Work Text:

Eui Jae was bored.

Valentine’s Day was tomorrow, and he had taken a day off from the restaurant, thinking it would be the perfect opportunity to spend some time with Sa Young. However, he had no idea where they would be going.

Lying sprawled across the couch and staring at the ceiling, Eui Jae tapped his fingers against his stomach. After a long moment, he turned his head toward Sa Young.

“Hey, Sa Young ah. Where should we go tomorrow?”

Sa Young shrugged, picking up his phone.

“I can search for a few places if hyung is fine with that.”

A few seconds later, something caught his attention.

“Hyung, there’s a place in Daegu… Palgongsan cable car?”

“Cable car?”

“Hyung… do you like cable cars?”

“I don’t really mind.”

“Alright then. It’s in Daegu, so we might have to drive for a few hours.”

They went together on a car trip. The drive was quiet but comfortable, the road winding as the scenery slowly changed. Sa Young drove, occasionally glancing at Eui Jae, who rested his chin against the window, watching the road scenery pass by.

When they reached the area, Eui Jae stepped out of the car, stretching his arms.

As the air filled with the distant chatter of people, memories of coming here with his parents when he was younger long before the apocalypse began surfaced in his mind. A hint of sadness washed over him as he remembered how his family used to go on weekend trips together.

As Eui Jae was lost in his thoughts, a black gloved hand tapped him.

“Hyung, let’s go upstairs. We’re boarding soon.”

“Ah… yeah.”

They headed up and stepped into the cable car. As the doors closed and the cabin began to move, Eui Jae instinctively grabbed the railing.

“Are you nervous?” Sa Young asked.

“Not really… maybe a bit. It has been a while since I sat on a cable car.”

Sa Young chuckled.

“It’ll be fine. Look.”

The ground slowly pulled away beneath them, the trees shrinking as the view widened.

“It’s higher than I expected…” Eui Jae muttered.

“But it feels quite nice,” Sa Young said. “It’s quiet up here.”

Eui Jae nodded, watching the scenery pass by.

When they reached the top, Eui Jae stepped out and gasped.

The view stretched endlessly before him, mountains and trees layered beneath the pale sky.

“Wow…”

“Hyung likes these places?”

“I just find it refreshing to see a view like this,” Eui Jae said. “And it’s quiet. There aren’t many people around, so you can enjoy it properly.”

Sa Young smiled. His excited hyung looked unbelievably cute.

As they walked, something suddenly caught Sa Young’s eye.

A wall full of heart shaped lockers.

“Hyung, wait a minute.”

Before Eui Jae could respond, Sa Young walked off and returned with a heart shaped locker in his hands.

“Let’s write our wish together and lock it there.”

“What are you going to write?”

Sa Young didn’t answer. He simply bent over the note and scribbled something.

Eui Jae grew curious and leaned over Sa Young’s shoulder.

“What are you writ-”

Ah.

I hope hyung can be happy like this more often.
And that I can stay beside him for a long time.

Eui Jae felt his chest tighten.

“Sa Young…”

Sa Young stiffened instantly, his ears turning red beneath his hair. He quickly moved the lock closer to himself.

“Hyung… you weren’t supposed to read it.”

Eui Jae let out a small laugh, though his voice came out softer than usual.

“You were writing so seriously. How could I not get curious?”

He reached for the pen. “It’s my turn, then.”

Sa Young watched quietly as Eui Jae bent over the small lock.

When he was done, he placed the lock on the wall.

Click.

Sa Young turned the lock Eui Jae had just placed there and read what his hyung had written.

After a long silence, Sa Young spoke.

“Hyung… is this place to your liking?”

“Yeah.”

“Actually, I used to come here with my parents when I was younger. I didn’t expect to remember that today.”

Sa Young’s expression hardened slightly.

“It’s okay though…” Eui Jae said quietly. “I think… they’d be happy I came back here.”

“But I’m glad I came here with you too.”

After a while, Sa Young spoke again.

“Hyung,” he said, stepping closer.

Before Eui Jae could respond, Sa Young wrapped his arms around him in a warm embrace.

Eui Jae chuckled and gave Sa Young a head pat.

“…Thank you, Sa Youngie”
