Work Text:
It's been some time since Chris' birthday had taken place, a few months to be exact. Jeong-in had shown him the star he bought for his birthday and ordered a super expensive telescope the same day, just so Chan could look at it even when the pollution in the city couldn't let him do so with his bare eyes.
Chan felt like the gift he was supposed to give to Jeong-in couldn't match up with the one he had received, which made him think he wasn't trying hard enough. He thought nothing in the world could surpass what Jeong-in had gifted him and, well, he was right, but not for Jeong-in.
For Jeong-in whatever Chan could come up with was the most precious thing in the world. Hell, even if Chris' gift would be a simple peck on the cheek – he'd be the happiest man on Earth, because he valued Chan as a person.
It was one of those days when Chris was working on his only day off – he had to finish the project of his due Monday, as he would get into big trouble if he wouldn't. That was the only reason why Jeong-in didn't pay his boss to let him go, albeit he wished he could do so.
It made Jeong-in more mad than it did Chan, but not because he couldn't get his present in time. The actual reason would be the fact that his precious partner was stuck at work instead of resting and spending his time with him.
Chris' mere existence was a gift for Jeong-in, but, sadly, he couldn't understand it.
The clock had hit one in the morning, Jeong-in's birthday already passed when Chan had gently opened the front door and got inside. He looked extra worn out, as if he had done more than just finishing his god forsaken project. Jeong-in was sitting on the sofa when Chris entered the room, getting up and to his partner the same second he had taken his shoes off.
Wrapping Chan in a tight hug, Jeong-in lifted him up and dragged to the sofa while all Chris could do is whine and giggle in his hold. He sat down, making Chris put his knees next to Jeong-in's sides and sit in his lap. He kissed Chris whole face at least a dozen of times before cupping it in his hands.
— You did more than you should've, hm? — all Chan could say to the right accusation was a prolonged whine and nuzzle to Jeong-in's hand. He looked not exactly disappointed, but sad for sure. Like when he had forgotten something important and remembered only when it was too late.
Jeong-in tilted his head to the right just a little before gently caressing Chan's cheek with his thumb.
— What's wrong, darling? — it didn't take too long for Chris to crack, he was too tired to protest or try to hide his true feelings.
— I think you won't like my present… — Chris looked somewhere down before letting his upper body fall on Jeong-in's, the latter immediately hugging his closer. — And I forgot to take it from post… Which is closed now. I totally messed up your birthday, and it's too late now, and it had already passed and-
— What did you get me? — it was like Jeong-in didn't care that it was technically Monday now and his birthday was yesterday. All he cared about was Chan and his feelings about all this silly situation. Chris nuzzled in Jeong-in's neck a bit before sighing and answering.
— It's not something big as what you've got me, but… I got you a vinyl player and a few vinyls of your favourite artists. — Chan could feel how Jeong-in's heartbeat sped up, a small "oh" leaving his lips after what Chris had said. He got a bit confused when he heard Jeong-in letting out a small giggle.
— How did you know I wanted to buy one? — Chris straightened himself and looked in Jeong-in's eyes with his wide open. He was bewildered that not only had he picked the perfect present, but that Jeong-in didn't say something like "why only a vinyl player".
— Wait, really? You're satisfied?
— Yea, why wouldn't I? Even if you'd give me a singular flower, I'd still love you to the Moon and back, darling. — after saying this, Jeong-in gently kissed Chan, feeling how his cheeks heated up. It was so cute how easily his partner could get flustered. After detaching himself from Chan's soft lips, Jeong-in had smiled, showing his dimples.
— Let's go to bed, shall we? You're free this whole week, I took care of everything. — Chris was confused, but Jeong-in could see the gratefulness at the back of his deep, dark eyes, and when he had smiled back it only confirmed his suspicions.
— I'll buy you a strawberry cake tomorrow, since I couldn't buy one today.
— Whatever you say, darling.
