Work Text:
Endeavor.
Such a strange word, yet a word that Dazai Osamu had now grown accustomed to.
Each endeavor of his had been realized after he left the mafia.
Except for one.
Every time he gazed at the Yokohama ocean… he only saw a pair of ocean eyes.
Chuuya Nakahara’s ocean eyes.
He honestly never thought he would see those two ocean orbs again.
He never thought he would have the pure privilege to get lost in them again.
But the gods had an odd—no, cruel way of repaying Dazai for his crimes against the world.
It was a brisk night.
The sea breeze ran through Dazai’s brown hair, as he scouted the peer for the person he was supposed to hunt.
But he didn’t expect the person to be Chuuya Nakahara himself.
The President was smart enough to know that only Dazai was a match for Chuuya.
Only Dazai had to tear himself away from just gazing into Chuuya’s eyes, forcing himself away from just… drinking in every detail of his face and features as if he might never see him again.
Which was not entirely a lie.
“Mackerel?” Chuuya sneered, which snapped Dazai out of his staring.
The peer was only illuminated by the small street lamps that spilled golden light onto both of their faces.
Chuuya thought he was the only one who yearned for his ex-partner.
God.
He wanted to just… disregard everything.
It was as if everything all of a sudden lost meaning.
Double black wasn’t double black.
Rather, they were just Dazai and Chuuya.
Mackerel and Slug.
Dazai reached for Chuuya, and Chuuya did the same.
For a moment, they were both embraced in each other’s arms.
“I missed you Mackerel.”
“I missed you too Slug.”
Before reality closed its cruel jaws on the two of them.
“DAZAI!”
“CHUUYA!”
A single sound, and the two flew 20 feet apart.
The two men wanted nothing more than to remain in each other’s embrace.
To drink each other’s touch…
To bathe in each other’s scent…
But then Chuuya began to attack.
And Dazai had no choice but to fight back.
Chuuya knew better than to let his body anywhere near Dazai. Dazai wasn’t just dangerous; he was poison to Chuuya.
Both in the sense that a single touch could nullify Chuuya’s ability.
And in the sense that a single touch from the brunette could break the walls Chuuya had worked ever so hard on.
A single touch wouldn’t just hurt Chuuya.
It would be his very undoing.
