Work Text:

Toyas pov:
"A-aoyagi-kun? Are you feeling ok?” Kohane asked Toya.

“Huh? Oh..yeah. I’m feeling alright. Don’t worry about me, Azusawa.” They’re on their way to Weekend Garage after school. Toya was buying coffee when he ran into Kohane, so they decided to go together.

“You look sick, Aoyagi-kun. Do you need me to take you to the doctor?” Kohane asked.

“Ah. Thank you, Azusawa but I’m actually ok. I stayed up late last night because father forced me to practice Concerto in B major until I can play it without mistakes.” Toya replied. It hurts his head, every time that he has to practice the violin or the piano. Or even anything associated with classical music.

“You’re still doing classical? Aoyagi-kun?”

“Yeah. Father said that if I do classical then he will allow me to do street music. But it's still hard…” Toya trailed off as he saw Akito on the opposite side of the street, holding a box of pancakes.

“Oi Toya!” Akito shouted and waved.

“Sh-shinonome-kun!” Kohane waved at him.

“Hi Akito.” Toya smiled at him.

“Let's go in!” Akito quickly pushed open the door of Weekend Garage. Instantly, the familiar smell of coffee beans and pancakes flew out of the cafe. Toya took a deep breath. Coffee beans are the one of the only things that can make him calm down. He doesn’t understand how Akito likes coffee with a huge amount of sugar plus a huge amount of milk. He always told him: “If you add that much, the coffee won’t be original and it won’t be coffee anymore.” Still every time they go out to eat, Akito always gets the sweetest one.

They found a place to sit down and Ken, An’s father came in front of their table.

“Anything you’d like to order?” Ken asked.

“I have a cup of coffee already.” Toya showed him the coffee cup.

“I-I’d like a cup of milk tea please.” Kohane placed her order.

“Uhh, maybe…fruit tea please! Also, An is late again. What’s up with her?” Akito looks angry.

Ken laughed. “Ok, your orders will be ready in about 20 minutes! In the meantime, do you kids wanna start warming up?”

“But An-chan isn’t here yet, Shiraishi-san.” Kohane said.

“That kid, she’s always here and there. Don’t worry! She’ll definitely come before your order’s ready. If you wanna wait for her, you can eat the pancakes Akito brought for us today!” Ken smiled at them and left to do their orders.

Toya stared mindlessly outside. Lately father has been really harsh on him. The bowing isn’t right! You’re supposed to play mi instead of fa! How can you make a beginner’s mistake like that? These comments stayed in Toya’s mind all day. He couldn’t shake them off. Sure, he can give up on classical music, but if he did… father will take away his privilege of doing street music.

A finger poked him. He turned. It's Akito.

“Oi baka, you’ve been staring into nothing for 5 minutes!” Akito said. “Here, open your mouth.” Before Toya can say anything, Akito already parted Toya’s lips with his fingers and sent a forkful of pancake into Toya’s mouth.

“Ahiho! Sop gooing dah! Oo sweeh!” Toya protested with his mouth full.

“C’mon bro. The sweeter the better. I really don’t get how you can drink your coffee black. That thing,” He pointed at Toya’s cup of plain black coffee. “is not for humans to drink.”

Toya laughed. It's always so fun with Akito.

When he was young, he’d always go to Tsukasa-senpai and Saki’s house. The Tenmas were fun. They’d play hide and seek, dress up with Saki, and eat snacks together. Their parents met through piano, since Tsukasa’s mom was a piano teacher. They’d practice together too. But then Saki fell really sick and was hospitalized. He stopped going to their house.

He was lonely.

Lonely.

For a long time.

Then he met Akito. The orange haired boy that was very rude to everyone at school. The test cheater. The popular handsome guy that all the girls are obsessed with. How did they even become friends? Toya thought. In middle school, Toya was the top of the class in every test. He was quiet, not really talking to anyone, and always ate lunch by himself. Not that he minded it. But he was lonely. Music. Was how they connected. That day on Vivid street was a day he will never forget. He just had a fight with father, so he escaped from his house and decided to sing. Many people came to listen. The crowd cheered and cheered as he finished the song. Then he noticed someone familiar. He was staring intensely at Toya as he sang. The moment Toya got offstage, Akito ran up to him.

“Excuse me, Aoyagi. You might know me since we’re in the same class, my name is Akito Shinonome. You sure can sing! I’m looking for a person to build a group with, are you interested?” That was how their friendship started. Of course Toya knows him. He’s been watching him for a long time, before Akito even acknowledges Toya’s existence.

Of course… of course he knew him.

Akito, Toya’s first crush. How can he even describe how much emotions filled him when Akito came up to talk to him? It was overwhelming. It was so overwhelming that Toya couldn’t even sleep that night.

He had never imagined that Akito, the popular guy, would find someone like him as a singing partner. But… It's not easy. Keeping this one sided love to himself. It's not easy, whenever Akito holds someone else's hands instead of his. It's not easy, whenever Akito comes up to Toya and talks to him. He often has the urge to actually pin Akito against the wall and kiss him. He couldn’t do that, can he? The relationship would be broken. Because Akito would never like him. He would never… never like a guy.

Akito’s pov:

The sun’s shining brightly into Weekend Garage. They were waiting for An to finish helping her dad with the dishes and stuff. Akito had offered to help, but Ken-san said that there's no need to make the guest help, and dragged An into the kitchen.

Kohane is reading a book.

Toya is sleeping on Akito’s shoulder.

And Akito… Well, Akito is doing nothing except for thinking about which pancake stores he hasn’t been to yet. Lets see, the one in the Shizutsuki Mall, and the other one just around this street…

Toya moved his head. Akito looked down at him. His double colored hair shone brightly in the sun. His peaceful face…his fingers around Akito’s arm. Since when was Toya so beautiful? Thought Akito.

Toya was his first best friend.

Before that, he was really lonely.

Yeah, he was the popular guy in the class, so surely he should have some friends. That's what he also thought when he first went to middle school. But it turns out that even if you’re popular doesn’t mean that you will have a lot of friends. He was always by himself in his first year, even though everyone knew him. In his second year, he got to the same class as Toya. Toya sits in the front row, a seat in front of him, where every good grade student sat. He didn’t even know what his name was. But staring at him everyday made Akito want to make friends with him. He doesn’t know how to socialize. Every time he tries to talk to someone, he ends up being rude and hurting them. He doesn’t want to hurt the blue haired boy.

Akito was just going to the store to buy some cheesecake when he saw him singing. The blue haired boy from school. Akito stopped in his tracks. His voice was beautiful. No, beautiful is not enough to describe it. More like, majestic. The way he sings straight into people’s hearts, Akito can never surpass that.

“Looks like Aoyagi-kun’s at it again right? Last time he sang here, I stayed an extra 20 minutes just to hear him sing!” A girl said beside Akito.

“Yeah! He’s so handsome and his voice is so good!” Her friend replied.

Aoyagi. His name is Aoyagi. Thought Akito.

The performance ended very soon. Aoyagi started walking away. Akito ran as fast as he could and grabbed Aoyagi’s sleeve.

“Excuse me, Aoyagi. You might know me since we’re in the same class, my name is Shinonome Akito. You sure can sing! I’m looking for a person to build a group with, are you interested?” Akito said. Build a group? A complete lie. Akito hasn't even thought of teaming up with someone. But that moment, something urged him to say it.

“My name is Aoyagi Toya. Nice to meet you. I’ll give the group a thought. Can I get your number?” Toya asked. Akito’s stomach did a little flutter. He felt so happy that he could burst.

“Uh, uh, sure. Here's my number-” He said to him.

Toya smiled. His smile. It is the absolutely best smile in the world. Akito thought…

“A-ki-to! Get up right now! It’s your turn to pay for the drinks.” An’s nudged Akito.

I fell asleep? Akito thought. He looked at Toya sleeping on his shoulder. He ruffled his hair and gently laid his head on another chair. He turned around and said: “Lets go pay.” And found An smirking.

“What?”

“Nothing…but can I talk to you after you pay?” Akito nodded.

“So. Do you like him?” An asked. They’re sitting on the bench outside of Weekend Garage.

“Him? Who are you talking about?” Akito snapped back. Even though he knew exactly what An was talking about.

“You know, Toya! The way that you look at him, and the way you fed pancakes to him…”

“How did you find that out?” Akito blushed.

“I do have a girlfriend.” An smiled mysteriously. “Anyways, is it yes or no?”

“I’m not gay.” Akito said with determination.

“Stage one: Denial.” An said.

“I already told you! I’m not gay! I don’t like him!” Akito said angrily.

“Stage two: Anger.” An said with a smile on her face. Akito faced palms himself.

“Can you stop?” Akito said as he stood up.

“Well, if you’re gonna keep denying it, I can’t help you. It's kinda obvious you know.” An said with a thoughtful face. Akito sat back down.

“Is it really that obvious?” That moment. That one moment. Akito realized that he’s madly in love with Toya. But Toya will never love him back. Toya will never like a guy like him. Toya’s too good for him. Toya…

“You okay?” An looked at him concerningly. He suddenly realized that he’s on his knees and is putting his head between his hands.

“What if…what if he doesn't love me back? What if he feels disgusted and then runs away and never talks to me again? What if-” Akito stopped when he saw Toya open the door of the cafe.

“Akito? What are you doing? Shiraishi-san told us to come in and have a treat.” Toya said, looking at Akito.

Akito felt his face grow hotter and hotter. He can’t see him right now. He can’t even talk to him. It’s too hard. He stood up and ran away.

“Akito-” Toya’s eyes widened in shock. Then he ran after him. Akito can hear An and Kohane shouting behind. And Toya’s breath. He didn’t know where to run.

“Wait Akito! Please wait for me!” Toya shouted.

“Leave me alone! I don’t want to talk to you!” Akito shouted back. Toya stopped running. Akito stopped in his tracks and turned around. Under the sunlight of the evening, Toya looks 10x more beautiful than normal. His smile, and his eyes-

“Akito.” Toya said softly. A tear began to form in his eye. “I love you. I should’ve said it sooner.”

“Wha-? Wait, am I dreaming?” Akito slapped his face. It hurts. This is real.

“Since middle school. I have always had a crush on you. When you invited me to join your group, I was so happy I could die. I’ve always looked at you from afar and you-” Toya’s voice broke. Akito stood there. Stunned.

Toya walked up to Akito and put his hands on the sides of Akito’s face. “Be my boyfriend. Please.”

“Huh?” Akito said.

Toya puts a finger to Akito’s lips. He leaned down, his face only a few centimeters away from Akito’s. His blue hair gently brushed Akito’s face. Akito blushed.

“To-” Toya directly leaned down and kissed him on the lips softly. He’s such a good kisser, thought Akito. His brain is blank, filled with nothing but Toya's skin against his and their connecting lips. He kissed Toya back. Suddenly, Toya pulled away. “Whats wrong?” Asked Akito.

“I feel so happy right now.” Toya said with the biggest smile that Akito has ever seen his entire life.

An’s pov:

She knew it.

She had always known it.

Ever since Akito introduced his ‘new’ friend to An.

Her first impression of Toya was simply that he was the top student. Sure, he’s handsome and all the girls in the class are obsessing over him, but he doesn’t seem like he likes girls. Maybe it’s because An had read too much Yaoi. But her instinct told her this guy can’t be straight. Akito too. Spending all these years being his girl best friend told her that there’s no way he’s straight because he’s never liked a girl. Not ever. Now that Akito and Toya ran off together, she knows something good is going to happen.

“Trust me, Kohane. They will come back as a couple.” An smirked at Kohane.

“You’re right all this time, An-chan.” Kohane replied.

“You teens are as problematic as ever.” Ken san said behind them, watching the sunset as well as Akito and Toya holding hands then walking back. “I wish I experienced the same thing you guys experienced when I was your age.” He sighed. “Well, I guess that at least they had a happy ending.”

“Kohane-chaaaan! I heard what happened!” A robotic voice suddenly said from Kohane’s phone.

“Ah! Miku chan!” Kohane gasped.

“Ya-ho! Miku and I were listening all this time! Len and Rin said they wanted to come too, but Meiko managed to keep them in the store with ice cream as a bribe.” Kaito’s mechanical voice popped up from Kohane’s phone.

“You guys knew what was happening all this time?” An asked.

Miku smiled. “Well, we would know. That is because a Sekai is born from true feelings isn’t it?”
