Chapter Text
YAY-OK was on his way to GASI headquarters, his part-time job. He had been aiming to be assigned to one of the ships, especially since he moved away from his old home.
“Now, YAY-OK.” Dr. Chimpsky stood beside the robot. “Despite being a doombot, you have proven yourself to only use your destructive abilities whenever it is necessary. Because of that I am proud to assign you to your first spaceship.”
“Really?” YAY-OK smiled. “Thank you! You have no idea how much I wanted to get a real job! I won't let you down!”
“Your first assignment is to train our newest recruits. They are young and inexperienced so I won't blame you if you don't turn them into Grade A agents overnight.” Chimpsky patted YAY's shoulder.
“I will do my best.” YAY-OK saluted. “Who am I going to train?”
“Gustav and Walter.” Chimpsky informed him.
“Ah, those adorable… and very smelly bambinos.” YAY-OK remembered helping Chimpsky watch over them in the past. “I haven't seen them in years. I won't let you down, though.”
“Great.” Chimpsky pointed to a large shiny orange rocket ship. “The soon to be agents will be along shortly.”
YAY-OK went inside and saw the freshly waxed floors and shiny walls.
“They really cleaned this place up nicely.” YAY commented.
Meanwhile a large brown monkey with blonde hair was holding two much smaller monkeys’ hands.
“We're going to miss you, mom.” A scratchy high pitched yellow monkey teared up.
“I will too, but I'm not going to cry about it.” The brown monkey with a somewhat deep and mature sounding voice shrugged.
“Be good little boys.” Bernice kissed the brown monkey on the cheek, then the yellow monkey.
“Bye mom!” Both let go of her hands and waved goodbye.
“My boys. They're out there, all grown up.” Bernice sniffled, then she saw a tall baboon walk past her. “Oh hey handsome.”
“Hello, is anyone here?” The deeper voiced monkey knocked on YAY-OK's door.
“That sounds like someone who's going to take his job seriously.” YAY-OK pointed out, he opened up the door and saw both of the boys.
“Look Wally, a refrigerator!” The brown monkey pointed at YAY-OK eagerly.
“Have any banana ice cream Mr. Fridge?” The yellow monkey asked excitedly.
“I'm not a fridge, I am a doombot. I mean I'm a robot assigned to train you both to be the best heroes you can be.” YAY-OK corrected himself.
“Cool, we have our very own robot trainer!” Gus quickly shook YAY's pincer hand. “My name's Gus and this is my brother Wally. I'm the leader and he's the sidekick, for your info.”
“I'm YAY-OK.” YAY-OK introduced himself.
“That's a weird name.” Gus pointed at him.
“It stands for “You Are Yesterday's Obligitory Killer.” YAY-OK clarified. “I know that makes me sound dangerous but you must understand, I was made to be a destructive doomsday device, but believe me when I say I was a failure. I wouldn't hurt a space fly if I tried.”
“That's too bad. Space flies have been swarming in our fur lately.” Gus rolled his eyes. “No offense, robot.”
“YAY-OK.” The robot reminded him.
“Whatever. I expected a training machine to be a little… Cooler. Like those towering ones that can turn into cars and blow stuff up, like in the movies.” Gus insulted.
“Well what you see is what you get, I'm in charge of you two no matter how uncool I am. Do you want to be a Rocket Monkey or not?” YAY-OK was growing impatient.
“Yes.” Gus straitened his back, trying to look more obedient.
“Good, now your first training session…” YAY-OK looked at the long list. “Ahah, we are going to the simulation room. You will put on these helmets and you'll be transported to a digital dimension where you will experience missions. Of course, they will still be easy missions since you're starting out small.”
“So it's like a video game?” Wally asked eagerly.
“In a way, yes, expect you'll have to beat it in order to determine if you can be real agents.” YAY-OK explained.
“We get to play video games for our job?!” Gus cheered.
“Best game ever!!!” The monkeys shouted.
“It's not just a game!” YAY-OK put his hand over his eye. “Just let me take you over there.”
When they arrived Gus and Wally immediately put on their helmets and found themselves in a digital plain that looked like the inside of a blue box with many grid lines. Then a much smaller blue version of Chimpsky appeared.
“Time for your first quest. Your job is to rescue Nova the princess of the galaxy.” Chimpsky showed an image of an alien woman.
“A princess!” Wally's eyes sparkled. “I love princesses, the dolls, the players, the movies, everything!”
“You're so girly.” Gus rolled his eyes. “Besides, they are always saved by tall and attractive princes who either kiss them in their sleep or put hard shoes on their feet. That's a little inaccurate.”
“Enough!” The blue Chimpsky shouted, then a bunch of dummies appeared. “This army of minions are in your way of rescuing Nova. What do you do first?”
“Ooh a teddy bear! I know! I’ll give them a hug! They can’t resist a cute face like mine, they’ll get out of our way in no time!” Wally spread his arms apart.
“Wally, stop!” Gus reached out, but Wally hugged the dummy and the simulation disappeared. “Wally, you absolute fool, you know you were supposed to throw custard at them!”
“Sorry Gus.” Wally sighed.
“You tried your best. Yes everyone usually gets past the first level on the first try. But you did your best.” YAY-OK patted both of their backs.
“If you say so.” Gus yawned loudly. Wally noticed this and yawned as well.
“Are you tired?” YAY-OK asked them.
“Uh huh.” Wally muttered.
“Guess I may as well show you to your room.” YAY-OK guided them to a bedroom with two beds.
“Is there a night light?” Wally asked.
“No, I want my room to be nice and dark!” Gus complained.
“Night light!” Wally argued.
“Darkness!” Gus shouted back.
“Gentlemens, gentlemens.” YAY-OK interrupted them. “I have an idea.”
He turned on the lamp, causing Gus to whine and cover his eyes, but then he placed three books in front of it on Gus’s side, making him relax.
“Thanks, A-OK.” Wally slowly closed his eyes.
“It’s YAY-OK but you’re very welcome.” YAY-OK said softly. “And goodnight you two.”
“Night.” Gus muttered.
