Chapter Text
♡ A terrible, swirling myriad of emotions flood Riddle’s mind when he finds out what you’ve done. Anger, regret, misery, betrayal, but above all else, heartbreak. By running off, he feels like you’ve taken his heart and cruelly torn it into two and carelessly poured his love from it on the floor, red and sticky.
♡ An underclassman of his was the one to reluctantly break the news to him. Riddle had been overcome with anxiety when you weren’t answering his texts or calls, and had reached out only to find that you’ve dropped out and ran away. Riddle grips the phone so hard that it would crack right there in his hands if he were any stronger.
♡ He has become quite good at controlling his outbursts since his overblot, but any restraint he has left after hearing the news of your departure is devoted to slamming down the phone on the ringer so nobody is able to hear him when he starts tearing his room apart. The sheets and blankets are ripped from the bed, the mirror cracked and breaking, the curtains torn from the rod. All the while it looks like all the blood in his body rushes to face while he screams in pure rage, which eventually simmers down to wails, to sobbing while he curls up on the floor.
♡ When Riddle eventually composes himself, he wastes no time washing his face, packing his bag, and informing whoever he is interned with that he will be taking a short sabbatical for “health” reasons. He rushes back to NRC as fast as he can, and starts questioning anyone and everyone he suspects might know where you’ve run off to. Ace, Deuce, the underclassman who broke the news to him. He contacts his former classmates, Trey and Cater, his teachers, anything to give him even a crumb to work off of.
♡ He eventually manages to track you down after extensive questioning and research. You’re living with a friend. A friend. Not only have you abandoned your education, you’ve started living with someone Riddle doesn’t even know. Jealously curls around his heart, what makes them so much better than him? Did they tempt you to run away? Why would you choose them over him?
♡ The moment your friend opens the door after he knocks, he immediately collars them, blocking their magic if they have any, and completely disregards them (and his manners) as he storms into their home looking for you. The moment he sees you, he immediately runs up and grips you on the shoulders, his voice rising to a shout as he barrages you with various questions and scoldings. About why you left school, left him, for moving in with a friend, and for not telling him anything about it.
♡ If your friend tries to intervene, Riddle will become so angry that he’ll scream at them to not barge in on people’s conversations before pushing them out of the room and locking the door with his magic. He’ll turn back to you, red-faced, and demand that you start packing your things. Even though he’s been questioning you, he doesn’t want to hear any explanation or excuses for your actions. He just wants you to start packing. He’ll completely ignore any protests from you, and if you don’t start gathering your belongings, he’ll do it for you.
♡ Once he’s made you collect all of your things, he drags you with him out of wherever you and your friend are living, not even bothering to remove their collar. He brings you right back to NRC, brings you to Heartslabyul, and locks you in a spare bedroom. He then goes straight to Crowley’s office and convinces him to enroll you again. When Riddle returns to you, he isn’t blindly angry, but will inform you in no uncertain terms that you are never to do anything like that ever again. In fact, he’ll cast a spell on you that leaves you physically unable to leave school grounds, even for school trips or to the rest of Sage’s Island.
♡ Once he’s ensured that any intentions to leave NRC again are unable to be executed, he returns to his internship. He calls you even more frequently, making you promise each time that you’re still at school and plan to stay that way until you finish the year. Any chances you could’ve had to get away in the future are mostly squandered, as Riddle will keep a closer eye on you than if you hadn’t ran away.
