Work Text:
Megumi needs help. In fact, he's never needed help this badly before. He's finally feeling courageous enough to ask Yuuji out, but he has no idea how to. So, he came up with his not-so-genius idea of asking Gojo.
"Uhm..Hey Gojo!" Megumi walked his way up to Gojo's desk, with possibly his most embarrassing inquiry yet. He's practically been Gojo's kid for the past decade, but that doesn't stop him from being overwhelmed with embarrassment over every little thing he approaches Gojo with.
"What's up, Fushiguro?" Gojo smirked, leaning over his desk. Megumi was always so independant, if he had stayed after to ask him something it had to be important. Plus, there was just an aura around Megumi that this was something important. A certain tenseness to him just made it feel that way.
"Okay, basically.." Megumi took a breath to recollect himself.
Asking Gojo how to ask Yuuji out wasn't the brightest idea. Gojo couldn't keep his mouth shut for the life of him, but there weren't many other people he could ask. If Gojo was bad at keeping his mouth shut, Nobara was even worse. Asking Nobara would mean Itadori would know within the next hour. And he didn't consider himself close enough with the secound years to ask any of them.
"How do you..ask someone out? Like on a date.. A romantic one. The kind lovers go on." Megumi flustered in his own embarrassment, knowing what of Gojo's comments was to come. He's gone through this before.
"Oooooo a date? Who's the special girl? Or is it a guy?" He winked at Megumi, giggling to himself. He knew he was asking about Yuuji, but you never know. The way the two of them looked at each other made them appear like they were married lovers, not close friends. It was incredulously obvious they were in love.
"Guy..It's a guy.." Megumi mumbled in unease, burying himself deeper in his uniform. If he wasn't already dead from embarrassment, he would die soon.
"Ok then, who's the lucky guy? Do I know him?"
"...Maybe you do. So what? Can you just answer my question already?"
"So I do? Alright then!" He smirked, this absolutely confirmed his suspicion. "But if I have to answer your question, just be confident. If you're not confident you'll come across as a total loser. Nobody really wants to date a total loser. Some people are into losers, but you just can't completely be one you know? Back on topic, don't ask him to go somewhere shitty with you for a first date. It's disrespectful you know? And if they don't like you back, which I doubt, don't take it personally."
Megumi found Gojo's rambling entertaining, but Megumi really just wanted a straight foward answer. How would he know if he was coming across as some loser?
At least Gojo was funny. If Megumi wasn't at least laughing a slightest bit right now he would've bolted straight out of here.
"Thanks Gojo.." Megumi started his way out with a wave and a smile.
"Can I ask you a question before you go?"
"What?"
"Is your lucky guy Itadori?"
Megumi, looking about as red as a fully ripened strawberry, ran out of the room. Gojo immediately took that as a yes.
As soon as Megumi made it back to his dorm, he flopped on his bed. He swore he would never talk to Gojo for advice ever again after last time, but clearly he was defeated in a competition against himself.
Asking for dating advice couldn't have been that bad of an idea though, he was super handsome, he had to have been on some sort of date before. Even a straight man could tell you that, in which Megumi considered himself until he met Yuuji.
Taking off his uniform, he changed into his coral-pink pajamas. He always thought the pajamas were embarrassing, but they reminded them of Yuuji so he kept them.
As mind wrapped around Yuuji, he decided now was the perfect time to text Yuuji. He needed to come up eith a way to confess.
Megumi:
Hey Yuuji
Yuuji❤:
Hai Fushiguro!!! Wsp >_<
Megumi:
Can you meet me in the courtyard tomorrow at 2?
Yuuji❤:
I'll be there :)
At least he got it over with. Now he has to deal with the actual hard part, but that was tomorrow. He could deal with everything tomorrow without having to deal with seeing Yuuji and potentially saying something stupid.
Until there was a knock at his door. "Come in!!!"
"I didn't mean to startle you, sorry Megumi" Yuuji walked in and sat next to Megumi on his bed.
They were bros, it's fine, normal friends did this. Why was he so flustered?
"What's going on Itadori?"
"I ordered a pizza from the place down the street," yuuji threw his leg over his other. "I didn't realize they're not doing deliveries right now. It's dark out, will you walk with me to pick it up? I'll even give you a few slices."
Yuuji didn't know why this felt so intimate. It was just asking Megumi to come with him. While they were alone together. Megumi was there to protect him from whatever nonexistent thing he was scared of.
"Yeah, when do we have to pick it up?" Megumi stood up and started slipping his jacket on.
"Uhhh I think it said it'll be ready in 25 minutes? So we should get going?" Yuuji grabbed Megumi's hand to pull himself off his bed, dropping it a few seconds after standing up. However, those few seconds were enough to make both of them bright red.
Once outside, they made their way. But Megumi realized Yuuji was shivering in his t-shirt and sweatpants. Yuuji had always been too stubborn to wear jackets and it would concern him everytime.
"Do you want my coat?" Megumi looked down to watch the rock he was kicking while walking to avoid getting even more flustered from looking at Yuuji.
"Uhm..are you sure? It'll be cold for you too, and I swear I've built a tolerance to the cold by now."
"Then why are you shivering? You know it's not kind to lie." Megumi chuckled to himself.
"Fine."
As Yuuji feigned defeat, Megumi let out a light hearted cheer before stopping in his tracks to take off his jacket. He put it on Yuuji, refusing to let him put it on himself. He looked so small in Megumi's jacket, like a little hamster hiding under a blanket.
All Yuuji could think about was Megumi's hands on him. Sure the touch wasn't romantic in any way, but it made him feel so warm and fuzzy. People called Megumi cold, but to Yuuji he has the warmest heart of anyone he knew.
"You ready to keep walking?" Yuuji snapped out of his daze, focusing his eyes back on the path in front of him instead of staring at Megumi.
"Y-yeah..Let's c'mon, we'll be there really soon if we keep walking."
After passing another block and a half or so, they made it to the pizza place and waited at the counter to ask if their pizza was done yet.
Turns out it was, and they sat down at one of the tables and ate together.
"Kinda feels like a date, doesn't it?" Yuuji giggled at his own joke. He wished it was a date. On his luck, Megumi was probably straight through. He's never seen Megumi talk about having interest in a guy, but he's definitely talked about the girls he had crushes on in middle school.
"Right..Yeah.." Megumi froze up, not knoeing what else to say without making it awkward if Yuuji really didn't like him. He looked out the window and realized it started snowing. Great distraction for him!
"Hey Yuuji, look it's snowing!"
Yuuji's eyes lit up like he was an elementary schooler experiencing their first snow day. The way he looked in awe was the cutest thing Megumi had ever seen. "No way!!"
"I'll get Ijichi to pick us up if you don't want to walk in the snow"
"But I want to walk in the snow, as long as you carry the rest of the pizza back." Yuuji whined, looking with puppy dog eyes he just couldn't say no to.
"Fine, I'll do it." The corners of his mouth tilted up ever so slightly, giving his hand to help Yuuji out of his chair.
And he took his hand.
The walk back didn't feel nearly as personal as the walk to the pizza place. They talked casually walking back, like nothing had gone on between them today whatsoever. Crushes were funny like that.
The worst part of the ordeal was that he had to say goodbye to Yuuji. Getting back meant that even though he wouldn't be in the cold anymore, he also wouldn't be with Yuuji for the rest of the night. He would stand through 100 winters if it meant spending more time with Yuuji.
The rest of Megumi's night was spent lying in his bed, imagining him and Yuuji together. Imagining him next to himself in bed. Imagining morning kisses and soft hugs. There was nothing he wanted more than Yuuji Itadori; and that's all he thought about until his eyes fluttered shut.
Rubbing his eyes, Megumi shut off the alarm screeching out of his phone. He still doesn't know why he agreed to let Yuuji scream into his phone for his alarm tone. At least it was effective. He opened his phone to check the small amount of notifications he got overnight, disappointed to see none were from who he was looking for.
Even though it's a Saturday, this is the most effort he's put into getting ready in a long time. The most he does on the daily is spike his hair up in the morning before classes. Today he's keeping it down. Yuuji said he liked it that way anyway.
Today, he's sending a 'good morning' text to Yuuji. He's always found it romantic to say good morning every day, even if there's no connotation behind it. Maybe it's just the idea that they thought of you.
Yuuji woke up at noon. Why was that a problem? His alarm went off at nine. At least he slept well. Too many times has he overslept AND slept uncomfortably.
When he opened his phone, he was greeted with a "good morning" text from Megumi three hours ago. He felt bad sending 'good morning' back when it wasn't even technically morning anymore, but better late than never.
He still had time to heat up leftover pizza for lunch before getting ready. The night before he made Megumi give him the pizza back after carrying it for him. He felt bad but he got pizza so it was a win.
Yuuji wore something other than a t-shirt and sweatpants on an off day. He never does this, which made today even more special. If Megumi just randomly wants to talk alone in the courtyard, it must be a pretty important occasion anyway.
He decided trying eyeliner out again was a good idea. He tried it one time before and Gojo said he looked like a baby tiger. That's not a negative comment though! Megumi always wears atleast some sort of eye product, and swears he would "die without his guyliner." That probably means that it'll look at least somewhat good.
Yuuji doesn't know what to do with himself. He's so excited over this, and it's probably something little. He's getting himself over excited and then all Megumi will end up saying is that Gojo didn't have time to tell him about a new mission, so Megumi had to instead.
But he had a feeling. A tiny, stirring feeling in the back of his mind. The possibility this was a confession. A confession that Megumi, indeed, did love him back. And then they can be boyfriends. And have a real first date.
Megumi prepared himself. The idea, the knowing that he'd confess to his long-term crush in approximately 15 minutes. He should really get going. What if Yuuji showed up early and he wasn't there? It would be so embarrassing he wouldn't be able to show his face for at least the next week.
With that idea in his mind, he slipped his shoes on and left. He had to keep reminding himself to breathe. He might pass out fron anxiety. He's tried to assure himself that Yuuji likes him back. But what if he didn't. What if he was just grabbing onto misleading clues that were all just one-offs. Very consistent one-offs.
His thoughts kept wandering into pessimistic territories on his walk to the courtyard. They always had a tendency to do that. Every other step there was a new thought, a new way that Yuuji would turn him down.
Once he made it to the big tree in the courtyard, he was in the final stretch. He hoped and prayed that Yuuji would assume he meant to show up here, not anywhere else in the courtyard that was way too big for how small their school was. They always met up here for things though, it would be fine. He pulled out his phone and checked the time; 1:55pm. He checked again; 1:56pm. Seconds were like minutes and minutes were like hours. Waiting felt like willingly signing himself up for being tortured.
Was he running late? Yuuji checked his phone. It was only 1:55pm. He still has time to throw on his coat and shoes, run out his door, and make it on time. Hopefully.
He wore his fuzzy black jacket with cat ears on the hood. He bought it as a joke, but suddenly after he bought it Megumi started talking about how cute he thought black cats were. He took that as a sign.
Checking his phone once again, he realized it was already 1:59pm. He rushed out the door before pushing his heel into his second shoe. Hopefully Megumi wouldn't be mad at him for being late.
Once he was out the door, it wasn't long until he found Megumi near the tree in the courtyard they always met at. This was it. Megumi was going to confess to him. If he didn't, what would he do?
Idea! He'd just confess first. If he just shoots his shot, there's a chance. A chance that there's a heart shaped space in Megumi's mind for him. A chance that their matching bracelets mean more than just being friendship bracelets.
"Hi Megumi!" He smiled and greeted with a hug. He never did that, but he thought that it would be fitting for this meeting. He watched Megumi's face turn bright red from the interaction, and from the heat rising in his face, he knew he was too.
"Hey Yuuji! Sorry for bothering you today, I know you usually sleep until now on a Saturday." He let out an awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of his head.
All Yuuji could think about is how pretty Megumi looks while smiling. How joy compliments he features. He deserves to always look like that. He thinks that's his only goal in life; to keep Megumi happy.
"It's fine, not like I have much to do. Hanging out with you is better than sleeping anyway." He fidgeted with his coat zipper, looking away from Megumi's face to avoid humiliating himself even more than he already has. "There aren't many things I'd rather do than hang out with you. That's if there are any at all."
"Me neither, you're the best thing in my life Yuuji. And to continue that-"
"Wait! I also have something to say. Can we say what we have to say at the same time?" Yuuji giggled from the stupidity of his interruption.
"Fine. On the count of 3?" Yuuji's giggle lightened the load of Megumi's pre-confession anxiety. His giggles felt like a breath of fresh air after being cooped up inside for days upon end.
Instead of regularly answering his question, he decides to start their countdown. The faster they get through it, the faster they become lovers. "3.."
"2.."
"1.."
"Can I be-"
"Your boyfriend?" Megumi finishes Yuuji's words in awe. So he does feel the same.
"Yes!! God yes!!" Yuuji exclaimed, almost in tears from his joy. If he thought again maybe that wasn't an almost, he was crying out of joy.
Megumi's heart beat and thoughts were both moving a mile a minute. He can't process this. He was so ready for him to say no, he didn't know what to do when he said yes.
That was until Yuuji figured it out for him. He ran into Megumi with a hug. "Can I kiss you? Maybe not out her though. Can we go back to your dorm? Mine's a little messy at the moment and-"
Megumi interrupted him with a peck on the cheek, giggling at the way he paused in his tracks. He could tell the nerves were getting to him from his choppy and fast-spoken sentances, so he stopped him in the best way could think of.
Megumi grabbed Yuuji's hand and dragged him behind him, leaving snow on the path from before Yuuji decided to use his feet. Megumi knew he could've stayed frozen standing there forever, and then he'd actually be frozen. Not the greatest thing to be. So Megumi did the next most rational thing; drag him until he didn't look like he was majorly late to the mannequin challenge.
Once Yuuji started actually walking again, making their way back to Megumi's dorm took much less effort. Each pace felt atleast 10 times faster, if it wasn't actually.
Megumi opened the door, locking it behind Yuuji. He kicked his shoes off, tossing his coat somewhere into his large glob of laundry sitting in front of his closet. He sat on his bed, motioning for Yuuji to come over as well.
Everything about this was unreal. He's really in a relationship? With THE Megumi Fushiguro. Yuuji might faint from lack of processing.
He sat himself comfortably next to Megumi on his bed, Yuuji's arm wrapping around his now lover's waist. He moved himself close enough that it felt like their legs might fuse and turn into one.
They sat in silence, Yuuji fond gazing harder than he ever had before. If it was a sport, he'd win. He'd never blink again if it meant he got to look a Megumi for longer.
Fond gazing turned into leaning in closer. Every inch made worlds of difference to them. The feeling of their breaths on each other, making themselves more apparent the closer they got.
"I've never done this before.." Yuuji admitted, trying to keep his focus.
"It's fine, I haven't either." Megumi's giggle and accompanying smile lightened the mood. If Megumi said it was fine, then Yuuji would believe him.
With a nod as an okay from Yuuji, they continued. Moving closer towards eachother. And closer. And closer. Until one of their lips were on the other's.
The kiss started light, growing sultry by the second. Yuuji grabbed the back of Megumi's neck, deepening their kiss. Megumi slipped his tongue into Yuuji's mouth.
Their intermingling of tongues went on for a while, ending with them lying next to each other on Megumi's bed, intertwined in one another. Yuuji laid his head on Megumi's chest. He spent his time listening to every little thud of his heart.
"Your hair looks nice down by the way," Yuuji mumbled softly, the vibrations of his voice traveling through Megumi's chest.
"Thanks.." Megumi flustered at the compliment. He was never good at taking them. "Your attempt at eyeliner makes you look cuter than you already do." He ruffled Yuuji's hair in affection.
"I'm tired.." Yuuji whined as he looked up at Megumi. His eyes pleading Megumi to join him in a nap.
"2pm was too early for you then? I should've known." Megumi greeted Yuuji's eyes with a gentle grin. "Nap?"
"Mhm." Yuuji nuzzled into Megumi's chest, and before he knew it he was asleep. Megumi was short to follow after kissing his boyfriend's forehead 'goodnight'. Their embrace upon eachother was tight enough to keep eachother from leaving for as long as eternity allowed.
