Work Text:

“Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, thank you for joining me.” Prowl gestured for the two of them to sit down on the cushions in front of the lamp that was doing double duty as light and heat in the cold of the spring night.

“You made it sound important.” Sideswipe sat first, pulling a handful of candies out of a pouch and offering one to Prowl and another to his twin after Sunstreaker joined him. “What’s up?”

Prowl looked from Sideswipe to Sunstreaker and sighed softly. “The scouts have reported that the members of the Decepticon Tribe that conquered Polyhex are getting ready to move. I promised Jazz that we would attempt a rescue this spring, but–”

“We can’t rescue anyone if they move.” Sunstreaker interrupted with a frwon. “Okay, how long do we have?”

Prowl gave him a small, humorless smile. “I had not said we were going now.”

Sideswipe shook his head. “You wouldn’t have asked for us specifically if you didn’t want us to try. So, how long do we have?”

“Bumblebee and Skids estimate no more than ten days.”

Both twins cycled their vents before Sideswipe spoke again. “That’s a tight timeline, Prowl.”

Sunstreaker glanced at his twin with a frown. “We can do it. Polyhex isn’t that far.”

“Didn’t say we couldn’t. Just that it’s tight.” Sideswipe shoved Sunstreaker gently before returning his focus to Prowl. “We’re gonna need a guide.”

“Of course,” Prowl replied. “Bumblebee or Skids will be at your disposal.”

“And probably a third fighter, just in case,” Sunstreaker added. “Because if we get caught, we’ll have to fight our way out.”

“I leave that to your descretion,” the chieftain nodded. “Take anyone but Jazz. He is already emotionally compromised as it is.”

“Oh yeah, definitely not Jazz. We’ll let you know in the morning.” Sideswipe nodded.

“If you could have supplies ready for us to leave in the afternoon, we’ll leave before sundown,” Sunstreaker continued.

“It will be done.” Prowl gave them a relieved smile. “Thank you Sideswipe, Sunstreaker.”

“For Jazz?” Sunstreaker glanced out the door toward the Polyhexian’s shelter. “Anything.”
