Work Text:
When Connie finally managed to isolate herself from the rest of the halloween toons, it was already late at night.
Connie, does not really like being around others. Too loud, too pushy. She didn't like talking to others.
She finds herself drawn to the library. Sure, she doesn't do reading all that much, but the library was quiet. She knew that.
So she goes in. You wouldn't expect her in the library, which is what she wants. And what luck! Its empty!
She randomly grabs a book off the shelf and looks at the cover.
"...One Hundred and One Practical Pranks..." She reads it out loud. That might be interesting.
She goes to the top of the bookshelf, where it's unlikely someone would look, and opens the book.
Its a while before she noticed someone went in. She instinctively ducked, but curiosity drove her to peep out.
"Brightney, are you really going to stay out here in the library? You could help me solve the case and find Connie..."
"Rodger, don't worry about me! I just want to stay here and rest, okay?"
"Okay then..."
When Connie heard her name, she almost gasped, but managed to keep her mouth shut. But when the door slammed close, she dropped the book she was holding and it fell over the edge of the bookshelf.
Down it went.
(Thud.)
Brightney turned around, and saw the book lying on the floor. Her gaze traveled up, and she saw Connie.
They stood there, looking at each other, for what seemed like hours.
Brightney inhaled sharply, and spoke.
"Uhm, hello-"
"EEP!" And with that, Connie burst into a bunch of smoke and disappeared.
"No, no, wait, I wont tell Rodger if you don't want me to!"
"You're going to tell everyone else though!!"
"No I wont!"
Connie paused her "trying to escape" plan. "...You wont?"
"Yes, I wont. If that is what you wish."
Connie peered suspiciously into Brightney's face for any sign of untruthfulness, but only saw a tired but well-meaning smile.
"...Okay..."
And so Connie stayed. Brightney picked up the book on the ground and gave it back to her.
"T-Thank you..." Connie suddenly didn't know where to look, fidgeting with the pages of the book.
"No worries! I'll be over there if you need me." And she walked over to one of the chairs in the room, getting a book of her own before that.
"(...This toon isn't so bad... She isn't pushy, and she isn't loud... And she wont tell the rest where I am...)" She giggled softly to herself.
Maybe it wasn't so bad talking to someone like her.
