Chapter Text
#Loop 1
Subaru had done it.
Not only had he managed to save everyone, he could finally call Emilia his wife and Rem his second wife. Together with his friends and lovers by his side, he ushered in a new age of prosperity and innovation for Lugunica itself.
There was only one regret he carried.
In all his power, he could not save the court mage from his obsession with his teacher.
Oppositely, Roswaal L. Mathers was having one of the worst days of his life.
Plans he had spent literal centuries cultivating, gone. Reduced to nothing by a single raven-haired anomaly. With his Gospel destroyed and no heir to continue his will, Roswaal was a dead man walking. His goals never came to fruition. He could not revive his beloved teacher, nor could he kill the Dragon.
Any plan he attempted was inevitably thwarted by the King,by Lugunica’s army or by the Sword Saint usually a mixture of all three. Eventually, the King, growing sick and tired of Roswaal’s schemes, placed him under permanent house arrest.
Now secluded and alone, save for the occasional visit from Ram, Roswaal waited quietly for the day of his death.
And that day finally came.
#Loop 2
Roswaal opened his eyes.,He stared at his fingers. Smooth. Unwrinkled. He turned toward the mirror and froze.
“I-I’m… young again?” the court mage muttered in utter surprise his eccentric drawl entirely absent.
His gaze snapped to the calendar on his desk.
14th of Tanmuz, 401.
“Oh~ my~…” A wide, delighted smile stretched across Roswaal’s face.
“I’ve traveled back in time? A second chance?” His breath hitched, excitement flooding his chest. “A restart… to zero.”
This was one of the best days of Roswaal’s life.
This is one of the worst days in Subaru's life. He was growing old along side his 2 wives, playing with his 2 children and talking with his beloved wives and spirit. Its been around 102 years since he first got transported into this world. Subaru went to bed, not knowing that this will be the last time his eyes will stay awake. He died in his sleep, only for him too return?
“H-huh? Where am I? D-did I die?”
Subaru’s voice echoed faintly as he looked around. He stood in a familiar town square, before a familiar fountain.
The place where everything had begun.
Shock robbed him of screams, of tears, of even breath. His legs carried him into the familiar alleyway, his mind desperately trying to rationalize the impossible.
“N-no… no, no, no. This can’t be happening. Did I die in my sleep?” His thoughts spiraled. Emilia. Rem. My children. Oh god—my children. His hands shook as he looked down at himself. Young arms. Old clothes. His jacket. The plastic bag in his grip. His phone. He was back. Back to the start. Back to zero.
“Oh god… I’m gonna be sick.”
Dizziness overwhelmed him. Heat rose in his stomach, clawing up his throat. Subaru collapsed to the ground, violently emptying his stomach onto the stone floor of the alley.
As his body convulsed through the involuntary expulsion, a familiar voice reached his ears.
“Hey! Give us all you got, and we won’t have any problems!”
Subaru lifted his head. Three men stood before him. Back then, they were part of Felt’s party. Currently? Nothing more then petty thugs.
Ton. Chin. Kan.
“Hey! You deaf or something?” the big one barked, stepping forward. “We said drop all your stuff!”
“Drop everything, and nobody gets hurt,” the short one added.
Subaru stared at them with empty, distant eyes, his mind still struggling to process his regression.
“Oh boy,” he muttered. “Here we go again.”
He took a breath.
“Ahem. HELPPPP! OH SOMEBODY HELP ME!” He shouted, as loud as he could, as feminely as he could.
“Dammit, shut up!” Chin snarled, pulling out his knife.
As the three thugs closed in, a calm voice cut through the alley.
“I think that’s enough"
