Work Text:

Wren was running home again from a bee that probably didn't care about him but he's too egotistical to believe it didn't.

Just before he made it to his street, he saw his girlfriend he totally wasn't obsessed with, Lyn. She had texted him an hour ago, replying to the message he had sent 8 hours prior, saying that she would be asleep all day.

Obviously, Wren believed her. She had only lied to him a few hundred times and said she wouldn't do it again. Why wouldn’t he trust her?

But then he saw she was with someone else -- holding hands with someone else.

He stormed over with zero rational thoughts in his mind.

"Lyn!" he called out, voice strained with unshed tears, "W-who is that!?"

Lyn turned upon hearing Wren, her face barely showing any emotion. "My boyfriend, Ivance. I told you about him before," she replied, like it was the normalest thing ever.

Wren looked confused, "Huh...no you didn't-"

"Yes I did. Remember?" She interrupted.

"O-oh okay..." He accepted far too easily. He knew Lyn wouldn't try to gaslight him like she always did. And she was always right. "But I'm your boyfriend! How... How could you cheat on me? Is that why you haven't replied to my messages...?"

"Oh, my phone has been dead for hours," She said, pulling out her phone to respond to a friend's repost before putting it back in her pocket, "You know I'd never purposely ignore you."

"Okay... But what about him!" Wren accusingly pointed to Ivance, "Why are you dating him if you're with me?!"

"I'm polyamorous," She replied "Remember? I told you."

"What? No you-"

"Yes, I did." Lyn interrupted him again. "I can't believe you'd forget something so important about me..."

Wren put his hands up in defense. Did she tell him that? Was she actually poly?? Unfortunately, he'd still love her even if she had 10 other guys he didn't know about. "O-oh right! You did tell me. Sorry..."

"Yknow," Ivance started -- Wren honestly forgot he was there -- "You can join us. I don't mind."

.

.

.

She was Wren's girlfriend. What did he mean he didn't mind?!? Plus Wren was straight (if femboys and Varka didn't count) why would he want to be in a relationship with Ivance???

A thought entered Wren's mind for the first time starting the encounter. "I guess he doesn't look that bad-"

…What?

He wasn't gay. In fact he told his enemy, Royn, that he was homophobic (afraid of gay people). He couldn't be gay.

"I need to go do something that totally doesn't involve talking to another guy," Lyn started, breaking the tension between the other two. "Wren, apologize for me leaving."

"Why am I apologizing-"

"Do it."

"I-I'm sorry you're leaving, Lyn..." He didn't know why he was saying it but anything for his waifu- girlfriend.

She quickly left the two, answering a call with a "Hey babe,"

"It's nice that she can call her friends that," Wren thought. He wasn't delusional at all.

"Now that she's gone, Ivance spoke, voice lowering as he stepped closer to Wren until their faces were just a few inches apart, "I have you all to myself, my little omega..."

WHAT

"What the heck is wrong with you?!?" Wren exclaimed as he pushed Ivance away.

Wren started chasing Lyn, yelling out for his princesa though she was very much ignoring him.

Ivance placed a hand where Wren had pushed him, a smirk appearing on his face. He'd get Wren to love him back. No matter what.

. . .

Eventually, Wren lost Lyn and decided to go home to goon to- look at very normal art of Varka.

He opened his computer (that he should really give to Royn) and saw new text from Lyn.

Maybe she truly loved him!

Lyn: meet me at our spot tomorrow at 12

He smiled, sighing at how very much not vague and dry Lyn was.

Wren: SI MAMI ><

Was he a down-bad simp? Yes, yes he very much was.

He slept that night hugging his bodypillow that totally wasn’t Varka, dreaming of Lyn being a better person.

He woke up early today -- 11am! He needed to make sure he looked perfect for Lyn even though he'd be lucky if Lyn showed up on time.

"I don't deserve someone as perfect as her..." He thought as he sprayed his bee repellent on.

He made it there exactly at 12, standing awkwardly as he waited for Lyn.

A few moments later, he heard footsteps appear from behind him. He turned. "Lyn! I can't believe you came!" Even though she was the one who told him to come.

But it wasn't Lyn, it was the npc -- as he called him -- who stole his beloved waifu from him.

"What are you doing here?" Wren angrily questioned. "Where's Lyn?"

"Oh... She won't be coming," Ivance said. Was he purposely trying to sound ominous?

"Huh? Why?!?"

Ivance stepped closer, three long strides towards the omeg- Wren.

"Becuase," he started, breath warm against Wren's ear, "I killed her."

“...Did I hear that right?"

"W-what did you say...?" Wren asked, stepping away from him.

"I killed her, Wren." Ivance repeated, a sick smile on his face, "She's gone forever."

Wren collapsed to the ground. "No...no...she's- she can't be-" He stopped, unable to say what was now true.

"She is."

"Why would you do that?!?" Wren screamed, fists pounding the ground as tears fell onto the pavement.

"I did it for us,” Ivance knelt down to him, "Because I love you, Wren. More than she ever could."

Wren looked at him, eyes wide, "You did all of that for...me?"

Ivance nodded, his hand finding Wren's. "For us."

The two stood, hands still interlocked.

"Ivance...I-" He cut himself off. He wasn’t going to say it.

"Yes, my omega?"

"I...I love..."

Wait…

He saw something from behind Ivance. A black and yellow thing behind him.

OH NO…

He panicked, pushing Ivance again and sprinting away.

"Wren, Wait!" Ivance pathetically called out.

Wren continued running, looking back to the man he loved. Not realizing that somehow he was running straight off a flight of stairs onto a swarm of bees.

. . .

Ivance visited the cemetery on this day each year. Mourning the death of his lover and what could've been.

He placed a bouquet of flowers sprayed with bee repellent.

"I miss you, my sweet omega..." he barely whispered, tears streaking his face.

After a few minutes of talking he began walking away.

"Wren…

my dear omega...

I hope…

I hope that you're at peace…

and that the afterlife is…

bee-free."
