging the pain away. His now wide eyes flicker to and from their tangled fingers and Todoroki’s handsome face, his entire body growing warm and tingly. Midoriya’s eyelids slowly become heavy and he finds himself mindlessly staring into the other’s eyes. He relaxes the more Todoroki touches, frenzied thoughts pull away from his head as every little rub sends little sparks along his body.
“Does it still hurt?” Todoroki’s asks with a raspy voice and Midoriya nods his head without much thought. “Let me just -”
Todoroki presses his lips along the tips of Midoriya’s purpling fingers, causing a thin icy glaze to wrap around them. Midoriya’s fingers turn numb, it takes him a second or two to get his head around what just happened, snapping back to his usual self.
He quickly withdraws his cold hand, holding it to his chest, his head turning into a tomato.
“What was th-that?!” Midoriya squeaks, surprising Todoroki with his loud voice.
“It helps,” Todoroki reasons, standing up to riffle through a medicine cabinet. “Don't misunderstand,” Midoriya assumes he’s looking for bandages but ends up taking out a pack of paracetamol. He pops two out and gulps them down with bottled water from the fridge. “What else did you want to speak to me about?”
What else did Midoriya want to speak about?
“I ju-just wanted your phone number.” He stutters out, fumbling his phone from his pocket with his good hand. He unlocks it and passes it to Todoroki who types in his phone number and name into the Contact list without question.
“Here, you should get going,” he coughs out. He is in real need of a good rest, Todoroki wasn't able to get a good nap before hand because of his blocked nose and itchy throat.
Midoriya is then shown to the front door. Kind of feeling dejected at how eager Todoroki was about getting rid of him.
“Goodbye.” He chokes out, trying not to look so sad. Why am I upset?, he thinks. Besides he should be happy he at least got his number, then he could call him about the assignment.
“Bye,” Todoroki says back, watching the boy walk well away from the door before closing it.
He sluggishly treks back into his unlit room, falling automatically onto his bed, not even bothering to get underneath a blanket. Todoroki hopes to just fall straight to sleep but is kept awake, feeling terrible about hurting that boy. When he saw how pained his pretty face looked, he felt an urge to wipe his little frown away and put smile in its place. He then feels a sense of regret of not having a good look at the little stars speckled across his cheeks or the deep green of his eyes. He falls asleep, mentally piecing together the lovely details he remembers.
Likewise Midoriya can't stop thinking about what happened. He couldn't stop thinking about it when he walked home, when he ate his dinner or when he watched TV. He can't stop thinking about it as he lies in his bed, remembering the thrill he got from every little touch. Thinking about how it shouldn't be messing his head up like it did.
“It felt so good.” He whispers into the dark, scooping a stuffed toy into his arms. He knows he’s blushing, he can feel his cheeks burning. He buries his face into his pillow, groaning into it after realising that that was the most he had heard Todoroki speak.
Before he falls asleep he musters up the courage to send him a short message.
‘Thank you for today.’

It is a Saturday the next day and Midoriya goes about his usual routine. Everything he did is twice as difficult with a battered hand, especially that it was his writing hand he crushed the previous day. Does he regret it. Yes he did. He couldn’t do anything properly, it took him an hour to eat his breakfast, his handwriting is a mess and he can't even tie his shoelaces properly. What made it worse was since he woke up he had an itching feeling in his head, like he’s forgotten to do something he should of.
“You should call him,” his friend Iida suggest, bringing out the burgers he bought for the two of them. They were having lunch at Iida’s home, discussing why his fingers were a bit broken. “I'm sure he doesn't expect you to do all the work.”
“Yeah, but he seemed really sick yesterday…” he mumbles, struggling to open a packet of ketchup.
“Did he even apologise for hurting you?” he frowns, helping his injured friend.
“I told you, he didn't do it on purpose!” Midoriya defends, snatching the ketchup back when Iida had opened it.
“So he didn't?” Iida gasps, looking at Midoriya’s swollen fingers. “I'll call him. Gimme your phone.” He ninja'd Midoriya's phone from his side of the table, quickly typing in his pin code of 4444. “Oh. He's texted you.”
Midoriya perked up in his seat, leaning over to pull the phone from his grip. He holds it up close to his face, reading each word of the sentence he had been sent one by one.
‘Lets meet up’ it says.
His heart leaps from his chest. Hands shaking from excitement as he replies to the message. Unable to stop himself from smiling as he did so.
‘Okay, when? x’
He unmutes his phone, and settles it back on the table, ready to accept any time or place Todoroki suggests. He's probably found out that they were partnered up for the story project.
“So, are you guys a going to meet up?” Iida prys, lifting an eyebrow at the grin across Midoriya's face.
“I don't know yet,” he says in a whiny voice. Doubtful thoughts then fill his mind, worried that he replied too late or he has changed his mind in the time he didn't reply. “I wish we do, cause I don't know what to do for that project.”
“Well, if he pricks out on you, I can help,” Iida encourages, taking the first bite of his cheeseburger.
“Like you'd help,” Midoriya teases. “It's for kids.”
“I’m good with kids!!” He argues, scrunching his nose.
“I didn't say you wasn't.” He laughs at how annoyed Iida becomes, laughing even more when he sees a piece of burger wedged between his front teeth. This carries on for a short while with Midoriya bringing up an incident last week involving dental floss and his humanities teacher’s kid.
“That kid had so many cavities though!” Iida yells, pulling a disgusted face.
“Didn't mean you had to make her cry!”
As he was about to burst into another fit of laughter, his phone pings. Twice.
Midoriya quickly grabs his phone, trying to act cool, pretending that he wasn't squealing inside.
‘Today at 7’
‘My place?’
He taps in a quick reply:
‘See you then xx’
And turns to Iida, grabbing his arm as if his life depended on it.
“We have to kill time” he orders, taking in a mouthful of his Chicken Mayo burger.
