Chapter Text
`` CHAPTER 1 `` . . Backstory.
Cosmo was working at his table. It's been a week since he had revived Sprout. He thought back on how he got here.
~~~
His best friend, the one that baked with him, owned a bakery with him, and had spent many years of friendship, had died, an accident no one had seen coming. Not even Cosmo himself. The one who had been with him the longest. Cosmo cried every day since his death.
Cosmo couldn't take the grief of his friend. It felt like he was dying inside. So, what did Cosmo, the baker of the town do? Revive sprout with science. Studying in libraries, distancing himself from friends, and moving into an abandoned manor.
After a while, Cosmo had gone through 2 years of work trying to revive sprout. He had spent 2 years of non-stop studying of science and health to revive someone that was just his friend. Truth is, it was his only ‘ friend ‘ now, They had probably all forgotten about him. Of course. He didn't care if he had any friends.
Well.. Except for Boxten, the mailman who had come by every day to chat with Cosmo before going off, they used to be close, Cosmo used to teach him how to bake. Cosmo forgot about baking, He forgot how to do it, But if sprout was alive
Whatever. The only thing that's important right now is Sprout. Sprout, Oh how dearly Cosmo had missed him. And he wasn't even in love with him..
…
Maybe he was.
But anyways, Love wasn't important! Sprout was! And his love for Sprout..
But after 2 years, Cosmo had finally cracked it. Maybe he was a bit insane and crazy.. But that didn't matter! He'd finally have Sprout back! After 2 years!
He was so goddamn happy. So fucking happy that he dreamed of sprout all night. Finally being in his arms again.
Not like he didn't already, Anyways. He always dreamed of sprout, past memories, future memories.
He missed Sprout so much.
Sprout. My dear.
~~~
It was raining hard outside. Perfect. He'd need lightning to revive Sprout anyway.
Cosmo grabbed Sprout's lifeless body, it was a bit smelly and moldy, he put it on a metal table, he had patched him up before when he stole him from the graveyard.
Cosmo giggled, staring at sprouts lifeless body, he cupped his face. “Oh my dear sprout.. It's been so long.. But I'll finally have you back..”
He leaned in, kissing him on the forehead, it's platonic. Obviously.
“Anyways!” Cosmo tilted up a machine that he's been working on, positioning it to point at sprout. Flashes of light were coming through the dusty windows, making Cosmo look crazy.
Though he already WAS crazy, he was giggling hysterically. Cosmo put on his gloves and goggles, it was going to be VERY bright. He came back to the machine. Cosmo powered the machine on, flipping switches first, then pulling down a lever. Cosmo had to wait until lightning struck down on a lightning rod that was on the building that was connected to the machinery that was going to revive Sprout.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning hit the lightning rod, the energy of it traveled down to the many wires of the machine, then into powering it up and sending the strike of lightning onto Sprout's body, shocking and making the strawberries body twitch and jitter.
Cosmo cackled, the flashing lights of lightning from the machine and from outside. Suddenly everything was still.
Cosmo coughed from laughing too much. “Damn it- I should stop doing that.” Cosmo looked up, staring at sprouts lifeless body, it was a bit smokey.
“Sprout..? Are you..alive?” Cosmo came over, touching Sprout's arm with his gloves. “Sprout.. please..” Cosmo started to tear up.
“No.. No.. Please-” Cosmo choked up. “I tried so- SO hard..” Cosmo shook his head. Sprout couldn't still be dead. He spent 2 years doing this. “FUCK!” Cosmo stumbled back, knocking over a nearby cart.
Cosmo just couldn't accept this, he couldn't He just couldn't-
“NO!” Cosmo ran back to his room, covered with papers and books of his research. “What did I do wrong!?” Cosmo clenched his fists.
“What did I- Did I do!?” Cosmo started breathing heavily, grabbing his papers and looking through them, he read them. He had got all of it right. He had made sure. “Fuck!- Fuck-! FUCK!” Cosmo shook his head, he clenched his teeth. He grabbed all his papers, ripping them up.
He moved around his room, knocking over and breaking things in a fit of rage. He had thrown his lamp against the wall, kicking his chairs and throwing it against his windows, breaking it and letting the rain pour in. And he had torn up his blankets, ripped off the old peeling wallpaper that was already there.
Cosmo screamed in pain, collapsing and getting on his knees, sobbing violently.
Cosmo tried to get up, trying to compose himself, but he just completely collapsed, curling up, sobbing violently.
He didn't know how long he was crying for.
~~~
“God..-” He sniffed, rubbing his red eyes.
“I.. I just.. don't know what to do anymore.” Cosmo sat up weakly, everything haz(E)y.
“...”
Cosmo stood up, rubbing his eyes, he went back over to his lab, stepping over broken glass from when he knocked over that cart.
He had forgotten how much he spent crying in his room, he had to get up to get Sprout before some wild animal broke in to eat Sprout or whatever.
He walked over to the metal table, expecting to see Sprout's lifeless body. But instead, he saw Sprout. Alive, He was sitting on the edge of the other side of the table. His back facing Cosmo.
“...” Cosmo's eyes widened, was he imagining this?
“Sprout?..” He must have been.
Cosmo came closer, putting his hand up, hesitating, like if he had touched Sprout, he would have faded away. Cosmo breathed in,
closing his eyes and putting a hand on Sprout.
“Grm..?” Sprout turned around, looking at Cosmo.
Cosmo opened his eyes, looking at Sprout.
“Spr-Sprout?!” Cosmo's eyes widened.
“Sprout!” He jumped at Sprout, hugging him suddenly. “Oh sprout! You're back! You're alive! You're really- Really alive!”
Cosmo teared up, squeezing sprout. Sprout on the other hand, Sprout was super confused, who was this random person hugging him?..
“Grh..” Sprout got a little mad. He wanted to be let go. Sprout grabbed Cosmos back, digging his claws into Cosmos lab coat, pricking cosmos skin.
Cosmo flinched back, it didn't hurt, but it was unusual.
“Sprout- What are you..-?” Cosmo raised an eyebrow.
“Grhh..-” Sprout furrowed his brows, staring at cosmo. Cosmo could notice that his body had changed, there were leaf like petals on the back of him, he had a spiky tail with a leaf tip. He also had messy and long green hair.
Sprout had claws, and sharp teeth.
“Sprout you-” Cosmo brought up a hand to touch Sprouts cheek, Sprout reacted with that with a growl, scratching cosmos hand.
Cosmo yelped, pulling his hand back. He held the cut as he bled. “Oh.” Cosmo looked back at Sprout.
“You've.. changed.” Cosmo said quietly.
Sprout growled, getting off the metal table and coming over to cosmo.
Cosmo's eyes widened, backing up, he knew that sprout was dangerous right now. He had to restrain him.
Sprout came closer as Cosmo backed up, Cosmo's eyes looked around the room in a panic, trying to find anything to restrain sprout.
Sprout lunged at Cosmo, Cosmo quickly dodged, bumping into a nearby shelf. Luck was apparently on his side, as he found rope on the shelf, he grabbed it heading over to sprout who was still on the ground from missing.
Cosmo grabbed sprouts arms, tying them up, also the same with his legs. Sprout trashed around and snarled, growling. And snapping at Sprout. Cosmo looked down at Sprout, starting to calm down, he sighed.
“What happened to you- my dear..?” Cosmo knelt down.
What cosmo didn't know was that there was a catch to reviving someone from the dead.
It was basically like reviving a beast, not your best friend. Cosmo stared at Sprout, looking at him.
“You're still Sprout.” Cosmo smiled, then grinned. “I'll fix you. I'll make you what you once were before.” He chuckled. Cupping sprouts cheek. He then kissed Sprout on the lips. Sprout bit Cosmo's lips right after he did that. But Cosmo didn't push Sprout away. No.
What type of friend would he be if pushed Sprout away? Sprout would just learn to like it anyway. Without the biting part.
