like a girl

Summary:

Jake didn’t mind being a guy, no qualms there -- that much he knew of, but sometimes, just sometimes -- he also didn’t mind feeling like a girl. And that was normal, right?

Or: Jake finds out that being both is an option.

Notes:

Your honor I love them. (in my head jajaiden is established in this au but James isn't here because he has an acting gig. James would be 1000% supportive!!) Jake being a bigender/genderfluid gay guy is so real to me <3

Gifting this to the bestie Alastair because the idea would not escape my mind until I wrote it <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jake didn’t mind being a guy, no qualms there -- that much he knew of, but sometimes, just sometimes -- he also didn’t mind feeling like a girl. And that was normal, right?

Like, just because he felt something warm deep within his chest when he was referred to in a more feminine way didn’t mean anything. He also liked it when he was referred to in a masculine way, too. There’s nothing uniquely special about it.

Deep in thought, he played with his hair, a melancholy expression on his face as he lay on the couch cushion.

“Jake.” Aiden said in a warm voice as he walked up to the couch, noticing Jake’s face.

“Gah!” Jake yelped, taking the hair out of his hands, like he had been caught stealing a cookie from the cookie jar. “Sorry, just, didn’t know you were gonna scare me like that.” he giggled

Aiden just smiled and joined him on the couch, laying up against him. “Babe,” he started - “I can tell when you’re lost in thought. You can talk to me.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. It’s just…” It was a little hard to open up, it still didn’t feel real to have a boyfriend who cared so much, who loved him so much. “Um, you’re trans.”

“Yes?” Aiden raised an eyebrow and cuddled against him. Absent mindedly putting his hands through Jake’s locks of hair.

“It’s um. Is it normal for other people to feel like a girl? But also not hate being a guy?” Jake paused. “Sorry, this is probably really stupid.”

“No, it’s not stupid. You came to the right guy!” He said in a silly tone as Aiden pulled him closer. “But seriously, Jake, I don’t want to say anything definitive - but.. You can be both. That’s totally fine.”

Oh. The thought hadn’t really crossed his mind. But now that he considered it - that was basically it. “And… that’d be okay?” Jake asked.

“I’d love you all the same.” Aiden said, pressing a kiss against Jake’s cheek.

“Stop, you’ll make me blush.” Jake giggled, cupping Aiden’s face.

“It’s what I was born to do.” Aiden paused, a smirk falling across his face, “you know you’ll be my girl forever.”

Jake flustered, her cheeks burning up - before she pulled Aiden’s face towards him, holding his face softly.

“So you like that nickname, I’ll take note of that.” Aiden giggled, pressing a soft kiss onto Jake’s lips.

“Oh, shut up.” Jake responded, before tackling Aiden into a longer kiss.
