Chapter Text
I wake up on the left side of my bed with my fiancee, but for real this time. Last night he proposed to me. I was overjoyed when he dropped to his knee and told me “Katniss Everdeen, the love of my life, forever, do you give me the pleasure to be your husband?" I cried. I cried hard. But now I have a small, but simple and beautiful sapphire on my hand, my favorite gem. I reach out to kiss him when I find him gone, missing from our bed.
“Babe! Peeta? Baby!” I call, but he's nowhere to be found, “Babe! Where the hell are you!”
Peeta finally shows.
“Kat, I’m just being smushed under your cheek, move to the right.” Peeta says, voice strained.
I move quickly, apologizing profusely, but Peeta pulls me closer, insisting we cuddle. I decide that a little cuddle won’t hurt. Why would I need to go to the woods to hunt when we have food for days? I don’t know, and everything makes more sense when I remember to hold Peeta as close as he holds me. We basically become one person with how close we hold each other. His morning breath mingles with mine as I bring my lips too close to his, so close to kissing. I press my lips to his and taste what you would expect from someone who hasn’t brushed their teeth and has already had their coffee, terrible. But he kissed me back, and we both decided that breakfast could wait. We murmured and kissed, laughed and talked about today’s plans: a whole lot of kissing. After a while, we decide to make pancakes for a late lunch. After getting out the bowls, he dumps the flour in the bowl and uses the rest to write a heart on my nose. I kiss him then put in the butter and sugar. He cracks the egg then laughs as he drops the shell in an accident, then he pries it out with his hands. I measure the milk, pour it in, then he puts in the salt and the baking powder, then puts it on the stove in messy ovals. We clean up the mess joking around, then the timer beeps.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Looks like it’s time to flip them, so I do. Peeta kisses me then puts me on the counter to ‘get a better view of’ my ‘beautiful face.’ He storms my face, neck, and hands with kisses, leaving a little purple mark on my collarbone. When the kissing stops, we end the cooking and top with a whipped cream and chocolate powdery flakes. Yum. A good day with Peeta is a day where we kiss over and over again. Today was the first of many perfect days I hope to spend with my beautiful fiancee. The only thing that could’ve gone better was waking up earlier and spending more time with him.
“Love you, baby.” I state
“I love you to the moon and to Saturn, and back, my love.” He said sweetly, easily beating me in the ‘I love you’ game.
His eyelashes poke his eyes as he blinks slowly at me, only half awake, still. He groans and fakes a little pain so I can kiss him. I would kiss him no matter what, he knows this, but he also knows I kiss him more when he’s in at least minor pain, faking it still means kisses for him, so I decide that letting him be, but kissing his cheeks should suffice, not before he moves his head to ‘check out the snow that might happen because it’s forecasted’ even though it’s the middle of summer and we’re currently in an extreme heat advisory. As it turns out, he wanted me to kiss him full.on.the.mouth. And I would’ve if he just asked, but we’re doing it in a better way, laughing, pecking quickly like popcorn pops. But I decide that feeling his lips on mine for seconds at a time is better. I keep his lips on mine as his tongue seeks entry. We kiss again and again, but the kisses are longer as the need for more intensifies. His hands start to go from resting on my hips to going under my shirt, feeling his warm, calloused hands from baking many, many, years on my cold back. I shiver from the heat as we bring our lips together again for kisses, more and more. The noise of a doorbell throws us off as we realise that my mom and my little duck were here to congratulate us in person. My flushed body pulls apart from his as I realise I gave Prim a spare key, they just knocked to announce they were there. My sister and mother are in my house, to celebrate my engagement, but they walked in to me and my fiancee having a full-on makeout session on our couch. Great. I greet our house guests and usher them to our kitchen and they make a nice chef team, and we eat dinner and chit-chat. After they leave, we forget what we did before and just go to sleep, embarrassed of what happened. We sleep comfortably, yet knowing that we can’t do anything now like that in anywhere but our room. Kisses won’t be safe anymore on our couch. Hugs will be the extent now that my mom and Primmy can enter whenever they want. No space but a locked room that they can’t open is truly safe. I fall asleep knowing that he loves me and he wouldn’t give me up for anything, and I dream of more kisses under trees and in caves. Sleep is a comfort I reach only when he cuddles me close.
