Work Text:

He feels like a rabid animal. Like a starved predator finally being let out of captivity and set free to hunt. Mechanical grinding, chewing and swallowing is all that's left for him as his surroundings dissappear and his brain finally shuts the fuck up.

He feels as if he's being engulfed in a gentle fog. It's so soft, so accepting, so pure - nothing like what he's so used to seeing in his life. Sweaty, dirty and filthy humans always surround him. He hides away from them in this fog. It's almost... motherly in a very weird way.

He's made a mess with all of the cake frosting, but he can't bring himself to care. Corey vaguely remembers going to the store to get something for his bandmates so they could drink themselves into oblivion, remembers seeing this cake, and remembers the fog creeping into his mind as his hands reached out and grabbed it and placed it in his cart. He doesn't even remember if he got the fucking booze. Probably not, since they are short on money anyways and he would've needed to cut back on something to get a delicacy like this.

His mind is floating somewhere above him, in some weird candy land, where all the children have cavities and all of the adults died from obesity. It's still better than whatever is waiting for him once he's out of this trance and back into his normal life. Corey feels a slight little pang of disappointment, so he quickly quells it with another mouthful of decadent sweetness.

Escapism is a goal they all chase. Everyone is detaching from their horrible reality in some way. Corey’s way of coping is just... like that. The hunger for closeness and understanding can be temporarily satisfied by food. And if - when - it comes back, he'll just stuff it down with more and more and more of this sweetness, of this sugary mess that is smudged all over his face, that's on his fingers and probably already got deep into his brain and maybe into his soul.

And when he'll feel like he's about to throw up from how full he is, when the thoughts quiet down and will be replaced with guilt for how much he ate instead, the goal will finally be achieved.

He did satisfy his hunger. Just until it returns back for more.
