They were young and in love. Oh, so young, and so reckless - they thought love is forever. They thought that if they tied themselves together, the fans and the band and the constant looming pressure would not crush them. Nobody can pull them apart if their literal souls are connected, right?
It all sounded like a dream-come-true. Just a simple ritual that promised forever: life would always lead them back together eventually, no matter what happened or who decided the opposite. A spell read out loud, sealed with rings they handmade for eachother and with a gentle kiss on the lips. They'll always be together. Forever.
But what if the force pulling them apart happened to be internal? What if love, at first, seemed to be an eternal fire, but ended up being a little candle which blew out with a gust of wind?
And now they're fucking stuck. Together forever doesn't always mean well, when one of you is sleeping with his back to the other, when you can't look eachother in the eyes, when sweet mornings turn into tortuous quiet, and when you stay at the studio way too late, praying that when you come home he won't be waiting for you with a cold dinner and guilty eyes.
Corey was the first one to crack. Joey found out through a friend of a friend - the singer went to a get-together, flirted with some woman and then left with her. Joey cried in the shower that night while Corey went out in their backyard to speak on the phone with her. Their love was over.
But the bond didn't understand it.
Joey confronted him. They argued. Corey said some horrible shit. Maybe Joey said even worse shit. Regardless, it all came to an abrupt end when the universe interrupted Corey's feeble attempt of an affair by getting his mistress in a fatal car accident. It was over just as quick as it began.
Then, Joey tried to go. He couldn't handle the blank stare Corey gave him every morning. Couldn't fucking handle the guilt that curled up in his gut every single time he remembered her. It was his fault too. An innocent person died just because they were too hormonal to think about the future. He packed his bags and left. Corey didn't help, just watched from the couch as Joey closed the door and left his pair of keys inside.
His car broke down when he was in the middle of one of those Iowa fields of corn that seem to strech on forever. No mechanics were around and no people would stop to help. Joey had to walk to the nearest civilized place for eight miles, before returning with help and discovering that almost all of his money and cards that he left in the car were stolen. It was over just as quick as it began.
Joey returned home. Joey cried his eyes out on Corey's shoulder. Joey said sorry again and again. Corey cried and apologized as well. He said he doesn't blame him, that it's alright, that they are gonna be okay.
This was probably the most intimate they have been since the fallout. Probably the closest and the most honest they will ever be with eachother. But it doesn't matter. They're forever now.
They wake up and make coffee and barely greet eachother. Corey yells at Joey for leaving the shampoo bottle in the shower again. Joey screams about how the singer never cares enough to buy the right laundry detergent. Their clothes are ruined again and their shower is messy with the opened bottle and there's a clump of long, dark hair in the drain.
They're forever now. Even if their love ended as quickly as it began.
