Intertwined Fates

Prologue

Fire, brimstone, blood, sulphur, demons and darkness – after his faithful decision to stay behind in a literal Hell of all places to keep it occupied with the righteous culling of its inhabitants, Doom Marine grew quite accustomed to the place.

He did not know how long he had been here, nor did he really carehis mind was consumed by one and only one thought that grew stronger and stronger since the day everything he held dear to his heart was ripped apart and burned to ash — "kill them all."

And he had been acting upon that thought since then – he didn't care about sleep orrest. No matter what numbers would come at him or what type of a devil would try to destroy him, he will not stop his merciless assault on the dark realm.

Even when every single bone and muscle in his body screamed in pure agony for a break, or when a deep wound was severe enough for his insides to spill out onto the cursed ground beneath his feet, he would not stop…

The slaves of DOOM will also continue their relentless assault.

They will not stop trying to destroy what's left of Earth.

Deep down, he understood that, at some point, he would die somewhere on that path of eternal damnation he had willingly paved for himself in a desperate attempt to defend whatever was left of his world – doing the very thing he was trained to do...

Do what is necessary and then die in the line of duty. For what else was there left for him if not that?

"Rip... and TEAAAR!" Marine roared through his gritted teeth as he ripped the imp's head off and threw it in the direction of the next horde that came after him, followed by a blast from his super shotgun, tearing apart four unlucky imps for being in close proximity to a man too angry to die. While he was reloading, he bashed through a few possessed soldiers, exploding them into bits as if they were run through by a speed train, and then shot off Hell Baron's kneecap, making it fall over and giving the Marine an opportunity for some savagery...

After his battle with the Mother Demon, his vision remained constantly red due to being possessed by a demonic berserk, which made him strong enough to fight back using only his hands, but also much more reckless than he should have been under the circumstances.

Nevertheless, the bloodshed continues – the early mentioned Hell Baron's jaw was ripped out of its head by one moody Marine after a short pounding session on its skull. He was sent flying by a powerful punch from a Hell Knight, creating another crack on his helmet and giving him another concussion.

Dizzy, but still angry, Last Man Standing in Hell rose up and retaliated with a powerful punch in the gut, followed by breakingthe creature's kneecapand a firm stomp on its head, splattering all the brain juices over Marine's boots and the ground.

An imp was able to claw at his stomach and left arm soon after – that demon's head was squished with Marine's fists. Then came a fireball in his face – helmet partially melted and face scorched – and he fired back in the direction it came from, hearing the confirmation of the fool responsible receiving the pellet-filled message to its body.

He heard a familiar roar – a tall devil with a metal leg and a cannon arm – Cyberdemon, standing not too far from the Marine, eyes filled with hatred.

"Huuuge Guuuts..." he grinned in a vicious anticipation of the soon-to-be mortal combat with a tall behemoth before him. He switched for a plasma rifle and started to fire at the creature while avoiding the incoming fire – he could practically feel how the rifle was actually burning his own hands from holding the trigger for so long, but it did not stop his pursuit for victory.

When the plasma rifle stopped firing, he lunged at the barely alive behemoth – like a rabid chimp that is about to tear apart someone's face simply for sadistic pleasure – and he started to pound at its face until it hit the ground, and then he grabbed its one remaining horn and started to pull – a roar unlike any other could be heard during the entire process, and when he yanked it out with a sickening crunch, he stabbed it in the head, sending it to oblivion.

Marine was knocked off his feet for a moment by a pink-skinned demon – some of his ribs now punctured his lungs, causing him to cough up plenty of blood, so he punctured the creature's head in retaliation with the horn of the freshly butchered Cyberdemon and twisted it like he was trying to scoop an ice cream.

For some reason, this recent display of brutality made the remaining lesser demons stop in their pursuit of the Doom Marine – not because such a thing shocked them. What followed after, though? That did the work.

Here before them stood a mortal man – gravely injured, outnumbered, with little ammunition left and about to die sooner or later...

Yet he was laughing.

This mortal man, on the brink of death, was laughing.

And for the first time ever, the few slaves of DOOM present at that moment felt something they had never experienced before...

Fear.

"You demons don't stand a chance against me" he spoke in a loud, yet terrifyingly calm manner before lunging at the nearest imp to rip apart once more...

But before he could continue his path of perpetual torment, something unexpected happened – an odd blast of purple-like energy just exploded out of nowhere before the Damned Marine, sending him into figurative oblivion.

When he opened his eyes – all the anger seemed to be dulled for a moment – he realised that he was locked up in some sort of a capsule made of flesh and bone, but it was not of demonic origin by the looks of it. Then, a strange figure appeared, seemingly floating towards him. Upon closer inspection, Marine struggled to comprehend the sight before him - a squid-like humanoid creature clutching a worm. Then it opened a capsule.

Doom Marine saw red again, and he lunged at the creature but was stopped by some unseen force. It infuriated him even more, and he started to pull against the power containing him, slowly reaching towards the throat of the squid man, which seemed to be...

Puzzled? Curious? Whatever the creature just did, it was not expecting him to fight back that force, so it focused harder, and so did the Marine with his will of iron – pushing against the unknown, all the odds be damned.

Now the thing seemed to be irritated by his defiance – it used both of its hands to keep him steady, which still wasn't enough to keep him at bay until two more similar-looking but smaller squid beings showed up to assist the creature – this seemed to work, making Doom Marine roar out of frustration and fury – he could not move even a muscle now.

When the squid monster made sure that the Marine from Hell was secure, he came closer with a worm in his hand and then moved it to his eye – the ugly worm had tentacles and teeth, and it lunged into the Marine's eye, making him roar like the trapped beast he was during the entire process. When it was over, the creature waved its hand, making the Marine feel dizzy and closing the capsule door. Before his mind was sent back to oblivion, he realised one thing for himself:

'Peace... it is only a temporary reprieve'

So I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3 for quite a while now, and I kind of got hooked on one of the characters – the Labrador Energy Blood War vet Tiefling with an infernal engine for a heart – Karlach, and then a few more walkthroughs made me remember DOOM, and I thought, how would a duo of a:

The big lady barbarian, who was betrayed by a man she trusted and sent to Avernus, was partially mutilated but never lost hope of returning back home and living whatever amount of time she had left on the material plane (thanks to the infernal engine) while refusing the very idea of going back to Hell to not die too soon...

And a man and a half, who literally got nothing left to live for, nothing left to lose, no hope, no real future – just the rubble of his own home world to voluntarily set himself on a path of Perpetual Torment deep into the pits of Hell itself – just to die protecting whatever is left?

I thought it would be fun to try exploring this crazy idea in this fanfic. Downside? Based on how much of a lazy & busy arsehole I am, to the point my other fic is still a work in progress after 3 FUCKIN' YEARS now (though I got plenty of ideas I have yet to fully execute for it), I am afraid this could happen here too, but who knows?

And just for the sake of trying to make this story somewhat engaging, in this fic, Doomguy was pulled during the events of DOOM 64 when he stayed in Hell and locked behind himself a portal out of there – somewhere between him killing Mother Demon and not yet meeting Sister Resurrector (whose death led Doomguy to the lands of Argenta – barely alive, very angry, incoherent and raving.)

Why did I choose to do that? Let's face it: after being infused with the Divinity Machine, lore Doomguy is just way too broken for the BG3 story. The pre-divinity machine Doomguy, though? A tad bit overpowered, but not ridiculously so.)
