Work Text:
Orange looks over the table at his date. Her hair was curly, it seemed to be a dark shade of blue. Her dress was long and flowy. Her eyes gave off a stern but kind expression, like a librarian who liked you enough to not give that rude of a look like all the other librarians do. He caught himself staring at her eyes. Before he could look away Navy blue noticed his staring.
"What are you staring at" Navy said with genuine curiosity.
Orange looked away blushing. Quick! think of something smart and yet flirty to say in response. Orange thought for a few seconds. Ah-hah! I'll just tell her the truth in a more interesting way! Orange looked back up at Navy.
"Your wonderful eyes" This came out smoother than Orange expected.
Navy blushed but tried to hide it with her hair. She had been told that she has beautiful eyes before, but this time felt different. She couldn't figure out why though. Was it the nervous feeling, or maybe she was just not expecting him to say something like that. Whatever it was she tried to hide it. Then a waiter came over to the table and Navy snapped out of her confusion.
"Hello, sir and ma'am. What can I get for you today?" The waiter asked
Orange looked down at his menu. All of the options were types of meat-except one- a salad. Oranges little vegetarian heart jumped with joy at the sight.
"I'll have a salad please" He said.
The waiter turned to Navy "and you, madam?" he asked
"I'll have the rib-eye steak, please" Navy then turned to Orange, "don't worry, I'll pay for dinner."
"How do you have the money for that? If you need me to chip in I can-"
"No, no, its fine. If I didn't have the money I would not have said I could pay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
At this point the waiter had walked back to the kitchen to turn in the order. He came back a bit later with their food. He placed the food in front of them. Orange and Navy thank him. Orange realizes that the salad has bacon bits in it. Damn, the one thing that I thought I could eat I can't. Navy noticed Oranges hesitation.
"You okay, Orange?" Navy asked
"Yeah... I just didn't realize that the salad had bacon in it." Orange replied
"OHMYGODIAMSOSORRYIDIDN'TKNOWYOUDIDN'T-" Navy gushed embarrassed.
"Its fine. I can just pick out the bacon bits" Orange said.
Orange started picking out the bacon bits. Once he finished, he started to eat his salad.
"I'm sorry that I brought you here, I don't know how I could make it up to you!" Navy fretted.
"I already said its okay, but you could make it up to me is by taking me to the garden I saw on the way here" to be honest, Orange was not fully aware of what he was saying, all he knew was that he might get to go through the beautiful gardens.
After their dinner, Orange and Navy go down to the garden. The flowers are laid out in rows that make a rainbow pattern. Orange spotted a American lappet moth. His eyes light up with joy and he starts ranting to Navy about the moths life cycle. Navy just looked into his soft brown eyes, she wanted to look at them forever. His eyes give her a comforting feeling, like sitting by a fire while drinking hot chocolate on a cold dark winter night. Orange paused his rant.
"What's wrong?" Orange inquired.
"Nothing," Navy blush a bit, "you just look so beautiful in the light of the streetlights."
"You too," Orange remarked, "your eyes remind me of the modest sphinx moth. Did you know that the modest sphinx caterpillar feeds on the leaves of cottonwood trees as well as poplar, aspen, and willow."
"No, I didn't. Could you tell me more?"
"Well, they-"
Navy cut Orange off and blurted: "But first, can I kiss you?"
Orange was taken aback by the question.Of course were on a date Orange thought so it makes sense for her to ask that. But this is so abrupt, there's no way she actually said that. But she did. And he was blushing.
"uh... y-yes.." Orange managed to say.
Navy leaned in and brought her lips to Oranges. Orange brought his hand up to her face and cupped it in his hand.

Then they went back to their houses and went to bed.
