Chapter Text
The scent of fresh cookies filled the kitchen, cosmo was alone…again. Sprout had to go on the supply run even though he seemed on the verge of collapsing. It was heart aching for Cosmo to watch him act fine leaving. The sound of toodles hum was heard through the hum before she peeked into the kitchen
“Mr Cosmo! The team is back from the run, Mr Rodger told me to tell you!”
“...toodles? O-oh…thanks toodles. I appreciate it, tell Mr rodger I said thanks for alerting me”
Toodles nodded before pausing, she began to sniff the air before walking up to cosmo tugging on his hoodie,
“Can I have a cookie…?”
“Ah….uhm….yes toodles, don't tell sprout! He'd get me in trouble hehe”
Cosmo hands a cookie to toodles, the eight ball practically beamed as she runs out the kitchen squealing stuffing her face with the cookie. Cosmo sighed silently enjoying the joyful spirit the child kept even after….everything. The roll wouldn't admit it but he was somewhat jealous of the spirit she kept.
Cosmo carried the plate of cookies as he walked into the elevator and clicked the lobby button. Sure enough there was a crowd of toons surrounding the toons from the team, something was off. Cosmo sat down the cookies on a bench as he rushed over worried if someone–no if Sprout was hurt.
As Cosmo managed to push through poppy, glisten and a few others he was met with the sight of shelly standing there, what was in her hands was a torn fabric, cosmo immediately recognized that stripped design. It was sprouts scarf. Cosmo almost choked as he rushed to shelly who was staring at the fabric, she seemed…shocked, traumatized. Unshed tears.
“Shelly? W-whats going on? Where's sprout?”
“...cosmo….Sprout didn't make it”
“...what?...”
Everything went darker, duller. He felt light headed but he kept himself awake not DARING to pass out.
“...haha…nice joke…where is my best friend?”
“he died cosmo! He died in front of me–pebble. Pebble got him–we were running and…and I…”
Shelly bursted out in tears as Tisha came to comfort her as Tisha slipped the fabric from her hold and gave it to cosmo.
“Keep it cosmo, you'll need it.”
“i….thanks tisha…i….I need to go”
Cosmo held the fabric to his chest as he ran to the elevator, a knot in his throat was forming. It was hard to see everything becoming blurry from tears, he can't let people see him cry.
Cosmo slammed his door behind him. He collapsed to the floor as tears flooded out, where was sprout? He was just left to rot? Are you kidding? Everything felt…weird. Cosmo sluggishly got up and slowly walked to his dresser before rummaging through it, a pair of scissors. Everything felt so unreal nothing was grounding him. Sure he had a past of self harm but after meeting sprout he stopped. Sprout was his motivation, his joy. His world.
It's your fault cosmo.
☆
Cosmo laid on his bed staring at his ceiling as the blood trickled down his thighs. Why did he do that? Oh yeah, it was grounding him. Keeping him from passing out. Cosmo grabbed the ripped fabric from sprouts scarf off his night stand and stared at it, what if he somehow managed to convince him to stay? Would they be cuddling and laughing like high schoolers in love still? Would he be pampering sprout still?
Cosmo sat up only to get lightheaded, sending him back down. Maybe he should wait this out.
☆
Cosmos' eyes fluttered open as the sun violated his poor eyes through his window, cosmo sat up, he felt so off. He sluggishly walked to his dresser sleeping on a pair of pants to hide his actions he caused. Everything felt so….empty. usually sprout would burst in jumping on cosmo pulling him out of bed–
Sprout.
Sprout.
Oh that poor main made the commons heart ache in regret and guilt. The roll walked to the kitchen rummaging through the fridge only to spot strawberries. Where was these even coming from? There wasn't any strawberries in the fridge from what he remembered? It didn't matter cosmo wasn't hungry anyways.
The walk back to his room? Oh the glares from the toons full of pity. He hated it. Why was they giving their pity? It wasn't just gonna magically bring sprout BACK. Oh he wanted sprout back though. The smile the main had could light up any room with more smiles and laughter with the mains silly chosen words. Sure sometimes he got too pushy and protective but under all of it was no bite. Just pure concern. Cosmo loved it too.
“Gosh I heard sprout turned twisted yesterday, it must be affecting cosmo”
Cosmo heard someone mumble those words, did he know exactly who? No. He didn't. Did he care? No. His heart was too full of guilt and regret from not stopping sprout to care.
Cosmos room was…silent. Too silent. The only noise was the creak of the bed under his weight. Oh…he hated his chubby body. Sometimes his past clothes he used to wear almost weekly doesn't even fit him anymore, he hated it. Yet sprout kept him from starving or losing any weight, in fact he encouraged chubbiness.
Cosmo clinged onto his own sprout plushie seeking the same warmth in it he would've gotten from sprout. But no arms was wrapping him back, he felt so alone for the first time in years! Cosmos eyes began to flutter close
“Cosmo cosmo! Come with me I wanna show you a good friend of mine!”
“H-huh!--Shelly wait up!”
Shelly grabbed onto cosmos hand practically dragging him before they stopped infront a strawberry toon.
“Cosmo, this is sprout! Sprout, this is cosmo!”
The two bakers only stared at each other for a few seconds before Sprout smiled his cheeks flushing a deep red as he reached his arm out, cosmo immediately mimicked his action he just couldn't bring himself to show his teeth in his smile like sprout.
“It's a pleasure to meet you, sprout….”
“Y-yeah! It's very–it's a big pleasure to meet you too, cosmo!”
“Oh shells!--I just remembered I'd help vee with carrying boxes, bye guys I gotta go!”
…
“It was a pleasure to know you, cosmo.”
“H-huh?”
“You know I'm not here with you anymore. I'm already a twisted. The things I wanted to keep you from..”
“I…know.”
“Promise me cosmo, you won't make any dumb decisions?”
“I promise. Hey sprout….I miss you.”
“I miss you too buddy.”
