Chapter Text

The wind blows a fine tune, bushes and trees dance outside, lit up by the light from inside the Owl House. Graffiti tainted the walls of what was once home to the infamous trio, which had previously haunted the isles with their light-hearted shenanigans, other than breaking out of the conformatorium, of course. The inside matches the outside. Eda and Raine cuddled up on a beanbag, Camila chatting with Lily, and Hooty and King play-fight beside them, while Luz and Amity talk together, reconnecting after the large conflict that took place.

Eda opens her eyes and looks around the room, an overwhelming feeling of peace and serenity filling her heart at the quiet, meaningful conversations scattered across the room. She glances up at Raine, her partner. She's been waiting to reconnect like this, but as her gaze falls onto their face, she notices their jaw clenched and their face stern. She lifts herself up onto one elbow, her face suddenly concerned and worried.

“Raine, is something wrong? Did…did I overstep boundaries or anything?” Eda asks slowly, pulling away from them. They immediately grab her wrist and pull her back slightly.

“No, there's nothing wrong; I'm just in pain. It's just my waist and arm, but I'm fine, really! “You don’t have to worry,” Raine quickly reassures her, not wanting to push her away or worry her, although it was too late already.

“No raine, What’s wrong? You’re in pain.” Eda pushes.

“It’s just the scars sting slightly, but it’s really nothing; please, let’s just deal with it tomorrow.” They go quiet at the end, their voice quietening slightly as they are only saying that reluctantly themselves.

“At least let me look at it then…please, just a slight inspection.” Eda pushes further, her worry not subsiding. Raine feels slightly irritated but also fluttery at her reluctance to stop worrying about them. “Alright, fin

Eda closes the door behind them both and guides Raine to sit down on a stool as she heads to grab a first aid kit. “So what exactly hurts? Your shoulder, forearm, or what?” Eda asks as she turns around to face Raine, who's avoiding her gaze with their arm on their shoulder.

“Just my shoulder,” they mutter, trying to distract themselves with anything else in the bathroom.

“Didn’t you say your waist also hurt?” Eda asks them to step down to their level and open the kit.

“...yeah,” Raine mumbles again.

“Is it the bruises from the abominations? “They did grip you and Lily quite hard,” Eda says, unsure how to deal with their silence. Raine shakes their head.

“Rainstorm, you have to talk to me. What hurts? I can’t help you if you stay silent,” Eda insists, her patience running thin with their inability to work properly.

“It’s just the scars…they sting a bit,” Raine says, wrapping their arms around their waist, practically having a staring competition with the door, desperately trying to escape Eda’s eyes.

“They go down to your waist?” Eda asks more to herself than Raine as her eyes run over their wrapped waist.

“Mhm.”

“Can I see? I need to be able to see your shoulder anyway...but if you're not comfortable, you don't have to, of course.” Eda quickly stumbles, not wanting to force Raine. A wave of silence envelops them until Raine finally sighs and meets Eda's concerned gaze, their expression softening as they recognise her desire to help.

Raine slowly grabs the hem of their shirt, fiddling with it, mentally preparing themselves.
“Are you sure? "I mean, it's not that painful," Raine tells her, more so trying to convince themself by staring at their shirt. Eda places a hand on theirs and squeezes it. “Rainstorm, I don’t want to force you to do anything; I just want to help you,” she says, forcing Raine to meet her gaze.

“Alright …just don’t…” “If you want me to put it back on, just tell me,” Raine says, their voice trembling slightly as they pull their shirt off.

Eda steps back slightly, letting Raine take their shirt off. As it falls to the ground, she gazes over their waist painted by scars of Belo's possession. “How did this even…?” Eda trails off, extending an arm to the scars. “Can I?” Eda hesitates, looking up at Raine as they nod. Eda hesitantly runs her hands over their torso, careful to not inflict any harm. “You know, I’m glad you showed me this.”

Eda says putting her hand on their shoulder and meeting their gaze
“Are you sure you're not distraught or anything?” Raine asks, surprised but relieved.

“No, what? Why—why would you think that, Raine?!”

“Doesn’t this sort of look…weird? Scary even?” Eda looks up at Raine, shocked at their words.

“No, of course not! This is just a consequence of Belo’s possession! You were forced into literally being a puppet; these are just battle marks that you should be proud of! Besides, you got used to my harpy form. It's just fair that I get used to loving your scars!” Eda teases, poking them in the chest, causing Raine to smile sleepily.

Eda attends to their injuries, bandaging their shoulder and waist now with Raines's full trust, albeit the occasional hissing from them. As Eda

finally finishes tending to their injuries, she hands them back their shirt, which they happily pull back on.

The two quietly walk back to the living room, the sun fully down and a sweet scent coming from the kitchen, presumably Lily or Camila cooking dinner. The two sit down beside each other at the table, watching Camila cooking some human enchiladas with the help of Luz and King, who both scramble at her side, listening to every command, and King wailing as if he didn't want to help.

Raine leans onto Eda, exhausted mentally and physically. And Eda quickly wraps an arm around them, unsure of what to do. She looks over at Luz, who meets her gaze before looking back at Raine. “Come on, Rainstorm, let’s get you some sleep; being a puppet must be tiring after all.” Raine mumbles something incoherently but leans further into Eda, who looks at Luz and excuses the two of them.

She leads the two to her nest, closing the door behind them. She pats the rough nest in an attempt to soften it before resting Raine's body down. She gazes over their tired, half-asleep features before squeezing their hand and walking back to the kitchen, just before Raine pulls her hand. “No, stay…please.”

“...awh, someone is clingy,” Eda mutters, trying to divert attention from her blushing as she climbs into the nest beside Raine. Eda awkwardly lies beside them, unsure of how to go about this, panicking inside her mind. RAINE WANTS ME TO LIE WITH THEM. OH MY TITAN. AHWGH.

Raine curls up, nestling their head in her neck; Eda’s heart simply melts at the sight, and she immediately wraps her arm around them, holding them close. Eda runs her hand through their minty-green hair. Raine leans into her touch, exhaling heavily, “This is nice.” Raine quietly mutters against Edas’ chest, “Yeah, it really is.”

“Why don’t we do this more often?” Raine chuckles softly.

“Oh, I don’t know, maybe because we were fighting a dictator, you dingus.”

“Well, why don’t we start now?”

“Oh well, I mean, if you want to, we could, of course.” Eda nervously laughs.

“I’d like that,” Raine mumbles, nestling closer into Eda’s hold.

“Me too.” Eda digs her face in Raine’s hair to hide her blushing despite seeing Raine blush in the corner of her eye.

They slowly fall asleep together, holding each other close, a mess of years of unsaid words and feelings yet to be expressed. The Owl House settles down; Eda's children set up sleeping bags in Luz's room along with Camila, while Darius, Eberwolf, Lily, Hooty, and Raine's children set up sleeping areas in the living room. Nobody is entirely sure where Eda and Raine are, but the same thought occurred to everyone, one that was a long time coming.
