Work Text:

There was a time once, before the white lights, before the pain in his arms. Before any light had reached his eyes.

It was a space of nothing, not a speck of light was in it. Nothing but darkness. One would be afraid of this darkness. But him? He was never scared of this darkness, It wrapped around him like a warm blanket. A place he could wander endlessly.

Never afraid of his reflection as he could never see it himself. Never see the strange dust that surrounded him.

Something scooped him out of the warm blanket, ripped it off him and dragged him with them. He begged, he pleaded. He scratched at the collar on his neck. And yet he never got free, he couldn't. Their harsh words he couldn't understand.

Xisuma groans as he stumbles back into the white room. He blinked up at the sky. "More training?" a husk voice came from next to him. Their voice barely above a whispered. Xisuma nods after a moment.

"You know how it goes…" He sighs, "Once we get rid of those admins they will let us go, that's what they promised right?"

"I hope," Comes a grumble from Ex. Xisuma just sighs and shakes his head.

"Then we can return to the void," the thought of returning to the void makes him smile. He wanted to return to his home with his new friend. The void was an endless place and he never got to mean anyone else.

Yet here someone like him sits next to him. That was the only good thing that came with this. Everything else? Xisuma would disagree with.

"Do we even know how to get the void?" the question knocks Xisuma out of his thoughts, he shrugs after a moment.

"Well how did we get here in the first place?"

"That weird portal?" Ex replies, Xisuma nods.

"That portal must lead to the end then." Ex just sighs in response, and grumbles something about never leaving. Xisuma pushes himself up into a sitting position, backing up to one of the white walls in the room.

Everything ached, from his head to his toes. All of his muscles screaming at him with pain and agony. He sighs again, leaning his head back. He turns towards the small window, which when he was younger he would watch

"They seem young," Xisuma could feel multiple eyes staring at him, "Ten or so?" Ten? Was that how many years for players that he had been here? He knew he was younger then most voidwalkers, although most things in his life are blurry. Just the passage of time working its magic.

Another voice pips up after the other, "Young yes, but they are voidwalkers. They work," Xisuma could imagine the second voicing shrugging. The way their eyes kept tracking him. Despite not being able to see their faces himself.

"Good enough," Comes the first voice again, their voice low and annoyed sounding, "Keep track of them," The sound of footsteps echoed throughout the world.

How many months could Xisuma deal with this?

How many more days of torture?

He wasn't so sure.

After another moment of silence, Ex exhales, "I have a plan to leave this place," they say.

The petter patter of the rain is the first thing Xisuma, The two voidwalkers were out of breath, Ex leaning on the side of a building that Xisuma didn't recognize. Not that he really knew anything around him.

The strange water droplets falling from the sky. It smelled so fresh? So… different then the void. There was no sort of liquid in the void. The only reason Xisuma knew it was water was the time the people had tried to give him some water.

It was weird tasting… But alright. They said something about it being necessary to survive but he was pretty sure he didn't need water. He never had any in the void why would he need any here? "They will be back," Ex says between pants, "We have to hurry,"

Xisuma nods, Ex grimaces at his wordless reply. He had refused to speak a single word after that day. Ex shudders at the thought.

"There they are!" Came a loud ringing voice, Xisuma pauses, his eyes going wide like a deer in the headlight. Ex curses at the sound.

"We have to go," They reach out to grab Xisuma's hand, the footsteps only get louder and louder. They ring in Xisuma's head and he tense up not moving. "Come on," Ex repeats, giving Xisuma's arm a hard tug, that causes him to take a couple steps, following Ex into a run.

They run, they run fast. Not wanting to be caught again. Not wanting to be hurt again. Ex pauses, faltering. He swears again. Glancing towards Xisuma and then the wall.

The footsteps only get louder and louder and louder. Xisuma wished they would stop. The people only get closer and closer. Ex's frantic searching continued on and on. Xisuma just wanted it all to stop.

"Xisuma, Xisuma" Ex's words sounded so far away, the only thing Xisuma could here was the rain and those footsteps. Those dreaded footsteps. Their faces-blurry faces come into view.

Xisuma didn't know what to do, his muscles tense. "Xisuma please," His body moved in fear and before he knew it he tackled one of the weaker looking humans down, biting hard on them.

Xisuma was always terrified of his teeth.

Hot metal tasting liquid filled his mouth, A loud shout came from the man. Yelling something Xisuma couldn't understand. The other people quickly backed up, as Xisuma's hands tensed, drawing blood.

He didn't mean to. He just wanted to protect Ex. His brother. He wanted to protect his brother. He finally lets the man go, who fearfully runs off. Xisuma inhales trying to calm his beating heart.

Blood, blood all over his hands. He looks back to Ex, who looked worried. He tries to croak out a word, any word. A thank you, a I love you, a I'm sorry and yet not a single word can come out of his mouth. Like it was stuck in his throat, not letting him breath. "Xisuma…" Ex whispers out, his brother glancing towards the floor, "Lets just get out of here okay?" Xisuma nods, letting the rain wash the red off his hands. He can't help but stare at his hands.

Mud coated the two, sticks, twigs, dust, dirt. Everything and anything stuck to them. They were gross and dirt but alive and that was worth it wasn't it?

He hoped he didn't hurt that man too much. Ex reaches out putting his hand in his own hand, before the two walk out of that alley. And into another one. The rain was still falling, it was getting harder and harder. Xisuma holds out a hand to it, watching it fall down it.

"Its weird being out here don't you think?" Ex says once they stop for another break, but Xisuma could barely hear them. As the world spun and spun. He tries to inhale again, tries to get any air into his lungs.

All he could think of was the blood on his and that's all he can see as darkness filled his vision.

And for some reason blond hair?
