Work Text:
two weeks.
It had been two weeks since sasha returned. hobbling along the train station platform looking nothing short of a mess. He'd been disarrayed and, reasonably, upset, a definite contrast to his usual persona but it was justified given his situation.
to say anton was a little oblivious when they first reconnected, would be an understatement. too upset to be angry and too blinded by fear to consider sasha’s feelings, or at least at first. After bawling into the taller boys shoulder for no less than 15 minutes, his emotions finally caught up with his brain and he managed to form a sentence.
“why sasha? why did you do this?” he blubbered, struggling to form words through the flood of tears that hadn’t slowed even once.
a soft sigh escaped his lips but he didn’t answer, he didn’t speak at all in fact, unsure and a little too overwhelmed to have this conversation now as much as he adored antosha.
“sasha?” he spoke again, quieter this time.
“…i’m sorry.”
~~~
and that’s how they’d gotten to where they were now, seated shoulder to shoulder in antons bed, watching some stupid video on his phone while sasha desperately fought sleep besides him.
a small laugh escaped anton when a particularly funny part came up but sasha was too tired to focus, eyes flickering open and closed and body sagging farther into the bed the more time passed.
“sasha?” he questioned, eventually picking up on the sudden quietness on sasha’s end.
“ah, yeah?” he slurred, eyes half lidded as they flicked to antons face.
“…did you…want to sleep?” he asked with a slight hesitance that sasha didn’t seem to pick up on.
not that anton would ever admit it out loud but he’d grown to desperately dread sleep. every time he closed his eyes he’d imagine sasha gone in the morning, he’d think of all those horrible sleepless nights where he’d sob into a pillow while scrolling sasha’s camera roll. it was a terrifying thing for him, losing sasha a second time, and despite a few weeks having passed the fear hadn’t lessened in the slightest.
so when he got a slurred “fine, fine, don’t have too many wet dreams of me okay?” he felt a pit of anxiety form in his stomach.
sasha had slumped down into a lying position besides him, facing towards the wall with a peaceful expression on his face. was he already asleep? anton thought to himself.
he paused for a moment before following suit, sliding down besides sasha and placing his phone on the hardwood desk to his left. as he was silently staring up at the ceiling the thoughts got louder, deafening in the quiet bedroom.
he could let his guard down and sasha would be gone. if he simply stayed awake surely everything would be fine, right?
he thought back to similar times, times when he’d asked sasha to read him poems, times when they’d he’d fallen asleep at his desk, times when he didn’t feel any of the stress he felt now. was this how sasha had felt?
he bit the inside of his cheek, usually anton was the first to sleep so he didn’t have the ponder on these things, but obviously ever since sasha returned that had become increasingly difficult. once, quite a while ago, sasha had asked to hold his hand while they slept. so, perhaps he wouldn’t mind if anton held his hand now?
a pause, before he cautiously intertwined their fingers, a small flush dusted across his cheeks. He let his eyes slip shut, mind at a little more peace.
as the minutes passed, he subconsciously shifted closer to the sleeping boy, in a haze and not thinking clearly he wrapped an arm around his waist and pressed his forehead to the boys chest, calmed by the steady thump of his heartbeat.
eventually both boys were asleep, unintentionally pressed agasint eachother as the night progressed. luckily, knowing sasha he wouldn’t have any complaints in the morning when he found the brunette pressed agasint him.
~~~
a soft meow was what woke sasha up, eyes bleary and mind fuzzy as he regained consciousness. there was a surprising warmth spread across his entire body, he was naturally cold most of the time so waking up like this confused him in his hazed state.
eventually he got his eyes to focus enough in order to take in his surroundings. the first thing he noticed was gretcha, the cause of his sudden waking, sat on the edge of the bed. but it didnt take him long to realise the boy holding onto him. so that was why he’d felt so warm, anton, the brunette was pressed firmly against him, face squished between his neck, and arm looped around his waist while their fingers intertwined.
an intense expression suddenly appeared onto his face, eyes wide and body trembling as he realised what was happening. antosha tyanochkin was cuddling him in his sleep, he could pass away right now and be happy. his heart raced at the realisation, body fully awake now as he relished in the magnificent feeling.
he hoped this moment would never end.
tentatively, he let his eyes slip shut again, wrapping his own arm around antons waist with extreme caution, lest he wake him up and ruin this wonderful dream.
his breathing was even and deep, heartbeat soft against him. a peace like no other overtook him, forgetting all his worries as he held anton while he slept.
of course though, all good things come to an end, and after 10 or so minutes Antosha's eyes began to flutter open. sasha panicked for a moment before deciding faking being asleep was the best option. embarrassing anton into pulling away was the last thing he wanted, maybe if he pretended to be asleep he’d keep holding him at least for a little while longer.
a small yawn left the brunette, before a flush spread across his cheeks. once his eyes had fully opened he realised the position they were in and didn’t dare move, if he moved he’d risk sasha waking up and seeing them like this which he’d no doubt get teased about until the day he died. what a nightmare situation to be in.
he paused, mulling over his options for a moment before deciding caution was the best approach, he couldn’t just not move, sasha would definitely find out that way, at least if he attempted to pull away there was a chance of saving his dignity.
ever so carefully he retracted his arm. wondering how on earth he was going to get sasha’s arm off him without waking him up, he was a notoriously light sleeper after all.
sasha was, of course, already awake. but, despite his earlier desire for their cuddle to stretch on all morning, experiencing antons attempt to pull away without waking him was so unbearablely cute; it made up for it almost entirely.
he heard a soft grunt from the brunette before he’d pulled away completely, feeling his weight shift besides him as he sat up in bed.
it was silent for a moment before, he assumed, anton got out of bed, if the sudden sound of footsteps against the floor and his bedroom door opening was anything to go off of.
once he knew anton had left, he let his eyes slip open, sitting up in bed and already mourning the loss of warmth anton brang.
he sighed to himself softly, patiently waiting like a dog for him to return, probably in the bathroom or kitchen making breakfast.
5 minutes later, anton stepped back into the bedroom, sasha was casually scrolling the shorter boys phone, having gotten bored, much to antons dissaproval. he placed two cups of noodles on his desk before reaching over to pry the device out of his slim hands.
“sasha! you can’t just take other peoples things!” he scolded, unable to pry the phone from sasha’s firm grip.
“but antosha, you left me all alone! what else was i supposed to do? treating your guests so rudely…” he pouted, feigning a frown before anton finally managed to pull the phone from him.
“i was making food for us.” he replied, brow furrowed slightly as he placed the device on his desk, handing the noodles over instead. they smelt good, sasha’s heart picking up speed when he realised anton had made this just for him.
ah, he was so sweet.
Neither of them spoke of last night. as anton sat besides him, they both began eating the food, slipping into their usual conversation like nothing had happened.
sasha hoped they would cuddle again tonight.
