Chapter One
The daily routine

You were the kindest person some people have ever met.

You were good at pretending to be happy no one ever noticed, but he did. Aizawa has always been observant of his students, whether it was analyzing their quirks, seeing their growth, or if they were not feeling their best that day. He’s always seen through the bullshit persona that you put on at school. You were damn sure good at fooling your other peers though, the fake laughs, the sweet voice, your award winning disarming smile, wearing long sleeves in snow cone melting weather, or just being a call away when people need you.

At home it's never safe, you've always rathered fighting a villain 10 times stronger than you, than dealing with your alcoholic dad. You were in your room studying hero work when your intoxicated father stumbled into your house, you normally do your homework in the kitchen and you thanked god that you hadn't until you heard heavy uneven footsteps paint the halls. You flinch at the door flying open, your dad knocking some random things over.

“You try to hide from me huh? You think you can just run away just like your mother did?”

“I was just studying-”

Before you could even get a full sentence out he slapped you hard in the face, not hard enough to leave a mark that couldn't be covered with makeup, but damn sure hard enough
to knock you out of your chair. He looked down at you with disgust as you tried to collect your bearings.

“Get your ass up and do your fucking homework.”

“Y-Yes dad..”

You winced as you got up and sat in your seat, not daring to look at him as you listened to him slam the door shut and stumble to his room.

Chapter Two
The phone call

The morning was crisp and warm, you're gonna have to put more makeup on your face than usual. It's warm out, and you tend to sweat a lot. You get up and go to the bathroom, tears swelling up in your eyes as you look in the mirror. Why did this have to be you? What did you do to deserve this kind of life? You wipe your tears and do your makeup, brushing over your hair to be in your face on purpose.

You make it to your class, practicing your smile outside the classroom door so it doesn't hurt your face as much as it does already. Once you've finally got it, you take your homework out and walk inside the classroom. Wearing your happy and cheerful persona as you hand over your homework to Mr. Aizawa.

“Hey Mr. Aizawa! Finished my homework on time!”

“Good. Now go sit in your seat.”

You hurry off to your seat, sitting next to Iida as you do every day. Mr. Aizawa watches you closely, seeing the small cracks in your cheerful persona that you practiced outside your classroom. “Why, does it look like it hurts her? To smile?” He asks himself. He temporarily brushes it off and starts class.

A little bit after class Aizawa gave everyone a little card with their graded homework with a number on it, he glanced at you for a moment then looked away. Speaking to the class.

“The card you see pinned to your graded assignments is my emergency number, please call this number anytime if the authorities can't get to you in time, or if you don't want to call them at all.”

You take the card off your homework and stuff it into your bag, you didn't think you'd need to call it so there's no need to put it somewhere where you could grab it quickly.

You physically dread going home, already knowing what's waiting for you. You mentally prepare yourself for the beatings and degrading words that he's going to spew at you. You walk in, and you look around. No beer bottles, no trash on the ground, no angry loud drunk dad. You smile to yourself softly as you sit down at the kitchen counter and do your homework. You hear slight footsteps, but not the regular uneven steps that you usually hear. You watch the front door open and it's your dad, he's drunk but he doesn't look violent today.

“Dad..?”

“What do you want? Don’t fucking bother me”

Welp, that was that. You quickly look down at your homework, cursing yourself for making him irritated.

“You know, this shit is a waste of fucking money”

Uh oh, he's gonna start going on his random rants again, that always ends up in you getting hit.

“You think you're better than me? You going to this big important ivy league hero school? You know I wanted to be a hero, but I had to quit my dream and take care of you because your fucking whore of a mother wanted to run off to france with this french actor she’s been fucking behind my back.”

He speaks in present tense, as if your mother had just left, but she hasn't been here in years. He looks at you with pure hatred in his eyes. He then walked up to you doing your homework, you don't dare to move.

“This is all your fault. You were fucking mistake and you always will be.”

He points his beer bottle at the side of your head.

“Look at me”

You don’t move.

“I said to fucking look at me!”

He yells, his voice raspy and his breath smells like liquor. This is a dangerous game you're playing, you have no idea why but your body won't move.

“You wanna play these games?”

Out of nowhere you feel a sharp pain on the side of your head and you hear glass shattering. He smashed his beer bottle onto your head, covering you in booze. You frantically try wiping some warm substance out your eyes. That isn't beer, it's blood. It's spilling down your face and neck, and before you could even process what's happening he grabs you by the neck and throws you off of the chair you were sitting on.

You hit the ground hard, the beer making the gash in your head sting. You frantically run to your room, with your hands shaking you lock your door. You flinch at the sound of him yelling and screaming about it being your fault that your mother ran out on you both. Without thinking you grab your bag and rummage through it to find the card with Aizawa’s number on it. You're shaking and crying with your hands, neck, and face covered with blood and beer.
When you finally manage to dial the number, you run and lock yourself into your closet. Your dad is banging on your door and you pray that Aizawa answers the phone. The phone rings only two times before Aizawa answers the phone, sleep is laced throughout his voice but he spoke to you in a serious and quick tone.

“Where are you?”

You're choking on your words and crying, trying not to pass out from the blood and your nerves. You struggle to breathe but you finally manage to tell him where you are. He hangs up and about three minutes pass before you hear loud shouting and things being thrown around.

You hear footsteps, you're thinking the worst. Maybe your dad went crazy and killed him, or he just didn't come. You don’t know why but you pray to yourself that you live. The closet door opens and it's Aizawa.

“Pack your things”

“H-He’s gonna kill me if I-”

“He won't ever touch you again.”

You don’t know why, but you somehow believe him. You get up and you wobble towards your bag and start packing. Clothes, Your UA uniform, Electronics, and some other necessities.

You and Aizawa make it to his apartment.

“First aid is in the bathroom under the sink.”

You walk into the bathroom and turn on the sink, water pours out from the tap. You turn to your left and you see him next to you. You don't know why, but you didn't expect him to follow you inside. You look at him slightly confused before washing the blood off your hands.

“Do you need help?”

“Yes, please. But you don’t have-”

“I want to.”

He cleans you up and puts bandages on you where you need them.

“Thank you, Mr. Aizawa.”

“I'm going to make you a pretty late dinner. Take a shower. You smell like booze.”

Mr. Aizawa was always blunt, but this one kinda stung.

“Right..! Sorry..”

Aizawa leaves the bathroom, you shower and get dressed in clean pajamas. You walk down the hall and you go into the kitchen where you see Aizawa plate curry and rice into a bowl.

“Perfect timing. Come sit.”

You sit down at the counter and look down at the bowl of food, remembering how your dad used to make you curry and rice when you were sad. Before you could notice, tears started spilling down your face. Aizawa doesn't say anything, he just stares at you. He doesn’t ask you questions, he doesn't pry, he doesn't even make noise but he’ll sit and listen.

“My dad used to make this for me.. When I was sad about the rainy days, and I couldn't go out and play. He’d sing to me.. A rainy day song.”

You wipe your tears with the back of your hands, your tears making the small scuffs and cuts on your hands from breaking your fall sting.

“I don't know how to comfort emotional teenage girls, but I do know how to listen”

“You're alright. I just needed to get that out.”

He looks at you, with tired eyes and something else behind his eyes that you can't quite name yet.

“So, how long am I staying here?”

“For however long you like.”

“Wheres my dad…?

“I’m gonna be honest with you, he’s at Kenji Tsuragamae’s police department.”

“I won’t be seeing him for a while..”

“I don't think ever. That was child abuse. No one gets out of that.”

“Right…”

You look down at your untouched bowl of food, somehow suddenly sick to your stomach.

“Im, gonna head to bed.”

“Okay, I'll put your food away”

“Thanks”

You go to the guest room down the hall, all your things are neatly placed by the bed. You climb up and lay down staring at the ceiling, drowning in your own thoughts before drifting off to sleep.

Chapter Three
Unspoken words

You're trying to scream, your father is looking at you in pure disgust. He wrapped his hands around your neck and squeezed. All you could see were your past mistakes, failures, everything that led you up to here, this moment. You shoot up abruptly, in a cold sweat you clutch your chest where your heart is. Trying to catch your breath Mr. Aizawa walks into the guest room.

“You alright? You don’t have to go to classes today.”

“I’m fine. No.. I should go.”

“Alright then. Hurry and get ready”

You get up and change into your school uniform, making sure the sleeves are all the way down. When you finish you go to the bathroom, staring at yourself in the mirror. You're disappointed, you look horrible. You have visible eye bags, there's faint scars and marks painted across your face, and you have bruises and cuts on your hands and arms. “Should I even go?” you ask yourself. You try practicing your smile in the mirror, the one that doesn't quite reach your eyes. Then you feel someone's presence.

“Is this what you’ve been doing before going to class?”

You look at him, slightly startled by his presence.

“No..”

“Okay then.”

He didn’t pry, why would he? You just went through the most traumatic thing in your life yesterday.

You both get to UA and you enter the classroom, wearing that same smile that you practiced in the mirror. You really didn’t have a personal relationship with many of your classmates at UA but you did want to have one with Iida. Tenya Iida, basically head of 1-A. You’ve always admired him, you loved talking to him, even though you only had a few conversations with him it still made your heart flutter. Well you should probably avoid him today, you look horrible.

“Y/N, make sure you hand in your homework! It’s important to hand it in on time, we are UA students and-”

Well there goes avoiding him.

“Sorry, I’ll hand it in.”

You said keeping your head down, your cheeks hurt from smiling and your head still hurts from last night. All you can think about is your appearance, you didn't have a chance with him anyway but you at least didn't wanna leave a bad impression.

“Y/N? Did you injure your head?”

You freeze. What? Did Mr. Aizawa say something? No way he could've. Wait, is the scar visible?

“No.”

You just turn away, you go to your seat. That would be embarrassing to explain. You got abused by your dad for years and you wanna be a hero? Yeah right. People would think you're pathetic.

He just stares at you for a moment then the bell rings, he quickly sits in his seat with perfect posture and looks ahead. Mr. Aizawa steps forward and it looks like he has an announcement.

“Alright everyone settle down.”

He sighs and looks at everyone.

“I wanted to do this differently but All Might, Principal Nezu, and I emailed and spoke to =-all of your parents. You all will be moving into dorms this week, it has to do with something I will not be disclosing with you all.”

You look at him in distress. What? Why? What about your dad?

Class ends and everyone is talking about how excited they are about the dorms, especially Mineta.

“Y/N, come visit me for a moment.”

You nod and pick up your bag, he waits for everyone to leave and leans on his desk with his arms crossed.

“You needed me to come talk to you?”

“That would be correct. I want to talk to you about last night.”

You keep your head low.

“Right..”

“You will not be having a dorm just yet, because we can't ask for permission from your father at this moment. You will continue to stay with me.

“What about my dad? Why can't I stay with him when he gets back?”

“Y/N. You can't stay there.”

You look at him with confusion, fear, and something else you can't name. Why can't you go back home? He was violent, sure, but that's still your dad.

“What? Why cant I-”

He cuts you off, a slight tinge of anger in his serious tone.

“He hits you Y/N. Coldheartedly, he puts his hands on you.”

“Its not his fault.”

“Then whose fault is it?

Silence. You didn't know who to blame, at one point you blamed yourself. You don't know why you kept protecting your dad. Maybe it was because you loved him, because you thought what he did was normal, or maybe because he's all you have.

“You need to understand something Y/N. What he was doing was abuse, I am your teacher and I legally, and whole heartedly will never let you go through that ever again. Not on my watch, not ever.”

You start to tear up, your voice starts to tremble and your hands start to shake.

“He's all I have..”

“Not anymore. You have me, you have your other teachers, and you have your friends here at UA.”

“But I don’t want that! I want my dad! I don't even have any friends here..! And- H-He’s the only family I have and you're going to take that away from me?”

“Y/N, I’m worried about you. You are willing to constantly get hurt to live with your dad?”

You think, are you? You miss your dad but not this one. You miss the one before, the one that would make your curry when you were sad, the one who would sing to you, play with you, take you to school, the one that helped you train for UA. Not the one that discovered alcohol, not the one who blamed you for your mom leaving you both, not the one who would hit you to get his anger out.

“No.. I’m not..”

“I’ll take you to the police department after school today. So you can see him and talk to him.’

“Really?”

“Yes, now head to your next class.”

After school comes faster than you think. Do you even want to see him? Not gonna lie, you're scared, is he gonna get angry while you guys talk and hit you? Will he be mean to you again? You just want your dad back. You and Mr. Aizawa drove to the police department. Your nerves start jumping around, you were fine in the car, what happened?

A little time passes and Naomasa Tsukauchi comes up to you and Mr. Aizawa. Tsukauchi notices the scars, marks, and faint bruises on your face and hands but doesn't mention it.

“Well hello Mr. Aizawa! And this young hero might be?”

“Tsukauchi, This is Y/N. We wanted to see if we could visit someone you have here under custody.”

Tsukauchi gives Aizawa a knowing look that they thought you couldn't see.

“Oh, well there's only one person here that came in last night, is that who you wanted to see?”

“That would be correct.”

“Alrighty then, he's in room 13. I'll bring you guys there.”

You, Tsukauchi, and Mr. Aizawa made it to a cell. Believe it or not it kind of looks like an interrogation room with a big one way mirror. Did they move him so they could hear and watch the conversation from the outside?

You walk in, you're nervous. You see him sitting in a chair, his arms resting on a table. He looks horrible, maybe worse than you. Eye bags, dry skin, pale, but not violent. He looks like your dad, but he doesn't feel like him. When you walk in and stand by the table his eyes light up.

“Dad..?”

“Y/N..”

He stands up abruptly and walks up to you, wrapping his arms around you in an embrace. You look up at him with a little fear in your eyes.

“Dad, how.. how have you been?”

He backs up, placing his hands on your face. You flinch. He sees that and lets his hands fall to his sides.

“Not the best.. but better now that you're here.. I missed you”

“Me.. too.”

“Look, I’m sorry.. I’m gonna get better once I’m out here okay?”

For some reason, you don't believe him. You want to, but you don't.

“Alright, now go out there and tell them you want me to come home.”

“Dad.. I can't tell them that, even if I did they wouldn’t do that.”

“Why? What did you tell them?”

“I didn't tell them anything, My teacher said-”

You couldn't finish your sentence, you never do. He slapped you, slapped you hard. Your cheek starts to burn up. Mr. Aizawa and Tsukauchi rush in. Tsukauchi puts your father in cuffs while your father is screaming obscenities. Mr. Aizawa pushes you behind him as he watches Tsukauchi transport him to another room, probably another cell.

Aizawa turns to you, you know he heard everything but he still doesn't say anything. You look up at him and just cry.

“Why is he like this? Why doesn't he love me anymore? Why won’t he just go back to how he was before.”

He still doesn’t say anything, Aizawa looks down at you and gives you a hug. He’s surprisingly warm. You squeeze your eyes shut and pretend, pretend that the person hugging you is your dad, not Aizawa.

“I’m sorry Y/N.”

That's all he says. What is there more to say?

Chapter Four
You can’t replace him

It's been 4 months, you are still living with Mr. Aizawa at the moment and you're not doing the best mentally. You and Aizawa don’t talk much in his apartment. He tries to make conversation though.

You're depressed, no need to sugar coat it, you are. Mr. Aizawa picked up on the signs but he didn’t want to try and overstep. You were hungry, shocker, you've been starving yourself for weeks. So you went into the kitchen, there was Mr. Aizawa.

“Yaoyorozu told me that she's hosting a pool party in her new indoor pool she's been raving about, the whole class is supposed to be there. You should go.”

“No thanks.. I don’t want people seeing me half naked. Especially Mineta..”

“You don't have to go in a bathing suit, it might be fun for you to hang out with your friends.”

He’s right, but you’d rather stay in your bed and sulk for the rest of the afternoon. Why is he trying to talk to you anyway? He’s your teacher. Why would he care about your personal life?

“I don't have friends, I don’t wanna go”

“Okay then.”

You suddenly lose your appetite, so you turn to leave.

“When was the last time you ate something Y/N?”

His voice was gruff and laced with exhaustion, but not towards you. You turn to him and lie, you're pretty good at it, but not with him.

“A few hours ago.”

“Don’t lie to me Y/N.”

“I’m not.”

He stares at you, disappointed? No, worried? Yeah but he wont show it.

“I’m not your father.”

“You’re not.”

You cut him off, already knowing how this conversation is going to go. You miss your dad, you won’t admit it, but you really do. Who knew losing someone that hurt you, hurt so badly?

“I’m worried about you Y/N. I’m really worried, not as Mr. Aizawa, not as your homeroom teacher. As your guardian.”

You stared at him. Those were words you never thought would come out his mouth. You didn't know how to feel, you didn't even know if you wanted to feel anything. You just went to your room, like you always do when you don’t feel like confronting something.

A few hours pass, you're on the floor with tears in your eyes. This is ironic isn’t it? You know what you're about to do, yet you know you’ll act surprised. You’ve been thinking about this forever, so why are your hands shaking? You look at the box cutter in your hand, clenching your fist as you swipe. An immediate rush of relief rushes over you, like all the tension inside you lifted, but it was temporary. A sharp jolt of pain shot up your wrist.

“Shit.. its getting everywhere”

You look down at your arm like it's not yours, like it doesn’t belong to you anymore. Did it ever belong to you? You hurry up and clean your wrist and wrap it in medical bandages and pull your hoodie sleeves down. Did you really just do that? Why did it feel so good? You don’t know what to think anymore. You clean up the floor, throwing the bloody tissues in your bedroom trash can. You hear heavy footsteps, a violent rush of adrenaline rushes through your veins. You run into the corner of the room and tuck your knees to your chest.

“He’s mad at me.. He's gonna get me.. It’s all my fault.”

You whisper to yourself trying to regulate your breathing. Aizawa knocks on your door then you start to cry.

“Y/N? You alright?”

You don't answer, you can't. You start struggling to breathe and you start shaking.

“I’m coming in Y/N.”

He opens the door and sees you, he rushes over to you and gently grabs your wrist to steady you. You wince in pain and he immediately lets go. “No.. you couldn’t have..” he thinks to himself and looks down at you.

Once your panic attack subsided you look up at him clutching your wrist.

“Y/N you know what I’m about to ask..”

You look at him with a guilty expression.

“I thought you were my dad.. again.”

“I know, you've been getting these panic attacks for a while. You know that’s not what I mean. Are you..”

He gestures to your wrist, you know you can't lie to him. He would just ask you to show him.

“Yeah, I am..”

He’s.. frowning? That's the most emotion you've ever seen on his face ever.. and you live with the guy.

“Let me see.”

There was no room for debate, he was going to see one way or another. You slowly roll up your sleeves from your hoodie and show it to him, the bandages being soaked through.

“Why would you do something like this? Y/N, Your bandages are soaked with blood. Get up.”

He pulled you up and brought you to the bathroom to clean you up. For some reason, you wish that he was your dad, why would you think that while he's literally cleaning up your self harm wounds? No idea, but you had to let that thought slip through.

“I’m sorry..”

Silence, is there much to say? He continues to clean up your wounds, hands gentle, and never wanting to hurt you.

“Please talk to me when you're feeling like this. I know you've been through a lot, but there's people that are here for you.”

“I know..”

“Do you?”

“I do..”

“Let me help you, please.”

You look at him, the words escaping your mouth before you could even stop yourself, you're about to ruin everything and you know it.

“You're not my dad. So stop trying to replace him.. Just because he's in jail doesn't mean I could just forget about him. You’ll never be anything more than my teacher and my temporary guardian.”

He gently drops your wrist after properly bandaging it. He looks away from you without saying a word. Your heart drops at the disappointed look that he makes to himself. You shouldn't have said that, he's done so much for you and you're being an idiot.

“I understand.”

Aizawa stands up and leaves you there, maybe leaving you alone will help. You feel like a huge ass and you want to apologize but he walked away. Was there something that he wasn’t telling you? Why did he look so disappointed? How can you fix this?

A few hours pass and you're in your room. It’s pretty late but you decide to get up and get a drink. You walk down the hall and hear Mr. Aizawa talking to someone on the phone. You shouldn’t eavesdrop, but you heard your name.

“I don't know Yamada, you should've heard what she said to me today, that's not an angsty teen comment. She's still hurting, and she has every right to do so.”

Now you feel like an even bigger ass. You look over, your eyes landing on a weird colored folder with some company on the front. “What is that?” you ask yourself.

“I don't know why I feel so protective over her, like.. I see her as my own you know? I don't think she's ready for what I’m about to tell her about her dad either.”

Your heart drops, what? What's wrong with your dad?

“Tell me, what about my dad?

He turns around, not expecting you there.

“I’ve gotta go Yamada, I'll call you back.”

“What’s wrong with my dad?”

“Y/N, I wanted to tell you sooner..”

“Just tell me.”

“The police department has been overflowing with villains lately since All Might’s retirement, so your father is going to a villain based prison on the other side of Japan."

“What..? Why?! Do you know what they'll do to him?!”

“So, you won't be able to see him until his sentence is over.”

“How much time was his sentence?!”

“15 to 20 years..”

Your stomach starts to turn, but do you feel bad? No, but he's your dad. Why do you feel so protective over someone that will never feel the same way about you again?

“What is that folder for?”

He looks away and picks it up.

“Nothing, just things for work. Y/N, I’m here for you. Even if you don't want it, I’ll still be here for you.”

“Thanks..”

You knew what that folder was for but you just didn't say anything about it. You didn't want to assume.

Chapter Five
Coping

Classes, after school clubs, home, repeat. It’s been 6 months now and you feel the same, there's so much yet so little things to do. You know that you’ll stay in this depressive episode if you don’t do anything, you’ve been forgetting to eat again. What can you do to cope?

You're in class, only a few more minutes to the bell and for some reason you can't seem to focus. You're getting sweaty and your hands are shaking, you feel like everyone is staring at you but your vision is getting blurry and it looks like no one has faces. You look down at your hands shaking and try to breathe but your breaths are uneven and short. Iida looks over and taps your desk, you violently jump and look at him, fear in your eyes.

“My apologies Y/N.. Are you okay?”

You don’t answer, it's not like you can. You thought you were over this but you guess not, your throat feels tight and you feel like you’re going to pass out. Aizawa sees this and rushes over to you.

“Y/N. Come on, breathe for me.”

You clutch your collar and tear the buttons loose, everything around your neck feels like death. You suck in a sharp breath, and you feel like your lungs are 10 times lighter.

“I.. I need to go..”

“That’s okay, class is about to end, go visit Yamada in the teachers lounge.”

You pick up your bag and head out the door.

“Iida, make sure she makes it to the teachers lounge.”

Iida stands up with perfect posture and nods like he just gave him the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Yes Mr. Aizawa.”

He stands up from his desk and follows you out of the classroom. Eventually catching up to you.

“Y/N! Wait up, are you alright? You looked like you were about to pass out back there.”

Great, the whole class just watched you have a panic episode and now your crush is walking you to the teachers lounge. Just embarrassing. You look horrible, you feel horrible, and now he definitely thinks you're crazy.

“I’m fine.”

“Right…”

You walk into the teachers lounge with Iida and you see Present Mic.

“You can leave now Iida..”

“Are you sure Y/N?”

“Yeah..”

Iida leaves and you kinda feel bad but you don’t care about that right now. You turn to Present Mic and he's already standing next to you, loud as ever. You wince slightly with the huge headache you have right now, with his usual loud nature.

“Y/N! Aizawa told me about you! Are you doing alright?”

“I’d be better if you weren't screaming..”

“Sorry Y/N!”

You sit down in one of the chairs and Mr. Aizawa walks in. You turn over and you see him walking over to you, looking a bit frantic?

“Hey, you okay?”

“Yeah I’m fine..”

He looks at you, actually worried. Why? After all the shit you pulled in the time you've been living with him? You push everyone away, even Iida and you really like him.

“It looked like you had a panic attack in there.”

“Well what do you think?”

You paused for a little bit, you felt bad, he's done so much for you and you continue to be mean to him.

“I’m sorry, I'm just stressed.”

Aizawa opens his mouth to speak.

“I know.”

He paused.

“Can I please, say something?”

You nod.

“I just want you to accept me, and I may be selfish for asking this of you. Especially now, but what can I do to make you feel better?

You stop for a moment, what can he do?

“I-I don't know.. I’m just grieving.”

“Grieving..?

“My father, grieving someone that is still alive hurts two times as much as somebody who's dead.”

Aizawa nodded, Yamada spectates this heavy topic, and you have a feeling that this conversation is going to go left. Yamada opens his mouth and speaks.

“How about we put a pin in this conversation, this something that we have at home. So how about you two have this there?”

You don't fight this, you storm out and head out to start walking home. You don't wait for Aizawa, needing to blow off some steam.

Chapter Six
Bad news or good news?

You had gotten “home” way before Aizawa, he had patrols anyway so he shouldn't be back until 1 or 2 am. You had already done your homework, you had gotten a workout in, you showered, and you changed into your comfy pajamas. You suddenly thought to yourself and wondered what your classmates were doing, what Iida was doing. You really wanted to go into dorms too but you still haven't gotten permission from your dad.

Speaking of your father, you wonder how he's doing. Is he thinking about you? Does he talk to people about you? Does he even love you? You suddenly start to feel bad for Mr. Aizawa, all he's ever done for you is help you and you’ve been a complete ass. Then you start to miss him. Wait, what? You didn’t mean that, you just wonder what he’s doing.

You look at the clock and you see it says it’s 12:47 am. You feel lonely, and maybe Mr. Aizawa’s company wasn't as bad as you made it to be. About 10 more minutes of you thinking quietly in your room pass and you hear the front door open and beep like normal. Something in you snapped and without thinking you ran out of your room, you ran down the hall, passed the bathroom, and ran straight into Aizawa’s arms.

Aizawa froze, not expecting you to do that, he hadn't even gotten his work things off before you wrapped your arms around him tight, he slowly wrapped his arms around you. You almost don't believe that he’s hugging you. A spark of warmth spreads through his chest. He then hesitantly opens his mouth to speak.

“Are you okay? What has gotten into you?”

You pause, realizing what you’re doing and abruptly back up. You nervously start to ramble on.

“I’m sorry, I don't know.. I didn't- I won't do it again.”

“No, I have no problem with that. It just caught me off guard. Don’t be shy to give me a hug or two.”

“Uh, Okay.”

Aiazawa put his binding scarf on the couche, he kicked off his boots, and then he tied his hair up. His serious expression returns to his face as he goes into the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water and then poured you one, he gestured for you to sit. You nervously sit down by the kitchen counter and you look at him. He flicks the kitchen light on, carefully places an envelope, a folder, and a pen on the kitchen counter. You frantically speak.

“What is all this stuff?”

Aizawa took a deep breath, you could tell that this was serious just off of the way he did that. He looked down at you with a slight somber, serious, and tired expression. He didn't know how to break this news to you, so he’s just going to let you read it on your own. He speaks in his normal, tired, and low tone.

“That envelope is a letter from your father, read that first before you open the folder.”

Your heart drops, you have no idea why, but your hands start to lightly shake, your whole body trembles, your breathing is uneven, but you reach for the white envelope. You gently rip open the letter, and pull out a piece of paper. Your fathers handwriting, you remember when you saw this same handwriting in your lunch boxes in middle school, the same handwriting on the fringe’s whiteboard to remind you to do your homework, the same handwriting that would sign your repost cards.

You read the first few words and your hands start to sweat. You read the letter out loud.

“My beautiful, talented, and smart daughter. The first thing I want to say is that I’m terribly sorry for the negative things that I’ve said to you these past few years. I'm sorry for hitting and abusing you, and you have no idea how much I love you. So much so that I gave my custody over you up.”

Your voice cracks, tears brimming up in your eyes, threatening to stream down your face like a waterfall. You continue to read.
“Now please don't think that I’m abandoning you, that I hate you, or that I don't love you. I’m simply doing what is best for you and unfortunately I’m not good for you. Alcohol ruined me, and It’s going to take me a long time before I’m going to be like my old self. There are no amount of words I could write to make the damage that I did to you disappear, but know that I’m sorry. I love you, I believe in you, chase your dreams, please don't chase me.”

The tears roll down your face, Aizawa walks over to give you a hug. You cry into his shoulder knowing that this is what’s best for you, but it still hurts. You back up and quietly speak.”

“So what does this mean for me? Am I an orphan?”

“Open this.”

Aizawa slides the blue folder over to you. You open the folder and see adoption papers, everything is filled out but your signature. You feel like your heart is beating 1,000 miles per hour, you pick up the pen and hesitantly hover over the paper. You start to talk.

“Are you sure that you want to adopt me? I mean, I’ve been really mean to you.. and. I don’t deserve to be adopted by anyone-”

“Don’t say that, ever. Why would you say that? You deserve to be happy. You were hurting, you still are, but please. Let me adopt you, I don't regret these past 6 months with you. I see you as my daughter. Let me make that official.”

You start to sob, you sloppily scribble your signature on the paper and hug him tight. You used to think to yourself “How can I save others, if I can't even save myself?” Now this is you saving yourself. You deserve this.
