Caltrop stood at the sight before him.
It was a grave.
Specifically, the grave of his late-partner, Dollmaker.
The two had been dating for multiple years.Hell, Caltrop even planned to PROPOSE to her.
But that was before the scorch ripped EVERYTHING from them.
Dollmaker had joined the church, and Caltrop had stayed with the wranglers, leaving the two separated.
Lately he found out something, something that shouldn’t have broken his heart, but did.
Dollmaker had died.
Even the amount of burns on her couldn’t stop her body from caving in on itself and causing her passing.
He found her body lying in a forest one night and decided to bury her himself.
He doesn’t know if, no, WHY he should love her again.
But yet he found himself shoving dirt and making a makeshift grave for her.
Of course, with the wranglers shortage of supplies it couldn’t be anything fancy, but, still, he tried.
He marked her grave with multiple rocks and, directly below them the words
Rest in peace
Dollmaker
A beloved partner and parent.
Caltrop knew that she probably deserved better but he couldn’t give her that.
He hated the church with all his being, but as he turned away and gave the makeshift grave one final glance, he spoke to himself.
“Maybe in another life we can finally have the marriage I promised I’d give you.”
