Chapter Text

A new morning, and a new start. Gold woke up in her new bed, feeling the red bedsheets around her. She stirred at her alarm, which was a beautiful piano tune she imported just a few days before. Looking at her clock on her nightstand, she turned it off, glancing at the time. It was the early hour of 6:00 A.M., meaning that the sun must have risen already. She got up, putting on her slippers and twisting open her door. She slept decently for her first night over at the dorm. She stretched and hurried to Funneh’s room, which was just on the other side of the wall, near their living room.

Opening her friend’s room door, she found Funneh asleep, sprawled out on her bed. Her blanket was half on the floor, and her legs and arms stuck out at all angles, hogging the entire bed. She gladly snored as she slept.

She pounced on her roommate, making Funneh jolt awake. “Funneh, wake up! Wake upp!”

Funneh stirred, opening her eyes to her one and only best friend. “Gooold…” She yawned.

“Good morning!” She hummed, sitting on the edge of the bed.

“What time is it?” Funneh sat up in her comfortable sheets. She looked at the room around her. She was no longer in her home, but in the Yandere High dorms. Locking eyes with Gold, she admired her willpower to sleep with hair rollers. They were scattered all over her scalp, not one misplaced. All the different colors made Gold look silly.

“It’s 6:00!” Gold smiled, excited to start her day.

Funneh fell back into her bed, cuddling with her warm blankets and turning away from Gold. She could feel that her eyes were still tired, begging to stay shut for just a few more hours. “Why would you wake me up at 6:00?” She muttered, burying into her sheets, “Are you that excited for school?”

Gold’s eyes glinted, “Yes, I totally am! But since we’re so early, why don’t we go out for a quick run? Just around the dorms?”

Funneh covered her head with her blanket when she heard the word ‘run’. The warmth trapped inside felt nice, but eventually made it hard to breathe. “No way, Gold. Let me sleep.”

“Oh, come on!” Gold ripped the blanket off Funneh, the cold air letting her breathe again. Funneh disappointingly sat up, “I don’t feel like going. I’m tired.”

“You lazy bum, get up!” Gold sat up, taking Funneh’s hand with her. Funneh reluctantly got out of bed, her exposed legs and arms hitting the cool air. “Fine,” She sighed.

“Before we go outside, let’s change out of our pajamas. I don’t wanna run out there like this.” Gold led Funneh to their washing machines with Funneh taking heavy steps, half-asleep. Gold happily unbuttoned her shirt while Funneh slowly slipped off her pajamas, throwing them into their washing machine. Funneh reached at the cabinet above to grab detergent for both of them as she dispensed her own for her load of laundry.

Both of them had started their washing machines as the quiet tumbling filled the air. “‘Kay, ready to go on a jog, Gold?”

“Yup, let’s go!” She nodded. The two walked to their front door together, looking at the early pale blue sky. Funneh opened their dorm door to be greeted with fresh morning air, which was crisp and refreshing. It woke her up, improving her mood.

“I wonder who our neighbors are, since this is a new dorm.” Funneh wondered, gazing at the large wooden gazebo stationed in the middle of the dorm’s communal garden. “I’m excited to meet them!” Gold replied.

As Funneh turned, she saw the large, paved path leading to Yandere High School. The gray concrete led to the terracotta colored school, which looked huge to Funneh. She proudly smiled at the sight. “There’s our school!”

Funneh passed by the tall hedges that revealed a wooden sign saying ‘FOR RENT’ as well as a phone number. “Oh, there’s still dorms for rent? I thought they were filled already.”

“Hmm, I guess so,” Gold answered, glancing through the glass and at the empty dorm. There were multiple crates and very simple furniture. She assumed the dorm was being used as storage for Yandere High since no one was occupying it.

“Do you think there’s going to be a new student, then?” Funneh turned to Gold, slowing down her pace.

“I hope so! That’d be exciting,” She grinned. The two approached the front of the vacant dorm, looking at the inside furnishings. They eventually trailed away, continuing their steady morning jog around the other campus dorms. Funneh admired the blooming flowers scattered on the field as well as the tall trees. “Look at the flowers, Gold.”

“They’re beautiful,” She replied, jogging alongside Funneh.

Funneh panted, growing tired of jogging, despite only being outside for a few minutes. “We should head back and make some food. I’m getting tired.”

Gold nodded, “Yeah, I’m pretty hungry too.” With their mutual agreement, they looped back around the dorms and made their way back to their own.

“Wait up, Funneh!” Gold yelled as Funneh snickered, stopping at their front door. Funneh looked behind her to see Gold far back as she took her time to catch her breath. She wiped her forehead and ruffled her hair as Gold approached.

“You should go take a shower since we’re pretty sweaty right now,” Funneh suggested. Gold agreed, making her way inside and into their shared bathroom. “Definitely.”

“And I’ll make sandwiches while you shower!” Funneh shouted as Gold locked the bathroom door. She walked over to their fridge, which was relatively empty, only containing a few essentials. She talked to herself as she prepared their lunches.

“Can you make a fruit smoothie, too?” Gold shouted from the bathroom, which Funneh barely caught. “A fruit smoothie?” She chuckled, “Okayy!”

Funneh grabbed an apple and a few watermelon slices, briefly cutting them and throwing them into their blender. She started blending just as their toast popped up, signifying it was ready. She left the toast to cool off while she cooked up a slice of beef for herself, using only salt and pepper since their resources were low.

Gold walked out of their bathroom, freshly showered in her new clothes. “Hey, Gold, did you want a fish sandwich or a cheese sandwich?” Funneh greeted her, finishing up her beef.

Gold’s face grew sour, “Ew, fish? No way, can you make me a grilled cheese, please?”

Funneh laughed exasperatingly. “We’re running out of time, so I’ll just make you a plain cheese sandwich.”

Gold pouted, sitting on one of their barstools. Funneh got herself busy making their lunches. “Since you don’t like fish, I’ll have the fish sandwich for lunch.”

Funneh quickly assembled their sandwiches and sealed them up in plastic bags. “Here’s your cheese sandwich, Gold,” She handed it over the counter. Funneh also grabbed two cups for each of their smoothies, quickly pouring the drink in. She took the two slices of toast out, putting one on her plate and one on Gold’s.

“Thanks, Funneh!” She smiled, happily digging into her slice.

“Mhm,” Funneh nodded as she shoved down her own piece of toast. She put her sandwich into her navy blue backpack, zipping it up as she chugged down her smoothie.

Funneh popped her last bite into her mouth, dusting off the crumbs on her hands. “And make sure not to eat the last cookie in the jar! It’s mine, okay?”

“Ugh, but I didn’t even get to have any! You probably ate the entire jar, too.” Gold rolled her eyes.

“No way!” Funneh gasped. “Shoot, I think it’s time for school. Hurry up, Gold!”

Gold quickly finished her toast, and Funneh went back into her dark room to grab some dollar bills from her drawer. Inside the drawer were other important things to her, like keepsakes or smaller miscellaneous things. She quickly left her room, closing the door shut.

“Ready to go, Gold?”

“Of course I am!” She hopped off her stool, throwing her backpack on. As the two left their dorm, Funneh briefly opened their mailbox and found their sophomore schedule. It had a nice mahogany red leather cover and a sheet of encased paper inside. “Hey, our schedules are here!”

The two slowly walked as they read through their schedules. “I have Language, Biology, Chemistry, and P.E. How about you, Gold?” Funneh closed her schedule as Gold’s face lit up.

“Sweet! We both match!” Gold also closed her schedule, shaking Funneh out of excitement. “This is so exciting!”

“Cool!” Funneh smiled, glad that their schedules matched. Gold clasped her hands together, “Now we have every class together!”

The two walked side by side down the path that led to Yandere High. Just in the distance was the large school with other students approaching the entrance, excitement and nerves bubbling all around. Gold’s eyes caught onto a large white ice cream truck parked just outside the school, which had a short line of other high schoolers.

“Ooh, look! An ice cream truck!” Gold immediately dragged Funneh along by her arm, quickly approaching the white truck.

“No way, there’s ice cream?” Funneh excitedly grabbed the money in her pocket, determined to place an order. The two stood on the side, examining the vast menu. “I can buy you an ice cream, but you have to pick a cheap flavor,” Funneh turned to Gold.

She sighed, “Fine. I’ll have the strawberry, then.”

“And I’ll have the coconut for myself!” Funneh smiled, approaching the vendor. “Hello, what ice cream flavor would you like today? We have plenty to choose from!”

He was surprisingly energetic for the early hour. “Hm, I’ll have a coconut and strawberry ice cream, please!”

The vendor quickly turned around and dispensed the two flavors into different cups, and Funneh put the money on the small counter. The vendor put down the two swirls of white and pink and quickly counted Funneh’s money.

“Thank you, sir!” Funneh took the two cups that had small spoons sticking on the side as they bid farewell to each other. She handed the pink swirl to Gold, who happily accepted it.

The two quickly ate their ice cream on the spot, savoring the sweet, creamy flavors. The cold cream instantly woke them up, making their tongues numb. They passed by a couple who seemed to be enjoying their own icecreams, one of them commenting how they loved bananas.

“Who eats banana-flavored ice cream?” Funneh muttered.

“She looks like a banana,” Gold joked. Funneh hit her playfully.

The two looked up at the sound of the bell. It radiated from the inside of the school just enough for them to hear it. Panic set into their faces as Funneh turned to Gold. “Shoot, I think the bell just rang!”

“We’d better hurry,” Gold picked up her pace. Funneh quickly looked at her schedule again to find their first class, which was Language Arts in room 120. They quickly went through the doors, marvelling at the large campus.

“Gosh, how do we even get to our class?” Funneh looked around at the different hallways. A teacher had the luxury of being right next to the front gate, so she watched as all the late students scurried to find their classrooms. She clicked her tongue and turned back to her class. “This is why you need to be on time, kids.”

Somehow, the two girls finally found their classroom after a long walk. Funneh cautiously opened the door, revealing a small classroom. Most of the other students were already sitting, some of their heads turning to see Funneh and Gold walk in late.

The classroom only held around nine students, including Funneh and Gold. They awkwardly took their seats in the front row, the only empty seats being separated by someone in the middle. Funneh chose the one to the right, while Gold sat to the left.

Their teacher was a relatively tired man who had long brown hair and a black suit on. He sat by his desk in the corner and looked up at his students. “Welcome to Language Arts 2015-2016. My name is Mr. Draco, and I will be your teacher this year. Because some of you are already late on the first day of school, please introduce yourselves first as punishment.”

Funneh and Gold groaned as heads turned towards them. “It’s not our fault that we got lost!”

“At the front of the class, please, and alone.”

Gold reluctantly sat up as Funneh watched, just as nervous. She walked to the front of the chalkboard, clearing her throat. Gold already hated this class.

“Hi everyone, I’m Gold…” She meekly greeted, “And um… It’s my first year here, but I promise I won’t be late anymore!” Gold hurried back to her seat out of nervousness and embarrassment. Funneh laughed out of anxiety as she slowly walked to the same spot Gold was.

She took a deep breath before opening her eyes to see all of her classmates. “Hi guys, I’m Funneh, and I swear I’m always on time for class… Today we just thought it was a good idea to get ice cream, but I guess it wasn’t a good idea…” She turned to her teacher, who watched her. “Uh… sorry, Mr. Draco?” She promptly walked back in shame as Gold giggled.

“Now that we have that over with…” Mr. Draco straightened some papers on his desk as Funneh and Gold tried to whisper to each other. The only thing in their way was the boy who sat between them. “Your first assignment will be to write a story for the upcoming novelist competition.”

Funneh groaned internally. “So lame,” She muttered. Gold, too, felt annoyed at receiving an assignment on their first day of school. “It will be a minimum of five pages long.”

The class burst out in chatter, mostly about how outrageous the requirements were. Funneh raised her hand as Mr. Draco let her talk. “Do you have any books for us at least?”

“You can find any resources in the school library.” Funneh slouched at his answer. She didn’t want to spend any extra time at school than she needed, but she got annoyed that her teacher didn’t even give them any resources. She’d have to find them all on her own.

“You have the rest of class to work on this assignment.”

Finally, after an hour and a half of goofing off and writing two sentences, the bell rang. Funneh and Gold jumped out of their seats and quickly made their way out of the classroom, merging with the crowded hallways. Funneh pulled out her schedule again. “Next, we have Biology in room 224.”

“So the second floor? We’d better hurry, then.” Gold latched onto Funneh’s arm as the two navigated for a staircase. “Ugh, I’m hungry,” Funneh complained.

“Already? Just wait for lunch, we can’t be late for second block.”

“I know, I know. I really need to find those vending machines, though.”

Funneh and Gold walked together down the long hallways, eventually finding a vending machine at a corner. Funneh lit up as she quickly inserted $2 and pressed the bread button. A small piece of packaged bread fell out as she happily unwrapped it and dug in.

The two found the main staircase as they followed the crowd upstairs. As they reached the second floor, they even spotted Mr. Draco walking to class. They stifled their laughs as they navigated to their Biology classroom, making it in just before their teacher.

Inside their classroom were a few desks as well as lab tables with sinks and different contraptions. The seats were in duos, so the girls decided to sit right next to each other. Mr. Draco walked to the front table, making the class grow quiet.

“Hello, everyone. I am Mr. Draco, and here are the printouts for this week’s lab. Today, you will be dissecting a pig.”

Funneh raised her hand again, “But it says that we’re directing rabbits on the board?”

Mr. Draco grew silent, his eyes becoming lost as his mind wandered. Was this job as truly fulfilling as he thought it’d be? Should he just quit and pursue something else? Or stick with this stability and live an empty life?

As the class waited for his answer, he snapped back to reality, pushing aside his thoughts. “You will be receiving detention for talking back.”

Funneh gasped as Gold looked at her slyly. “You will work individually for this lab, Funneh. And you will be dissecting in detention.” He looked at the brunette girl next to Funneh. “Gold too.”

Gold’s jaw dropped as Funneh ooh-ed at her. “But I didn’t do anything!”

Mr. Draco paid no attention to their banter as he handed out the printouts to each student. The two bickered quietly as the rest of the class examined their sheet of paper.

“You will have the rest of class to dissect, and your paper will be due next week.” The girl sitting behind Funneh stared at the two in front of her with a weird look. Funneh caught on, scoffing. “The tools will be at the front of the class. You may begin.”

Funneh and Gold sat in their seats, watching the rest of the class come up to the front to grab their supplies. But in the corner of their eye, they saw their teacher leave quickly. Funneh raised her eyebrows. “Did he just leave class?”

“Uh, I think so…” Gold replied.

Funneh got up from her seat with Gold following as well. They lined up to get their dissecting tools. “We already have detention, so what do we have to lose?” Funneh mischievously looked at Gold. “Let’s just dissect right now. It’s not like Mr. Draco is watching.”

They eventually made it to the front as they looked inside the trays of tools. Funneh lit up, grabbing a cleaver. There were also multiple rabbits, alive rabbits. Funneh and Gold didn’t know what to do; they didn’t have the heart to kill a living animal.

Both of them grabbed a rabbit, letting it out of the box. They immediately jumped away, appreciating their freedom. Funneh kept taking more and more out, the classroom floor becoming riddled with differently colored rabbits. Their classmates yelled in fear, some even annoyed at the trouble Funneh was causing.

Funneh kept releasing all of the rabbits; eventually, none of them were in the box any longer. Gold winced. “Funneh, Mr. Draco is going to be so mad at you.”

Unfortunately, their homeroom teacher came back inside. He opened the door to see a rabbit sprint out as he froze at seeing the mess in the classroom. Funneh and Gold looked up at the door in shock, neither of them saying anything.

Mr. Draco was furious. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

The rest of the class panicked as they all took their seats. “Funneh and Gold, go to the principal’s office.”

The two girls winced at each other as they shamefully exited the classroom. They hurried down the stairs to the first floor, arriving at room 117.

“Well, this is the detention room…” Funneh pressed her lips together.

“Ugh, I’m scared.” Gold fiddled with a lock of hair.

“Hopefully these people aren’t too bad…” Funneh crossed fingers. She slowly opened the door and let Gold take the pleasure of walking in first.

The detention classroom was clearly not looked after. Small vines were growing in the corners of the walls, mixed with spiderwebs, and even the floor tiles were broken. In some spots, there were indents and cracks, and some of it seemed to be chipped away to reveal the concrete underneath. By the door was a police officer on his phone, most likely just to scare the kids into behaving.

A girl glanced at the boy beside her, but he clearly didn’t want to talk. Her gaze wandered to the door where Funneh and Gold came in. To her, they looked like relatively good students. It was probably their first time in detention, which made her even more interested. The two made their way to the desks as they sat next to each other. To Funneh’s right was a girl with long brown hair and a panda hoodie on. She was busy chewing gum while aggressively tapping her phone, but quickly turned to Funneh as soon as she sat down.

“You have detention too? Lame,” She smacked on her gum. She went back to texting on her phone, crossing her legs.

Funneh replied, trying to be friendly to have someone to talk to. “… So, why are you in detention?”

She sighed, “For talking too much. Did you know I’m the most popular girl in school? Everyone knows my name.”

“… And that is?”

“Hm, Olivia, but never call me that. Just call me Liv.”

“Alright, Liv… I’m Funneh. So, you’re the most popular girl in school?”

“Yup!” She popped her gum, “And I can make you popular too. You just have to do me a little favor.” She smiled.

Funneh was curious about what she had to say. “Well, what is it?”

Liv glanced to her side at the boy again. He was clearly in a bad mood and refused to get off his phone. “Do you see that guy sitting next to me?” Funneh nodded. “His name is James. Long story short, he gave me a pendant. To be honest, it wasn’t that pretty, but I lost it, and now he’s mad at me. He probably won’t take to prom anymore,” She pouted.

“So, did you want me to find it?”

“Duh! What else? It’s probably in the boys' locker room.” Funneh inched away after hearing her statement. “Don’t ask, okay? Just sneak in and grab it for me,” Liv scoffed.

“Okay…” Funneh suspiciously looked at Liv.

She smiled, “Great! After detention ends, sneak into the boys' locker room and find the pendant. I’ll meet you at the rooftop during lunch on Friday!”

Their conversation ended as Liv went back to her phone, and Funneh turned to Gold. “Hey, Gold, would you sneak into the boys' locker room with me to find a pendant?”

Gold furrowed her brows at Funneh’s outrageous suggestion. “No way, Funneh! You’re seriously going to get in trouble. What are you thinking?”

“Okay, well, detention is almost over, and she says she’ll make us super popular!”

“I don’t care about things like that, Funneh.”

“Come on, Gold! We’re gonna be popular! Don’t you think it’s worth it? We just have to meet her on the rooftop during lunch on Friday.”

“No, it’s not worth it, Funneh.” Gold shook her head. “This sounds really risky.”

“You just have to follow my lead, okay?” Funneh reassured.

Gold sighed. “You’re always getting us into trouble.”

Funneh laughed at her remark as the bell rang. The students in detention were more than happy to leave, including Funneh and Gold. Liv gave Funneh a wink before taking her backpack and leaving.

Although Liv instructed them to go after detention, the two girls decided to eat to keep up their energy instead and push the pendant to later. They walked into the busy cafeteria, a line forming at the counter where they handed out food. Funneh was hoping she could get some extra food, but the rabbit leg stew didn’t look appetizing enough to her.

“Hmm, where should we sit?” Funneh scanned the cafeteria as the tables slowly started to fill with hungry teenagers.

“Let’s sit over there! By the girl by herself?” Gold suggested, as Funneh followed. A girl with a long black ponytail and a Japanese sailor school uniform was sitting by herself. Funneh and Gold pulled out a chair next to her, catching her by surprise.

She quickly wiped her mouth. “Hello!”

“Hi! I’m Gold.” She smiled, zipping open her backpack to take out her sandwich.

“-And I’m Funneh!”

The girl gently smiled. “My name is Yandere. Funneh, your outfit is really cute!”

Funneh looked down at her blue letterman jacket, the design making her smile as she recalled her memories with it. “Thanks, you’re really nice, Yandere.”

She grew shy at Funneh’s comment, digging into her home bento. Gold looked at her intriguingly, “So, are you new here? Cause we are!”

Yandere gently nodded in affirmation. She picked up a mini sausage with her chopsticks, stuffing it in her mouth hungrily. Gold hummed, watching her eat.

“We came all the way from Canada! I’m guessing you live here?” Funneh finished chewing her fish sandwich, swinging her legs underneath the table in excitement.

“Yeah, I’ve lived here since I was a baby. Are you two sophomores?”

“How’d you know?” Funneh tilted her head.

“I heard from my sister that there are a lot of sophomores this year.” She smiled at the thought of her sister.

“Makes sense,” Gold took a bite of her sandwich. “Yandere, did you make that yourself?”

Yandere’s eyes glinted. “Yeah, I woke up early to make it.”

“Whoa, you’re a good chef, then! That looks delicious!” Funneh grinned, leaning over to stare at Yandere’s packed lunch. There were two rice balls wrapped in seaweed, mini sausages, and a piece of fried chicken, all lying on top of a sheet of lettuce.

The bell rang across the school as students took it as a signal to finish up. Funneh and Gold excused themselves from Yandere, waving goodbye to each other. The cafeteria became crowded once again as swarms of high schoolers were crowding at the doors to go to their next block.

Funneh and Gold looked at their schedule to see their next class. “Okay… Seems like we have Chemistry in room 344.”

Gold shut her schedule. “We’d better go, then. Third floor, right?”

“Yup,” The two walked to the nearby staircase in the school lobby. Funneh spoke up, “We seriously can’t be late anymore for our classes. Mr. Draco is gonna kill us.”

As the two girls reached the third floor, they took a turn and walked down the locker-filled hallways. They talked about their newfound hatred for their homeroom teacher, Mr. Draco. Funneh turned a corner, “Imagine he fails us our entire semester!”

“Oh my gosh, I hope not,” Gold laughed. The two shortly arrived at 344, opening the door to see Mr. Draco and their classmates. The classroom mainly consisted of lab tables with two students at each. Funneh and Gold chose the table at the very front of the room.

“Good afternoon, class. Welcome to Sophomore Chemistry. Today, our lab will be making a Potion of Weakness.”

Funneh and Gold turned to each other in excitement. “Your lab partners will be assigned. Gold is with Dacks, Funneh will be with Neve, and Honf and Lily will be partners. Please meet up with your assigned partner.”

The small class of six shuffled around, each person eventually finding their partner. Gold went to the middle table with Dacks as they briefly exchanged greetings. Funneh went to the back, meeting up with Neve.

“Please finish your potion by the end of class. You may start.”

Each of the girls discussed with their partners as the pairs went to grab supplies. The main supplies were fermented spider eye, redstone, and a bottle of water. Funneh found an extra ingredient at the back of a box, which she secretly grabbed without Neve seeing.

“Once you are finished, drop off your potion at the classroom box.”

Mr. Draco’s voice drowned in the chatter and clinking of glass that the students were making. Funneh and Neve put the ingredients into the bottle of water, waiting for the brewer to do its work. Funneh leaned over and tapped Gold’s shoulder, making her turn around.

“Should we find the pendant before we go to P.E?”

Gold scrunched her face up, thinking. “But Funneh, we can’t be late anymore.”

“Come on, we’ll be quick! I promise.”

Gold reluctantly agreed. “Fine, but make sure no one catches us.” She turned back to her lab partner. The two took out their potion from the brewer, looking at the now pink potion that was once clear water.

“Hey Funneh, I’m done with mine!” Gold excitedly turned to Funneh, holding up the glass flask. It had the swirly pink potion in it, shining like a gem. Funneh looked up at Gold’s potion, admiring the pretty color. “Nice! I found a little something, by the way…” She discreetly pulled out the bag of gunpowder she found, the gray powder crushed up in the bag. Gold’s eyes lit up as Funneh showed her the gunpowder. “If we add this to our potion, we’ll do way better than everyone else! Then, we’ll get an A for sure.”

Gold gasped, “100%! Come on, put it in my potion.” She held out the flask to Funneh, who opened the bag and poured in a chunk of gunpowder. They quickly left the flask on the lab table as they nervously ran away, watching it slowly bubble.

Funneh and Gold’s partners saw their flask and moved away just enough to avoid the explosion. The explosion boomed in the classroom, smoke filling the air. Lily and Honf ducked at the sudden sound, and Funneh and Gold intently watched from the classroom door.

Mr. Draco coughed, fanning out the air in front of him. He made the rest of the class evacuate, the seven of them standing just outside the door. Mr. Draco watched the smoke clear up, revealing a large crack in the wall near the explosive potion’s flask. His eyes widened with anger and shock, burying his face in his hands from the stress.

“Funneh and Gold, go to the principal’s office. Now.”

The two girls winced at the damage they caused. Funneh whined, “But we can’t keep going to the Principal’s office! Come on, we’ll fix it, Mr. Draco.”

“Go, now.”

Funneh and Gold stepped away from the classroom meekly, leaving as the remaining students stood there in shock. “This semester is going to be a bad one. I can feel it,” Mr. Draco sighed.

Gold huffed, “Funneh, you’re making us look really bad.”

“Sorryy!” Funneh stretched her arms in the air, but suddenly turned. “Hey, did you want to go find the pendant instead of going to the principal’s office?”

“Since we’re in trouble anyway, might as well…” Gold huffed as the two of them descended the staircase. They passed by the few students who were wandering outside of class as they tried to navigate the boys’ locker room.

As they turned a corner, they stopped at the girls’ locker room. They inferred that the boys’ locker room was there as well. “Hey, Gold! I think it’s over here.”

Gold and Funneh casually walked by the girls' locker room and stopped in front of the boys’. They looked around in case anyone had spotted them; luckily, the hallways were pretty empty. Funneh took a deep breath. “Okay, act manly, or something.”

“How do I act like a man when I clearly look like a girl?”

“You can me a man lady…” Funneh discreetly opened the door. Immediately, they smelled old sweat, cheap deodorant, weed, and something sour. Funneh had to cover her nose as they walked in, Gold’s face scrunching up as she smelt the putrid odor. Because class had already started, the locker room was empty. They cautiously looked around, hiding behind walls, lockers, and shelves. “Where do you think the pendant would be, Gold?”

“Ugh, I don’t know. I don’t want to search through every locker and dig through dirty clothes. Imagine how sweaty their uniforms are! Ugh.”

“Maybe we can check the showers? Like, maybe someone dropped it in one.”

“Let's just hurry...”

As they examined each shower, Funneh found one with a small box on the tile floor. “Gold, come over here! I think I found it,” She picked it up. It was a small wooden box, slightly damp from the remaining water on the floor. Gold hurried over as Funneh opened the latch. Inside, it contained the ruby pendant with gold wire holding it in place. Funneh gently lifted it out of the box, the ruby glinting under the lights.

The two heard a door unlock, making Funneh shut the box. They rushed out of the locker room, breathing in the decently-smelling air outside in the hallways. They stood just outside the locker room next to a water fountain.

“Oh my gosh, we almost just got caught.” Funneh clutched the box close to her chest under her jacket.

“It smelled so bad in there, I was suffocating!” Gold fanned herself with her hands.

“Liv said to give it to her on Friday, so let’s just head to P.E.” Funneh looked around before leaning into Gold’s ear, “But why would she call it ugly? It was a gorgeous pendant.”

“Finally, we’re at the gym,” Funneh held onto her backpack as she saw the gathering high schoolers sitting on the gymnasium bleachers. They spotted their familiar homeroom teacher with a group of kids, whom Funneh and Gold presumed to be their class. They merged into the crowd, standing to the side. Everyone was still nervous and jittery on their first day of school, and Funneh and Gold were no different.

“Everyone must change into their gym uniforms. Please be out in five minutes.”

Funneh and Gold followed the crowd of other girls to their locker room, even though they had just arrived. It smelled slightly better than the boys’ locker room; at least there was some sort of perfume in the air. They chose two lockers right next to each other, taking out their uniform from their backpacks. Funneh took off her jacket as Gold unbuttoned hers, putting on the plain gym uniform.

Funneh stood by as she waited for Gold to finish up. The uniform was just a white tee and black shorts, but Funneh and Gold brought an extra change of sneakers as well. The girls in the locker room slowly started to move to the gym, where Funneh and Gold followed.

Set up across the gym was a parkour course, a blue mat underneath to cushion falls. Mr. Draco stood by the start of the course, holding a bat for some unknown reason. His class eventually formed with a combination of girls and boys, all dressed in their uniforms.

“Today, you will be completing an obstacle course for P.E. If you touch the blue mat, you must restart. Please try to finish by the end of class.”

The P.E class murmured as they observed the long obstacle course. Mr. Draco made them form a line with Funneh and Gold being in the near back. Because there wasn’t enough space, the line curved, giving Funneh and Gold a view of the front.

As Mr. Draco blew his whistle, the noise reverberated in the gym as the first person in line jumped over the first hurdle. Quickly, the rest of the line followed, keeping small gaps between each other.

Soon enough, it was Funneh and Gold’s turn. Funneh took a breath before running and leaning over the three hurdles with ease. Gold followed behind, doing the same. Next, Funneh climbed the short rock climbing wall, heaving over and landing on the launch pad. She bounced off on her feet, safely landing on the next section. Gold finally got over the rock climbing wall as she launched herself onto the pad, letting her bounce off.

Gold raced past Funneh, climbing up the stairs and throwing herself onto the jump pad to bounce onto the parkour course. “Hey, no fair! Wait up!”

Funneh and Gold sat against the wall, regulating their breaths and drinking water. Funneh yawned, stretching. “I’m pretty tired, Gold. Do you have food?”

“I have some in my backpack. I’ll give it to you in the locker room,” She drank from the water fountain. “Can we get some fresh air?”

Funneh nodded as the two tiredly exited the gym. The door led to the front of the school, where they could see their dorms in the distance. The light blue sky had a certain liveliness that woke them up. Just to the side was a black-haired boy and a girl with indigo hair having a deep conversation. The two girls peeked over, but quickly averted their gaze as the boy caught on.

Funneh and Gold took in the fresh air and beautiful summer sky. Sure, it was a bit warm, but it was much better than the stuffy, sweaty gym. Funneh looked ahead at the trees and saw someone sitting against one.

“Wait… Do you see that?” Gold’s attention piqued at Funneh’s question, “Is that Yandere?”

Funneh looked at her suspiciously. “Why is she sitting there alone? Is she looking at us?”

Just in the distance was a girl with a black ponytail and a familiar sailor uniform. She sat by the trunk of a tree, staring straight at Funneh and Gold’s direction ominously. The two huddled together and headed back inside the gym, glancing back at the mysterious girl who was skipping class.

As they headed back inside, the bell rang once again, signaling the end of the school day. Funneh’s face lit up in relief, taking Gold by the arm and dragging her to the locker rooms.

The two briefly changed and gladly exited the school, walking straight ahead to their dorms. They passed by the ice cream truck that was still stationed at the same spot, stepping onto the familiar pavement leading to the YHS dorms.

“What classes do you think Rainbow has?” Funneh clasped her hands together behind her head, leaning as she walked.

“I don’t know, do you think she even attended today? I never saw her in the hallways or anything.”

“Maybe not, but I haven’t checked if she texted me yet.” Funneh opened their dorm door, the cool air greeting them. “I think we should get started on dinner.”

Gold sat down at their computer desk, powering on their PC. “Yeah, I’m pretty hungry.”

Funneh peeked over at their computer screen just to see Gold scrolling around on MineBay. Various used and new items popped up, ranging from kitchen supplies to cool collectables. She quickly went back to the kitchen, scanning the fridge.

“We seriously need more food. And money,” She sighed, taking out some cheese. “I’ll make that grilled cheese for you, and a baked potato for me.”

“Yay!” Gold grinned, still examining the items she pulled up on MineBay. “I wish we had enough money to buy this stuff,” She sighed, dreaming of how nice life would be without worrying about expenses. She barely had a few dollars on her, just enough to get food. She could only dream of buying extra things, like room decor or fun contraptions.

Funneh quickly threw a slice of bread and cheese onto a pan, the heat slowly browning the bread. She put some salt and pepper on the cheese before sandwiching it with another slice of bread. She flipped the sandwich on the buttered pan, smiling after seeing the golden brown crisp that had formed on one of the sides.

Both Funneh's and Gold’s dinner was quickly finished. Both were steaming hot as Funneh gave the grilled cheese to Gold on a plate. The two girls chose to sit on a couch and eat dinner. A comfortable silence grew over the dorm.

“This place is pretty nice, huh?” Funneh looked up from her potato at their shared dorm.

“Yeah, we got a pretty nice place.” Gold smiled. “Hey, should we visit Rainbow?”

Funneh’s head clicked, remembering their friend from Canada also came to live in the YHS dorms. “Right! Let’s go!”

The two set down their plates, hurrying out the door for one final adventure for today. The sun started to set outside, casting a soft, warm glow. Just across their building was Rainbow’s dorm. It had the same tall hedges and wooden mailbox, just like everyone else. They stood in front of Rainbow’s room, looking at the sleeping girl through the glass.

“No way, she’s still sleeping?” Funneh rang the doorbell in hopes of waking their friend up.

“She’s dead asleep,” Gold added worryingly. Funneh kept pressing the doorbell, the ring repeating and repeating. The girl wouldn’t budge, still sleeping soundly under her red covers. Funneh tried to open her front door, but tumbled in, surprised. Rainbow didn’t lock her front door, which was concerning, but Funneh was glad.

She grinned, “... She left her door open!”

Gold followed Funneh inside, hurriedly closing the front door. They examined her living room, which had a pink loveseat couch and plenty of bookshelves. It wasn’t too different than theirs, but Rainbow’s kitchen was clearly much more pristine than theirs. Funneh and Gold enviously admired the marble counters.

“Wow, her kitchen is way better than ours.” Funneh sighed, skipping to the fridge.

“Right? I’m jealous.” Gold leaned against the counter. Funneh lit up when she saw Rainbow’s stash of food. “Gold, she has food in her fridge. Should we take some?”

Gold nodded in agreement. Like the hobos they were, Funneh and Gold immediately took the food for themselves. There were packs of grapes as well as fresh strawberries and bananas, even some bright red cherries.

“Don’t you think she’ll notice?” Gold held a few boxes of strawberries and a bag of grapes.

“She’s sleeping, it’s okay.” Funneh popped a grape into her mouth, cherries and bananas in hand. “That’s what you get for missing school, Rainbow!”

As the sun dipped lower, casting a warm golden glow over the horizon, Funneh and Gold wrapped up their day. After putting away their stolen fruits, they enjoyed a refreshing shower, washing away the dust of their adventures. The two put on their freshly washed pajamas, bidding each other goodnight and leaving for their respective bedrooms. Neither of them knew about the adventure that was in store for them as they slept with peaceful minds.
