Work Text:
Brian parks the car and turns the key, turning the engine off. The quiet of the night contrasts the loud sound of the engine. You can hear the crickets in the grass, chirping over the summer breeze. You take in the view, noticing the large patch of grass and nearby pond. A tree resides in front of the pond; a swing dangling from one of its large branches. Brian looks at you warmly as he wraps his arm around your shoulder. You look back at him in curiosity. “Why are we here?” you ask.
Brian flashes you a mischievous smile before saying, “You’ll see!” He pulls away from you to open his door. He turns back around to say, “Stay put.” You watch as he gets out of the car and walks behind it. He opens the trunk and while you can’t see him, you can definitely hear him pull a few items out before shutting the trunk. He makes his way around the car and walks off into the clearing. He sets his stuff down on the grass, before picking up a blanket and attempting to lay it out underneath the tree. On his first attempt, it gets folded under itself. He tries again, and the wind picks it up and contorts it. Finally, he throws it on the ground and gets down on his hands and knees to flatten it out perfectly. He glances up nervously, hoping you didn’t see the ordeal. He gives you a tight smile before looking back down in embarrassment and unfolding the last corner. He reaches over to pick up the wicker basket and places it in the center of the blanket.
Brian stands up and makes his way over to you. He opens your door and grabs your hand, kissing it. You get out of the car and he closes the door after you. “After you, sir.” he says, gesturing to the blanket. You sit down and he follows not far after. He grabs the basket and opens it, pulling out two sandwiches, a bag of chips, and a fruit pie.
“I know how much you love my mom’s pie, so I asked for her recipe so I could make it for you, but she insisted I needed help? So she helped me make it. I hope you like it. This is your favorite right? Because I thought this was your favorite but as we were making it i started having doubts and-“
You cut him off. “Bri!” You gave him a look. “It’s perfect. Thank you. You really didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”
“Yes I did!” he protests. He looks down in embarrassment, fidgeting with the hem of the blanket beside him.“You’re so wonderful. I just, I needed this date to be equally wonderful. I- I really like you and I don’t want to mess anything up but now I feel-“
“Brian!” You shout, cutting him off again. You grab his face to make him look at you. Your touch is firm but loving, and Brian’s rosy cheeks are hot to the touch. Without thinking, you kiss him on the lips to shut him up permanently. You pull back, maintaining eye contact. You lovingly rub your thumb on his cheek. Brian is speechless.
“I think you’re so wonderful. I really do.” You tell him. “This date is so wonderful.”
You kiss every freckle on Brian’s face, covering it in kisses. He smiles back at you like a madman. You press your lips to his once again.
“I love you Bri.”
“I love you too, darlin’.”
