Work Text:
Vox nervously twiddled his thumbs as Alastor took a swig of gin. Blushing, Vox turned away. His face filled with static as Alastor leaned back into the brand new couch.
“Well?” Vox asked.
“Hm?” Alastor asked.
The white leather couch was embroidered with golden pins that went up the sides of it. Vox nervously fiddled with one of them as Alastor glanced around the newly furnished V tower.
“I mean, what do you think of it? The place I mean?”
“Oh, it’s charming. I’m sure, to the right kind of person,” he said.
Vox nervously chuckled and leaned forward against his own thighs. He felt his vision getting a bit blurred.
“It’s what’s popular on Earth right now, apparently, according to Val…”
“Who?” Alastor asked.
“Oh, um, nobody, just an associate. Nobody important. I mean not like we are,” he said.
“Hm. It’s a bit – what’s the word?”
“New?”
“Tacky,” Alastor said.
“Oh. I guess that’s what the kids like these days.”
“Kids?” Alastor said, clearly amused.
Vox laughed nervously and turned his eyes down towards the newly installed brown carpet.
“Did I say something funny?”
“Quite the contrary, it’s just to some you might be considered a kid. We died two decades apart Vincent, or have you forgotten?”
“I – uh..” Vox blushed, “no, no I remember everything, even to the day…”
Alastor grew very silent.
“Is that – weird?”
“Not really. I’m used to it,” he said, “so did you invite me over to talk about the furniture or did you have something else you wanted to talk about?”
“Well, uh, you see Al…um,” Vox stumbled over his words.
“Something about your business?” Alastor asked as though he was playing twenty questions. Vox started to blush harder.
“Uh. Yeah. Business. I have a proposition for you,” Vox said.
“Okay, I’m listening,” he said.
He didn’t seem like he was listening, but Vox knew better than that. Alastor was always listening, even when he seemed like he wasn’t. Suddenly the door burst open and Valentino sashayed in. He exhaled and smoke billowed into the room.
“Voxy where did you put my lighter I can’t find it – Oh! You didn’t tell me you had guests.”
Valentino turned the corner of the couch and blew smoke directly into Alastor’s face. His eyes twitched but his large beaming smile remained. Vox started glitching out but then regained his composure.
“I thought I told you to never call me that,” he said.
“Is this that Alastor guy you always talk about? You know he is kinda cute,” Val said.
“Val!” Vox exclaimed.
“What a charming fellow, is he always this pleasant to be around?” Alastor said.
“I bet I could make you a star. Creepy is all the rage now babe,” he said.
“Aha really! What about flesh eating, is that all the rage now, babe?” Alastor retorted.
“Vox, I’m starting to get the impression your partner doesn’t like me.”
“What ever gave you that impression dear?” Alastor asked.
“Partners?” Vox blushed, “we aren’t partners. Val, get lost.”
“I need my lighter—” Val said.
“Check. Your. Pocket.”
Valentino sighed and started digging around in his pockets.
“Do you really think I didn’t check my pockets before – Oh! Well shit, there it is.”
Vox rolled his eyes and hid his screen as Valentino walked towards the door.
“Sorry–”
“Shut the door please,” Vox said.
After the door shut, Vox sighed deeply.
“I’m sorry about that. He’s not the brightest bulb in the shed.”
“Uhuh. Look, as much as I love being harassed by your associates, I do have quite a busy schedule so if that was really it I’m afraid I’m going to have to go.”
“Wait!”
Vox grabbed his hand and froze. Alastor’s ears perked up as he looked down at Vox’s hand in his. Without thinking Vox pulled Alastor in for a hug. They stood there for a moment oddly. Alastor didn’t pull away, and an emboldened Vox gave him a quick kiss. It was like lightning and Vox’s face filled up with static as Alastor stood there without a change in expression. He put the glass down on the table and turned away.
“I’m sorry –” Vox started, “I just thought – I mean you didn’t correct Val when he –”
“What’s the matter, Vincent?” Alastor asked, his eyes twitching.
“No-I-wait-you realized that I kissed you right? That’s kind of a big deal,” he said.
“You? Kiss me? I don’t think so,” Alastor said, “now if you’ll excuse me, I have things to do.”
“Al–wait. Are we just going to pretend that didn’t happen? That was the most amazing – it felt amazing – are we just going to ignore it?”
Alastor paused before turning menacingly.
“If you ever touch me like that again Vincent, you’ll be the one screaming on my broadcast, do you understand?”
Vox anxiously nodded, “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
“What won’t happen again?”
“...nothing…”
“Good. Now I’ve got business of my own to attend to, so I’ll just see myself out then?”
“...yeah it’s probably best.”
“Don’t be so grim Vincent, it’s quite a nice little set up you have here, for someone with your tastes of course. Anyways, I’ve overstayed my welcome. I’ll see you next time. Farewell.”
