Work Text:
Wei Ying sat alone on a quiet corner of their university's library, quietly humming along to the music on full blast playing in his earphones and moving his leg to the beat. Jiang Cheng, that bastard, had waited till the very last minute to remind him that he had a very important paper due tomorrow, worth half his grade.
Wei Ying had ended up beating up his brother over it and then immediately rushing to the library with his laptop under his arm and without having his dinner. At least he had his ipod to feed him good music.
("Who even used ipods anymore in this decade", Jiang Cheng had scrunched his nose at him. Wei Ying had eloquently replied, "People with taste ChengCheng.")
Thunder rumbles distantly but he pays it no mind. He's humming softly to himself, chewing on his pen with a coffee beside him, that's long gone cold. It's cozy, albeit a bit chilly.
"Aaaaand done!" Wei Ying finishes typing out the last sentence of his conclusion and immediately shuts down his laptop after saving the file.
"Fuck I'm so hungry, did I miss dinner?" Wei Ying muses to himself, while packing up his things, strewn all over the library table. Not even a beat later there is a crack of lightning, followed by ear-splitting thunder.
Wei Ying immediately moves to cover his ears and winces. "Ouch. That was loud", he mutters under his breath, while slipping his bag over his shoulders and heading towards the exit. Only then he finally noticed that it was quiet, eerily so.
"What's the time... did everyone leave?", Wei Ying thinks to himself, pulling open the door to the exit. Or at least he tried to pull it open. It was jammed shut.
"What the hell..", Wei Ying uses all his strength to pull open the door but to no avail. It was definitely jammed shut and locked from outside. After pulling on the door for a few more minutes, he started to get a teensy bit tensed.
"I can't believe they locked me in here", Wei Ying curses out, kicking on the door a few times. "HELP! ANYBODY THERE? I'M LOCKED IN HERE AND I'M STARVING", Wei Ying screams with all his might, kicking and banging on the door even harder.
"HE- oh it's no use", Wei Ying gives up, sighing dramatically and plopping down on a chair. "Guess I'll just have to sleep here tonight. At least I still have electricity."
There is another ear-splitting thunder and the electricity goes out.
Wei Ying sighs again. "Hah. That's really funny."
It was dark inside the library but at least it wasn't pitch black. The moonlight shone through the windows, illuminating the room. The rain came down in sheets, thick and relentless, drumming against the tall library windows like frantic beat of a thousand fingertips. Thunder rolled low and heavy, a growl beneath the earth, rattling the bookshelves and humming through the floors. Every now and then, a sharp crack of lightning tore the sky open.
Wei Ying rummaged around his backpack to find something to cover himself with, since it was getting really chilly now. He only came up with a worn, ragged red jacket. Without complaining, he put it on and laid his head down on the table, trying to not think about food or his growling stomach.
Suddenly there was a low creak from the corner of the room, like a door opening. Wei Ying paid it no mind, brushing it off to a mouse, too hungry to think of anything. He closed his eyes.
Sound of footsteps. Not able to ignore it any longer, Wei Ying had to open his eyes, whining as he did so. The footsteps seemed to come towards him.
Wei Ying could make out a silhouette of a man and immediately sighed in relief. Oh someone's here to rescue him! Joy!
"Hey, I'm over here", Wei Ying called out to the man. "How did you get in? The door's shut."
The footsteps stopped. Thunder rumbled again, while the pattering of rain only got stronger. The man stepped forward, his face illuminated by the moonlight now.
Wei Ying rubbed his eyes and rubbed them again to check if he was seeing clearly. Then he gave out a noise of disbelief. "Lan Zhan? That you?" The only guy in their entire college who hates Wei Ying's guts is here! Yay, just Wei Ying's luck.
Also, Wei Ying might be a little bit in love with him.
"Wei Ying", the man said, his deep voice reverberating in the silence of the room. He walked over to him and stared down disapprovingly. "The library timings are between 9 to 9. It is now almost 10. How could you be so careless."
Wei Ying almost laughed. Ahh there it is! The fuddy duddy of their year is here to save him again! Wei Ying is always happy to see him, maybe concerningly so, but he truly outdid himself this time.
"Ah Lan Zhan! You have no idea how scared I was here all alone!" Wei Ying looked up at Lan Zhan pitifully, jutting out his lower lip. "I'm so happy to see you! You're like my knight in shining armor, here to save the damsel Wei Ying." He grinned playfully at the increasingly souring face of Lan Zhan.
Wei Ying couldn't see clearly, but it seemed like Lan Zhan's ears got bright red. Anger? Maybe?
"Hey, don't get mad I was just teasing", Wei Ying said hastily, pulling on Lan Zhan's sleeve. "Say, why are you here? Aren't you generally in bed by 9? What could have been so important for the upright Lan Zhan to not follow his rigorous sleep schedule?"
If it was even possible, Lan Zhan's ears got even redder. "I'm here to collect my notes for tomorrow. I left them here", he replied stiffly, avoiding eye contact.
Wei Ying nodded. Ah that explains it! Lan Zhan is weirdly territorial over his precious handwritten notes, he never lets anyone touch them. Also, they have a pretty important physics quiz tomorrow. The top student of their year can never slack off!
"Alright you get your notes and let's get out of here okay? I'm starving", Wei Ying said, standing up and slinging his backpack over his shoulder. "Wait, where did you even enter from? I thought the entrances were locked." Lan Zhan turned around to stare at Wei Ying's face with his cool eyes.
"I used the maintenance entrance", Lan Zhan said, smugly. Okay, maybe he wasn't actually smug, but Wei Ying definitely thought so!
"That.. was actually pretty clever", Wei Ying hung his head, ashamed that he didn't think of it first. Immediately popping his head back up he grinned widely. "Let's go then! Where are your notes?"
"Wait here. I will... fetch them", Lan Zhan said monotonously, still suspiciously avoiding eye contact. He disappeared from Wei Ying viewpoint, leaving the latter dumbfounded. Come on—Lan Zhan’s notes can’t be that sacred. It’s not like Wei Ying’s trying to steal national secrets, just a peek!
"Let us go", Lan Zhan emerged mysteriously after some time, and without so much as a backward glance he power walked his way towards the maintenance door. Wei Ying shot to his feet and scrambled to catch up. He hung back while Lan Zhan turned the handle to the maintenance door.
It didn't open.
"No no no no no no!" Wei Ying screeched dramatically, dropping down on his knees. "The maintenance door only opens from the outside and gets automatically locked shut behind a person! Why the fuck did I not remember this, I used to lock Jiang Cheng like this back in school all the time!"
Lan Zhan just looked lost. Wei Ying would laugh at him if it wasn't such a precarious situation. "I.. did not know this information", he said in a low voice, staring down at the ground. He looked so genuinely upset with himself, that Wei Ying scrambled up to tug at his hands.
"Hey hey don't blame yourself! It's not your fault that you didn't know", Wei Ying said to him, soothingly. "You're too much of a goody two-shoes to know these stuff."
Wrenching his hand away from Wei Ying's grasp, he turned away angrily and sat down at a chair, petulant. He looked so cute, Wei Ying wanted to ruffle his hair. Maybe pinch his cheeks a bit. Instead he smothered his laugh, and followed him.
"Look, I'm sorry okay? I'm a bit on edge myself", Wei Ying said, pulling out a chair beside Lan Zhan. "I haven't had any food in me for hours. Also the storm is starting to really scare me." As if on cue, there was a flash of lightning, followed by another round of thunder. Wei Ying shuddered.
Lan Zhan turned to look at Wei Ying with an undecipherable look on his face. "I have food", he said plainly.
"Sorry what?", Wei Ying said.
"I have food", Lan Zhan repeated, pulling out a red Tupperware container from his bag. It was like magic.
"In...in the library?", Wei Ying hesitated. Lan Zhan pushed the container towards Wei Ying and handed him a pair of chopsticks.
"My brother handed me this on my way here. Please eat if you are hungry", Lan Zhan said to him, still with that strange look on his face. "I had my dinner already."
Wei Ying blinked at him twice. Then he slowly twisted open the lid and peered inside. It was dry noodles, bright red with chili oil and it smelled intoxicatingly delicious. Wei Ying's stomach gave another grumble. He couldn't help himself anymore.
He wasted no time in snatching the chopsticks up and digging in. The noodles tasted as good as it smelled, if not better. It was red hot spicy, just like he loved it. He turned around to raise an eyebrow at Lan Zhan who was watching him quietly.
"I thought your family only ate bland, tasteless rabbit food. The kind with no flavour, which makes every person miserable.", Wei Ying managed out, his mouth still full. "These noodles are delicious, Lan Zhan! Exactly the right level of spice!"
"No talking while eating", Lan Zhan said disapprovingly turning his head away. His ears were red again. However, Wei Ying was relentless. "But why would your brother make this for you? Don't tell me you secretly like spice too!?" he blurted out, one hand on his heart.
"You are spitting", Lan Zhan informed him helpfully, totally ignoring his words. Wei Ying immediately swallowed the food and wiped his mouth.
"Ahh sorry sorry! But Lan Zhan, you know.. it's not a bad thing to enjoy tasty food", Wei Ying grinned at him, teasing. He put up one hand. "I won't tell anyone about this, no need to worry." Lan Zhan rubbed at his forehead. "Just finish your food, Wei Ying", he said, giving out a long suffering sigh.
When Lan Zhan looked back, Wei Ying's hand was suspended in midair holding the chopsticks with noodles towards him. He raised an eyebrow.
"Have a bite too. I would feel bad if you didn't even get to taste the food your brother made for you", Wei Ying said, pouting. "Go on."
"That is really not necessary. Brother would not know", Lan Zhan replied coolly. In response, Wei Ying pushed the chopsticks even nearer to his mouth. "I insist! Look I'm even feeding you so lovingly, won't you eat?"
Lan Zhan glanced down at the chopsticks in his hand, then back at Wei Ying’s hopeful expression. With a long and heavy sigh he leaned forward, lips parting as he wrapped them around the chopsticks. When he pulled back, mouth full of spicy noodles, his lips shone slick with oil, warm and impossibly soft-looking.
Suddenly Wei Ying found it hard to breathe.
He immediately pulled his slightly trembling hand back and continued eating with his head down, looking at nothing but his food. If he so much as glanced up he would've seen Lan Zhan with bright red ears and neck, bloodshot eyes and sweat pooling on his forehead. But he didn't so he very regrettably missed out on that.
After finishing his meal and licking the bowl clean, Wei Ying leaned back with a satisfied sigh and one hand on his stomach. "That was really good, Lan Zhan. I haven't had a home cooked meal in a very long time", Wei Ying gave a lopsided grin, his eyes half lidded. "Look, let me take the container with me tomorrow, I'll wash it and give it back to you-"
"No need", Lan Zhan said, already taking back the container and putting the lid back on. Wei Ying wanted to protest, but seeing the stubborn look on Lan Zhan's face, he swallowed his words back down. Instead, he beamed at him, his eyes turning into half-crescents. Lan Zhan immediately averted his eyes.
"So...", Wei Ying started. "What now?"
Lan Zhan glanced outside the window, onto the pouring rain and sighed. "We wait out the storm."
"Yeah.. but it's not just the storm is it? We are locked in here until morning when the librarian arrives and presumably gives us an earful. You will love that", Wei Ying said, putting his arms above his head and stretching. "We are well and truly fucked, storm or not."
From the corner of his eye, Wei Ying thought he noticed Lan Zhan staring at his abs, as he stretched his arms. However when he whipped around to look at him, Lan Zhan was just staring off into the distance, his adam's apple bobbing.
Wei Ying wanted to lick it.
"You should get some sleep. We have classes tomorrow", Lan Zhan said, rising from his seat and turning his back to Wei Ying.
"Bold of you to assume I'll be going", Wei Ying shook his head, like Lan Zhan is the crazy one. "Also hey, where you going? Don't leave me alone in the dark!"
Lan Zhan stopped to give him a stern look. "We have our physics quiz tomorrow, it is worth 30% of our grade. You will be going."
"You can't make me!"
"I can. I will drag you there if I have to."
Wei Ying plopped his head onto the table and whined like a petulant child. "Okay okay fine, I will only go if you carry me to the test! Bridal style and no bargaining. With my arms around your neck and my ass on your hands, you know the routine right?"
Lan Zhan didn't bother with a response, instead walked off in the dark. Wei Ying scrambled to follow, which had nothing to do with him being slightly scared of the thunder.
They didn't have to go far. Lan Zhan stopped in front of a couch and glanced at Wei Ying out of the corner of his eye.
"I am not sleeping in here!" Wei Ying shook his head, tugging at Lan Zhan's sleeves. "It's dirty! Students sit here with their shoes on!"
Wei Ying couldn't see properly but he thought Lan Zhan looked slightly disturbed from this piece of information. He secretly smiled to himself. Pulling the slightest hint of any emotion out of Lan Zhan counts as a win in his book.
Lan Zhan didn't tell off Wei Ying. Neither did he shake himself off from Wei Ying's grasp. He looked around a bit until his eyes fell on the curtains on the windows.
"You're serious?" Wei Ying said incredulously, following his gaze. "What is up with you today? You're behaving like a total deviant! Using curtains as bedsheets?! Whatever will your grouchy uncle say?"
"We will replace them tomorrow", Lan Zhan tried to defend himself, his ears turning into a rosy pink.
"Oh don't get me wrong, I think it's a genius idea", Wei Ying said, already moving towards the curtains. "Desperate times call for desperate measures eh?" He reached up with both hands and neatly unclasped the curtains from the hooks, before flinging the whole thing onto Lan Zhan's face. Lan Zhan glared at him after extracting himself from the mess.
Wei Ying giggled.
"Do not behave like a child", Lan Zhan admonished him, neatly spreading the curtain onto the couch like a bedsheet. It was at that moment the thunder gave an earth shattering roar.
Caught off-guard, Wei Ying practically hopped to Lan Zhan's side, clinging to his arm. Lan Zhan, also getting a terrible fright, grasped Wei Ying's hand tightly. For a few seconds, the two of them clung to each other for dear life.
"Fuck that was loud! I almost had a heart attack!" Wei Ying exhaled, his heart still thumping. He turned towards Lan Zhan to see if he was okay, then looked down at their jointly clasped hands and proximity to each other. His heart sped up even more.
"...Mm", Lan Zhan merely nodded. Probably too fucking embarassed to just admit that he was scared too, Wei Ying thought to himself. He moved to extricate himself from Lan Zhan, but the other boy held on tightly. Wei Ying could feel himself blushing all the way down to his fucking toes.
"Lan Zhan?" Wei Ying cleared his throat and said, softly.
Lan Zhan's ears turned a bright red and he let go of him, as if burned. He stared hard at his feet and wouldn't look at Wei Ying's eyes no matter what.
Wei Ying cleared his throat again. "Want to lie down, Lan Zhan? The couch looks pretty comfy eh? You can use my jacket as a pillow."
At this he finally looked up at him. "You should also lie down", he said, frowning a bit.
Wei Ying shook his head. "There's not enough space for two people, the couch is wide enough but... nope, it would be very cramped for two of us." Wei Ying gave a mischievous grin then. "Unless.. you want to cuddle? I mean I don't have any problem sleeping with someone in such a cramped space, but for you.."
Lan Zhan didn't let him finish before fixing his glare on him again. "You don't have a problem? Do you often sleep with people?"
Wei Ying was taken aback. Lan Zhan had been almost.. friendly to him this whole time, so much so that Wei Ying had almost forgotten that Lan Zhan in reality hated his guts. It was true! He was always disapproving of Wei Ying's lack of manners, his love for alcohol and the fact that he regularly snuck out to party at clubs. He never passed up the chance to report him at any chance he got. And that Lan Zhan is now back. Wei Ying had almost missed him.
"I suppose I do", Wei Ying said, a bit meanly. "Is that a problem, Lan Zhan?"
"No", Lan Zhan gritted his teeth. He turned away from him and busied himself with setting up the couch. "Lie down, Wei Ying", he said, once he had rolled up Wei Ying's jacket to use as a pillow.
Wei Ying frowned at him. "No, you lie down. It's really late for you. I know you're in your bed by 9 pm."
"I took a nap before coming here. You've been studying all day. Take rest, Wei Ying."
"No, you. And since when do you take naps?"
"Do not argue with me."
"Only if you stop being so unreasonable, Lan Zhan!"
"Fine", Lan Zhan glared, setting his jaw. "We will both lie down." He gracefully removed his sweater over his head and lay down sideways on the couch, leaving some space for Wei Ying beside him.
Wei Ying felt himself blushing again. What is up with him today?
Wei Ying felt uncharacteristically shy. He licked his lips and plopped down on the couch before he can think any further. He turned sideways, facing Lan Zhan, with his arm cushioning his head. Their faces were separated by mere inches between them. Lan Zhan glanced down at Wei Ying's lips before averting his gaze.
They spent a few seconds just lying like that, breathing in each other's air.
"Are you comfortable?" Wei Ying asked, his brow furrowing. "I know you don't -"
"I am comfortable, Wei Ying", Lan Zhan replied, gazing softly at him. Wei Ying gulped and suddenly found it hard to breath.
"Good", Wei Ying smiled like an idiot, his voice a bit hoarse. "That's good. I am comfortable too. Really comfortable. It's the better than the bunk bed in my dorm. At least in this way, I won't have Huaisang snoring like a monster from the other side of the room tonight."
"Wei Ying", Lan Zhan said, attempting to place his hand on Wei Ying's arm, before pulling away. "Sleep."
"Right", Wei Ying breathed out. "Sleep." He doesn't think he'll be getting any sleep tonight, he's more focused on trying not to get hard with Lan Zhan so close to his body. But it doesn't hurt to humor Lan Zhan.
Wei Ying closed his eyes and tried to think of Lan Qiren's horrendous beard.
After a few moments when Wei Ying was convinced that Lan Zhan had fallen asleep, that he felt the other boy shiver. Wei Ying opened his eyelids at once and saw Lan Zhan's nose had become red, probably from the cold.
"Lan Zhan?" Wei Ying whispered. "Are you cold?"
Without opening his eyes, Lan Zhan shook his head. But Wei Ying could clearly see him shivering slightly. He sighed at this stubborn boy.
"I can see you shivering, you fuddy duddy", Wei Ying said, fondly. "Got a coat in your bag?" Lan Zhan shook his head, curling into himself slightly.
"Alright", Wei Ying said, finally. "Come here."
With this Lan Zhan finally opened his eyes. "What?", he asked, his brow furrowed.
"Come here, Lan Zhan" Wei Ying spread his arms and beckoned him to come closer. Lan Zhan stared at him, not speaking.
"Oh for fuck's sake", Wei Ying grew out of patience and tugged Lan Zhan closer to him, and wrapped his arms around his shoulders. Lan Zhan immediately stiffened under his touch before relaxing slowly. Wei Ying rubbed his arms, trying to warm him.
"Wei Ying..."
"Go to sleep", Wei Ying shushed him, holding him tight. He suddenly wondered from where he was getting all his bravado from. Must be the dust. He freed one arm to tuck a strand of hair behind Lan Zhan's ear. Lan Zhan shivered again, this time probably not from the cold. Wei Ying had an irrational urge to press a kiss onto his forehead. No, that would probably be going too far.
Wei Ying held him right until his breath evened out and Lan Zhan fell into a deep sleep. Wei Ying also found that sleep came easier to him, entangled with the one boy from his class who always looked like he has a stick up his ass. They did not wake up even with the thunder and rain pouring just outside.
...
The next morning Wei Ying woke up with his face smushed against Lan Zhan's neck with his arms around his body. It took him a while to adjust to the bright light coming in from the window and to remember where the fuck he was and why the fuck was he cuddling with Lan Zhan.
Lan Zhan's eyes were closed, his face serene. His legs were tangled with Wei Ying's and his nose was a lovely bright red. Wei Ying wanted to rub the cold off of him. He tried to get up, but realised that there was no way to move without moving Lan Zhan.
Wei Ying cleared his throat, his heart beating frantically. He didn't want Lan Zhan to wake up and twist his face in disgust at their position. He didn't want Lan Zhan to wordlessly reject him and his feelings. Wei Ying wasn't sure his fragile heart could take that.
"Lan Zhan"? Wei Ying whispered. "The storm has stopped."
Lan Zhan shifted a little at Wei Ying's voice and blearily opened his eyes. In the next minute, his eyes opened all the way and he stared wild eyed at Wei Ying's face before dropping down towards their bodies entangled together, his ears turning a bright red.
Wei Ying braced himself for whatever Lan Zhan would say to him to break his heart.
But all Lan Zhan did was clear his throat and ask him for the time.
"Time?" Wei Ying asked, a bit disoriented. "Oh, I don't have my watch on me, I think it's about 6?"
At this Lan Zhan shot up on the couch, pulling Wei Ying up with him. "If it's 6 then the staff will be unlocking these doors at any minute now."
"Oh", Wei Ying said, a bit dumbly. He had totally forgotten about the whole being locked in the library part. On top of that, he really didn't want to fucking leave Lan Zhan's arms. He won't have an opportunity like this ever again, he needed to soak up in it all he could.
"Wei Ying?" Lan Zhan said, standing up to fix his shirt, while Wei Ying sat mutely on the couch, deprived of touch. "Do you have everything in your bag? Let us go then."
At these words Wei Ying suddenly found himself feeling a bit annoyed and heartbroken. Mostly heartbroken with his stomach squirming in an unpleasant way. He didn't know what he wanted from Lan Zhan and that was making him a bit crazy.
"Right", Wei Ying said, flatly. "Can't wait to get away from me fast enough can you?"
Lan Zhan paused to turn a startled look at him.
Wei Ying shook his head, feeling tears prickling the corner of his eyes. "You can go, Lan Zhan. I think I will... stay here for a while."
"Wei Ying what is wrong?" Lan Zhan asked him, one hand still holding the straps of his backpack.
When he didn't answer, Lan Zhan let his bag fall to the floor as he dropped down to his knees in a crouch, in front of Wei Ying sitting on the couch. Wei Ying inhaled a sharp breath.
"Wei Ying?" Lan Zhan prodded him softly, his brow furrowed in concern. "You seem.. did I do something?"
At this, Wei Ying barked out a laugh. God, Lan Zhan was being so considerate even now.
"No! Of course you didn't do anything. I'm sorry, Lan Zhan, you were actually very good to me last night." Wei Ying smiled. "Truly. If I were to be trapped in a storm again in this fucking library, I would pick you again to company me in a heartbeat, no notes."
Lan Zhan looked at him for a moment then said, "But something is bothering you."
Wei Ying gave an uncomfortable laugh. "It's truly nothing, Lan Zhan. I promise. Look, you better go now, I know you need the time to revise before our test today. Don't worry about me, I'm fine!"
Lan Zhan furrowed his brows at him and then gingerly placed his hand on Wei Ying's knee. Wei Ying's heart fluttered and he had to hold himself back not to place his hand upon Lan Zhan's.
"No", Lan Zhan said, simply.
"No?" Wei Ying asked, dumbfounded.
"No. I will not be leaving until you tell me what is bothering you", Lan Zhan said. "And how can I fix it."
"You cannot fix it, Lan Zhan", Wei Ying scoffed, staring up at the ceiling. "You cannot fix a broken heart."
Lan Zhan's hand tightened on his knee. "Someone broke your heart?" he asked, flatly.
Wei Ying laughed again. "Yeah sure. They did actually. They probably have no idea how or what their mere presence does to me. It drives me fucking wild, Lan Zhan. Sometimes it hurts to look at them, but I can't stop myself because not looking at them will drive me fucking crazy too." Wei Ying smiles down at Lan Zhan, to the face that he knows better than the back of his hand.
Lan Zhan leaned back suddenly from touching Wei Ying's knee and sat down on the dirty floor. Wei Ying acutely missed the feeling of Lan Zhan's touch and wondered why the fuck was Lan Zhan looking so worn out from exhaustion so early in the morning.
"Oh", Lan Zhan said desolately. After a few seconds of silence he said suddenly, "They are fucking stupid then."
Wei Ying almost fell off the couch in surprise. "Did I just hear you swear?!" he cried.
"No", Lan Zhan said, shortly. "But I mean it. They must be extremely obtuse to break your heart Wei Ying."
"You think so?"
Lan Zhan nodded his head, his eyes a bit red. "You.. are brilliant Wei Ying. The smartest person I have ever come across in my life. You challenge me in ways no one has ever done. You... make me rethink everything that I thought was correct. Last week I argued with my uncle because of you, Wei Ying. And it was exhilarating."
"What?! Professor Lan already hates me-"
"And", Lan Zhan interrupted him, very pointedly. "I have a confession to make. My brother did not cook the noodles for me that you had last night. I cooked it- for you, Wei Ying. I knew you were not eating properly and I was worried. For you. I stopped by your dormitory to give it to you, but no one answered the door. But I did not know you were stuck in the library, I truly was coming here to fetch my notes, it was... surprising to see you. A good surprise."
Wei Ying blinked at him, long since forgotten to breath. This was the most he had ever heard Lan Zhan speak and it was about how he cooked noodles to give to Wei Ying?!
"I do not know who it is that broke your heart, but they will come to regret it. I believe so. Wei Ying, you deserve everything."
Wei Ying had never really noticed how Lan Zhan said his name. It was like his name was something to be worshipped, to be revered, in Lan Zhan's lips.
He did not know when he started to move but the next second he knew, he was on the floor in Lan Zhan's lap, his arms around his neck with his lips pressing onto his. He heard a sharp inhale of breath before Lan Zhan's hands came around to cup the back of his head before their kiss deepened.
They stayed like that for what seemed like hours before Wei Ying leaned back with Lan Zhan chasing his lips desperately.
"Lan Zhan", Wei Ying said, grinning like an idiot.
"Wei Ying", Lan Zhan whispered, staring at his lips.
"Lan Zhan", Wei Ying said again before shaking his head and asking, "How long have you felt this way?"
"I do not know", Lan Zhan said honestly. He tightened his hands around Wei Ying. "Since the day you debated with me in that class or maybe since the first day I saw you. I do not know. My brain stops working when it comes to you."
"Wow", Wei Ying whispered. "You really are so chatty today."
"Mn", Lan Zhan hummed, smiling a bit before becoming serious again. "I know that someone broke your heart, Wei Ying, but if you give me a chance-"
He couldn't finish before Wei Ying let out a squeal of laughter. "Oh Lan Zhan", he gasped for air. "I was talking about you, you idiot! I thought I would die of my unrequited crush on you before you snapped me out of my yearning. But no more talking okay? Come here, let me kiss you some more."
Lan Zhan just gazed at him in wonder before Wei Ying grew impatient and slammed their lips together, his hand holding his chin. They could stay like that forever, he thought. With Wei Ying's mouth on him and their bodies entangled.
He would like to stay like this forever. He was certain that Wei Ying wouldn't mind.
