Chapter Text
Three friends stepped outside the DoodleCo printing facility™, the wind lightly hitting their faces.
Route 12
“Ohh, guys, guys! This field definitelyy has superr cute Doodles!” Suzie exclaimed with that bright and cheery smile of hers, pointing at the grassy fields in the distance.
“Good thing I brought all these capsules from the store!” And just like that, Suzie began running off, turning her head back once more to yell back to you and Quincy.
“I’ll catch you guys later! Haha! Get it?”
“Ah, Suzie-” Before Quincy could even wish his friend for a safe travel, she left. He turned his head back to Player, completely baffled by her quick disappearance.
Great… he’s stuck with you, the quiet one.
You blinked back at him, your blue eyes looking back at his, tilting your head slightly in curiosity.
“So… Player. You got anything planned?” Quincy asks, still somewhat on edge after the events at Icyridge.
“Yes.” You- or Player answered straight forwardly. Of course you said yes, it was always a yes or no from you, you barely say full sentences. Quincy sometimes wondered if you even knew basic English.
“And by yes, what’s your pla-” Before the boy could finish his words, Player grabs his wrist and began walking away from the printing facility entrance.
“Woah, hey!” He exclaims as he gets dragged away.
You two walked past the windmills, the trees, the boulders, and down the path, and further. You were taking him somewhere.
Eventually, Player stopped under a tree and let go of Quincy’s hand. You grabbed your backpack and- pulled a whole picnic blanket out of it!? How does one even manage to fit- and then you pulled out a picnic basket???? How did Player even…?
Player sets the picnic blanket down and sat on it, rummaging through their basket…
Quincy didn’t really have any other choice did he..? He sat down next to Player and looked what you were grabbing out of the basket.
He could faintly hear Suzie trying to catch a Doodle, or maybe battle one in the distance. The girl could hold her ground… that’s what he hoped, no harm letting her explore by herself once in a while.
When Quincy was lost in thought, thinking about the recent events… You suddenly shoved a sandwich right up to his face, as if trying to feed the boy.
“Guh-” He let out a surprised grunt, backing up slightly.
“For… me?” And in which you answered his question with a simple nod and smile.
“… Uh, thank you.” He grabbed it, a little bit suspicious about it but… something about that soft gaze of yours made his suspicions go away.
He swore he felt his cheeks getting… warmer as he took the sandwich from your hand, your fingers brushing against each other for a brief moment. What? No way! It wasn’t even hot outside… just you, him, and the soft breeze, nothing more. Right?
Quincy turned to glance at you again as he was halfway done eating his sandwich. He caught you looking into the distance… perhaps thinking about something, the wind blowing ever so slightly at your face, making your hair flow against the wind.
And he found that… so beautiful.
Eh!? What? No way..! You were just… his rival- friend? Something like that. But either way-
Why was he feeling all… fluttery inside?
This feeling was nonsense… he better get his mind off of this.
You and Quincy stayed at that spot for a while, it was awkward, quiet… this was insufferable.
“Player.” He spoke up, breaking the silence once again. He couldn’t bear this any longer
Oh no the boy wasn’t the best when it came to conversations, especially now that he has real friends.
“How is it going so far?” That’s good enough… probably.
Player turned their head to face Quincy before looking away, as if to ponder your answer.
“Good. You?” A reply.
“Oh, I’m doing alright.” He answered anxiously, looking down and fidgeting with his hands.
Another wave of silence. This wasn’t going to work…
Quincy was going to say something again but then, Player lied down and put their head on his thigh.
Player put their head in his thigh.
Quincy’s face instantly went red.
“What are you-!? What are you doing?” He was trying his best not to trip over his words.
“Lying down”
“I know that. Why are you lying down on ME?” Quincy was completely baffled, this was really making his heart race faster… the closeness between you and him is driving him crazy
Player wraps his arm around Quincy’s thigh, as if he was their own pillow or something. As if lying down on him wasn’t enough.
“Because you’re comfy.” Player nuzzles his cheek against Quincy’s leg, their body began to ease and relax, breathing slows down… as if they were about to fall asleep.
But Quincy? He could practically feel his heart almost bursting out of his chest.
He wanted to say something, scold Player- no, tell them- ANYTHING. But nothing came out of his mouth.
All he could do was looking down at your form, breathing so calmly…
You were absolutely adorable.
Quincy takes in a deep breath, trying to calm himself from this absolute madness.
He gathered his courage and… reached a hand out and took off your red cap hat and taking it off so he could touch that beautiful brown hair of yours.
When he placed his hand down… your hair was so… different yet so.. soft. It was strange to him… Quincy was never the affectionate type and he knew that.
But… his heart felt something for you. Something he couldn’t put into words for some reason.
Why were you so…infuriating?
To be continued…
