Work Text:

Phrolova had felt homeless for a long time, yes, she always had a place where she could stay at, but that was it, she had never had a “Home” The flat she once shared with Scar and Cristoforo felt more like an office to her, never feeling too at ease even if  she tried to. She knew it wasn’t her flatmates’ fault. The little office she had at work, only for her, that was not a home neither, that was something with four walls, a desk and a chair, The little apartment she finally rented once she got the promotion, yes, it was hers, it had her favourite things, her violin, her bed, the walls were painted to her liking and the neighbourhood wasn’t too noisy, it was peaceful, yet again, Phrolova didn’t know if she would call it a Home.

If she was honest, did she even know what a home was? she had little to no real idea of what it was, What made a place one’s home?, she simply knew she hadn’t found it yet. She wasn’t desperate about it, but sometimes she would prefer to not feel like a foreigner inside her own house. She would shake the feeling off and tell herself that was all she had, she wouldn’t even dream about having something to call a home.

...

“Mum! Mommy is trying to kill me!” A seven year old girl runs towards her, almost falling into her arms, seemingly escaping a cruel destiny “What are you saying darling?” suddenly Shorekeeper comes through the door “Melody! Phro, please tell her something, I’m not running around the house with a fork and a plate” Phro softly looked at their daughter “What? you’re scared of a vegetable now princess?” The kid looked at her mother with fear in her eyes “mum, that’s not a vegetable, that’s something evil and mommy is trying to make me eat it, what if I die?” gosh, why was this girl so dramatic? Phrolova thought “ A broccoli won’t hurt you Melody, let’s do something, if you finish the plate we’ll go to the park”

The kid’s eyes started shining “Really? promise it” Shorekeeper watched the scene in defeat “We promise, right mommy?” she sighed but complied “Yes, we will go, but only if you finish everything” the little girl went to the kitchen again, Shorekeeper sat next to her wife “When did she become such a picky eater?” Phrolova laughed “May I remind you that you were too when we first met?” “Hey, you’re supposed to side with me in this one, not with her!” Shorekeeper pouted. Before she could answer, Melody was already at the door with her little blue and red jacket. “Mom! I finished, can we go now?” she asked excitedly “ Wait for a bit mommy and I have to get ready as well” Phrolova answered as they got up from the sofa.

She wasn’t sure if that was the definition of a Home, but it was her definition, she was finally home, after all these years, she found a little apartment she could call a “Home” and it was only because she shared it with the two things she cherished most in her life now.
