The party was going great, every one was laughing and paling around-
Plotz couldn't help the growing smile on his smarmy face- everything was going according to plan! Even the warners were behaving!
He rubbed his hands excitedly as he sat with the investors, talking and laughing- joking around. Things were finally looking up.
Plotz excused himself for a moment- finding the good doctor congregating by the punch bowl; talking to a well dressed Micheal Keaton.
Plotz; ever the short- gently tugged on the bottom of the doctors dress shirt. He held a finger before turning to the rather staggered chairman.
"-everything is going great so far scratchnsniff!" His smile widened before turning away from the crowd. The CEO grabbed the laddle and filled a cup of punch. He pulled scratchnsniff down to his level "I want those warners out of here." He glared, lowering his brows.
The good doctor paused; standing back up "vhat?! But they behaved! Zhey held up zheir end of zhe bargain!" he felt his stomach drop, why would the chairman break his promise?
"-i don't have that check yet. And I don't want those....kids...messing it up before the deal is struck" he scrunched his nose before grabbing ottos collar "get those kids out of here. Or it's your job understand?"
The psychiatrist stood straight, giving a soft nod. He held his head as he watched the CEO walk away.
-
Yakko sat at a table, watching wakko scarf down a third bread basket. Dot watched from the other side, twirling a fork under the pad of her finger; a little bored "I thought there'd be more..." She huffed.
"-Don knotts hasn't shown up yet! So there's still hope!" Wakko perked up, his tail wagging. Dot waved a hand at him as she poured "-youre probably the only person in the planet who finds interest in don knotts" she folded her arms, wakko stuck a tongue at her "-okay then- who are you looking for?"
"-someone interesting!" She threw her hands up "-it's not like Keanu reeves is gonna fall outta the sky sis-" yakko teased "id settle for billy winter" Dot pouted.
The three paused upon seeing the psychiatrist approach their table "-alright kidses, time to go home" yakko paused "what? But why?"
"-zhe chairmen says it's time for you to go home" slowly he began to usher the trio out of the soundstage, the rather biting cold spring night snapped at them. "But we behaved! Just like you asked!" Yakko blinked, his face slowly getting hot. He could feel tears begin to bubble; they did what they were told! What was asked of them! They tried! They really tried this time! And now- they were getting kicked out?!
"-i know but- it's time for beds ja?" Scratchy tried to console them, being as gentle as he could.
"-no dinner with Keanu reeves?-" Dot gripped the end of her dress trail, twisting it in her hands.
"-no dance with michelle Pfeiffer?-" yakko threw his hands at his side, huffing, the stinging tears slowly burning down his eyes.
"No chit chat with don knotts?!" Wakko fell back against the foundation of the tower.
Scratchnsniff paused as he stared at the three, he knew they tried, but what was he to do? He sighed as he slowly turned "i-i know but-"
He was stopped mid sentence by yakko, holding his hand up before climbing up the ladder, his siblings following quickly behind.
"-i know when we're not wanted! I know when we should just- go home!" He stopped mid ladder. He blinked as a rather horrid idea racked his hubris. He jumped off the ladder. "-but now is not one of those times-"
Dot paused before climbing down and taking after her brother "yakko what are you doing?!"
"-whats it look I'm doing?-"
"-it looks like you're running back into the party" wakko stuck his tongue out, letting it fall lopsided.
Yakko swung his arm "exactly-" he snapped "cmon sibs. They wanna kick us out for no reason? Well let's give em a reason!" The two erupted in cheers as the ran back into the party.
Well...
Here they were now.
Standing in front of the strong, dark oak tree. dirty, scrapped up and out of breath.
Yakko knocked on the door, hoping with crossed fingers they weren't too late.
The sound of a light turning on and grumbled; tired mumbling could be heard.
"-im coming I'm comin- hold yer-" the door opened as slappy stood in the door way. The tired anger in her eyes was quickly replaced with shock and surprise.
"-horses-" she let her voice trail off as yakko gave her a soft, small smile "heyyyyyy slappy...." He waved.
Wakko rubbed his arm as he looked away, shame in his eyes, his face covered in bruises and shmuckers. His hair was a mess, also covered in red raspberry jelly.
A small glop of what slappy could only assume was grape soda was what Dot tugged at in the dirty singed fur of her cheek tufts. From what the old squirrel could tell, it was sticky.
"-lookin a bit-" slappy began "worse for wear eh kiddos?" She was about to ask, but figured who to ask for more details later. She turned to yakko.
He needn't give her any more words as she jabbed a thumb; gesturing inside as she nudged her head to the side "come on in...I've got a fresh walnut pie on the stove"
The morning after did not seem to cool of her brimming anger. Her eyes passed over the three children, snoozing away on her chair.
She sighed softly as she reached for her phone. She had a very angry call to make, but she felt it better to do it in person. She slid the phone back into the receiver and grabbed her keys.
The office was unusually quite for the doctor. He finished a few lingering pieces of paperwork; had filed away all his client papers- neatly organized his desk and-
The door slammed open, cracking the wall in its usual cartoonish fashion.
It made Otto flinch just the slightest. He adjusted his glasses before calming down "ah! Slappy! Vhat can I do for you?" He relaxed his shoulders as he sat up straight.
"-ill tell ya what ya can do for me!" She slammed her hands on his desk "you can tell me what yous were thinkin last night!" She glared, her tail frizzing.
Scratch had known slappy since the early days of his career, she was one of his first clients. Helping the hot tempered squirrel was sometimes considered a blessing, to see her rampage in his office instead the warners- he-
Slappy grabbed the front of his shirt, balling it in her hands "I got three kids sittin in my chair. Tired, dirty an without their dad-"
"-oh nien. I'm-im not-" Otto stuttered, slappy released her hold, letting him fall back in his chair "oh please. We all know you care for those kids." She furrowed her brows "that's not th point-" she shook her head.
Otto gulped slightly as he adjusted his glasses, cleaning the lenses with the edge of his sleeve "zhen ...vhat is zhe point?" Slappy pointed a rather- sharp knife to the tip of his nose "this is the point-" she narrowed her teal eyes "somethin happened last night that got those kids riled up. Must've been pretty bad if they came to my doorstep-" she reeled her arm back, setting the knife back in her purse.
Otto shifted- the memory of last night! It it him with the force of a semi truck "zhe party .." his voice trailed off. Slappy raised a brow "party? What party?"
"-zhe...zhe gala..plotz threw a gala for some...investors-"
"-okay? Keep talkin-" she slowly showered herself onto the couch.
"-zhe investors vanted to meet everyone zhat vorked for zhe studio- vhich...included zhe varners" guilt swelled in his throat, to which he gently ran a hand over "it took a bit of vork, but zhey finally learned to behave!" A rather proud smile grew on his face "zhey vere doin ratzher vell! His smile faded as he rubbed his thumb over his knuckles "-but, zhat didnt stop Mr plotz from throwing zhem out. I tried to be gentle. To get zhem home- but zhen zhey started doing that zhe varners alvays do-"
"-so this is all plotz' fault?'
Otto was rather quick to agree, more so than he'd like to admit, his hands slowly gripping the edge of his desk "zhey did chase after him at zhe end of zhe party. Turns out zhe investors really liked zhe varners" he scratched at his chin as he thought for a moment.
Slappy raised a brow, her tail curling and uncurling as she tapped her fingers against her cheek "why did you just tell them the truth?"
"-zhey found out! Zhe investors handed zhem zhe check!" Otto held a knuckle to his lips, stifling a laugh "zhey ended up chasing mr plotz around zhe soundstage!" He let a small chuckle escape.
Slappy nodded, letting a smile creep through her teeth "-i may be hot tempered. But you need to learn some patience" she put her hands on her hips "now collect your children and evict them from my house." She glares.
"-zhey aren't my-" he sighed. There really was no point in fighting the squirrel. Slowly he wheeled his chair out from behind his desk.
Otto reached for his coat and followed behind. To collect the bundle of sleeping warners, effectively "evicting" them from Slappy's tree, as per her words.
The tower was rather organized, still messy, But much more controlled than he thought.
The living room- if one could call it that- had a nice green couch, a set of bunk beds far in the back right next to the kitchen.
He carefully set each one in their respective beds. Pulling the covers, tucking them in.
Yakko shifted, gently gripping the doctors shirt- rather tightly "wait-" his voice raspy- tired. He was still half asleep.
The good doctor turned; facing the eldest "yakko?" He whispered "sorry fer....ruinin' th' party" he slurred, trying to keep his voice down. Otto paused, his brows knitted together as his eyes softened "oh nien yakko. You didn't ruin zhe party"
"-Whats bou' th' vestors?..."
Otto sat on the edge of the bed, ducking just a bit, he rubbed a hand through yakkos fur, ruffling his hair "do...you not remember last night?"
Yakko drowsily shook his head "not much"
"-Zhe investors loved you zhree!"
Yakko stared at the psychiatrist, his brows curled in disbelief "-they...did?-" Otto nodded "zhey did! Zhey loved you so much zhey gave plotz zhe money he's been vanting" he laughed a little.
"-so we....didn't ruin th' party?..."
"-not in a bad vay. No"
Yakko slowly crawled out of his blankets, deciding to instead lay in the good doctors lap, resting his head against ottos chest "it almost cost me an earful from slappy"
A soft giggle emitted from yakko, along with a soft purr.
"-rest bitte..yakko"
No response. Yakko had fallen back asleep, still purring.
He combed his hand through his fur as he sighed "rest kiddies" he turned the lights off before closing the tower door as careful as he could.
Leaving them to rest for more chaos tomorrow. To which He was sure to get an earful and a headache.
