I'm Sorry, Benenice...

Summary:

A domestic disturbance causes a serious injury to a popular person in town.

Chapter 1: The Tragedy

Chapter Text

Berenice was a somewhat wonderful woman. She was kind, caring, empathetic, cute, and sunny.

That’s what made the tragedy so horrible.

Berenice had seemingly stumbled down the stairs. Her girlfriend, Zaira, was seemingly devastated.

Berenice was rushed straight to the hospital and, while she had survived, was in a state where she could only move her eyes.

Rossella, a friend of Berenice’s, went to her hospital room. Berenice was conscious.

Rossella sat on a chair next to her hospital bed.

“Hey…”

Berenice’s eyes moved in her direction.

“I miss you. Everyone in town misses you.”

Berenice blinked in response.

“Zaira… she also misses you.”

Rossella noticed how Berenice’s heart monitor seemed to go rapid at the mention of Zaira, and she became concerned.

Rossella calmed Berenice down for a bit.

“It’s ok… it’s ok…”

Once her heart monitor calmed down on the beating, Rossella went up.

“Do you… not want Zaira to come?”

Berenice blinked rapidly.

Rossella was concerned.

She knew that about a week before this, a neighbor made a domestic disturbance complaint on behalf of Berenice, who was too scared to do so.

(Flashback…)

Bernardino was working on dinner when he heard a frantic pounding at the door.

He went to the door and opened it.

At the front door was Berenice, trembling and tearing up.

“Oh, you look terrible. Why don’t you come in?”

Berenice was let in.

She sat on the couch next to Bernardino.

“Did something happen?”

Berenice paused for a bit before responding, “I… I can’t take it anymore… Zaira hit me with a pan because I didn’t give her enough attention… I’m scared of what she could do next!”

That was enough for Bernardino to call the police.

Cut back to now…

Berenice started to tear up, unable to say what happened because of her state.

Rossella seemed to have found what caused Berenice to end up like this; Zaira pushed Berenice down the stairs.

Rossella pulled out her phone and contacted Bernardino.

“Hello?”

“I don’t know if you know, but Berenice is in the hospital in a paralyzed state. Do you think-”

“Oh, hell yeah. Zaira is nothing but trouble! This abuse had been going on for months! Zaira needs the fucking death penalty!”

“I’d ask why, but I feel like I know why.”

They said goodbye to one another and ended their phone conversation.

Rossella knew for sure that she and their friends should avenge Berenice.
