This Was Meant to Be Professional

Summary:

Jimin will do anything for those legendary Golden Arrows while Yoongi will usually just do anything for Jimin.

So, fake dating between them was supposed to be a strategy, until kissing for bonus points makes professionalism become very hard to keep.

Chapter Text

Being a cupid isn’t all about arrows.

Being a cupid is all about Golden Arrows and Jimin is completely obsessed.

“I’m gonna get those arrows. I bet you, Taehyung.” Jimin — for the tenth time today, keep telling Taehyung, who also calmly replies with the same answer every time the conversation about arrows comes up.

“How Jimin? You don’t have a boyfriend.”

Jimin gasps like he didn’t already know about that one rule yet. “It doesn’t have to be a boyfriend, you know, Kim Taehyung.” Jimin insists, again, like he didn’t try to change the rule desperately for so many times like he can do that as he wants.

Taehyung rolls his eyes. “You are gay, so it does have to be a boyfriend, Park Jimin.”

What? Okay, that’s actually fact, but still —

“It can be,” Jimin pauses, thinking hard. “Working partner?”

“We are cupid, Jimin, not a tennis player.” Taehyung points at the great Golden Arrows display in front of them — where Jimin has been dragging Taehyung only to repeat the same scenario play and to remind Jimin who they are and what’s this exactly all about. “You know the rules.”

Jimin pouts and stares at the Golden Arrows which look so damn stunning on display inside the glasses box right in the middle of their academy's lobby. The headmaster should put them on purpose so Jimin can see it with such a fiery competitive side no one can change it.

Jimin finally becomes a senior and the first thing he wants is to win those Golden Arrows, to aim those prideful cupid symbols so he can be the legend as the arrows.

“It’s not he, it’s them.” Taehyung rolls his eyes. “It’s not a one man show, it’s a couple challenge. The arrows will only be given to the best couple.”

“Don’t you want those arrows, Tae?”

Taehyung shakes his head “Nope.” Jimin is actually not surprised with the answer because he knows Taehyung is more interested in anything outside the cupid thing. Maybe if the prize is a designer jacket or shoes, Taehyung will be as obsessed as Jimin.

“What should I do then?” Jimin sighs. “The registration will close in two days.”

“You can either find a boyfriend,” Taehyung lifts his two fingers.

“How can I find a boyfriend in two days, Kim Taehyung? This isn’t like picking up random snacks at a convenience store.”

“Or you can just let those arrows go, Jimin.” Taehyung continues as calm as he always is, no matter if Jimin looks like he will burst into tears anytime if Taehyung doesn’t come up with another solution.

Jimin won’t let those arrows go. Totally not.

“Or,”

“I knew you’ll be here, Park Jimin.”

Jimin turns to see Yoongi comes at him with two cups of drinks in his hands. The man looks good today with black turtleneck, Jimin completely forgets that Taehyung doesn’t actually finish his sentence. “Yoongi hyung.” Jimin offers a smile. “Yeah, who knows it’s gonna be my favorite place in the entire academy.”

Yoongi hands one of the cups to Jimin and Jimin immediately knows that it’s his favorite peppermint tea. “Yeah, you don’t even drag me to the canteen anymore to make me buy something for you. It’s fine.” Yoongi nods like he can accept the disappointment and stares at the arrows. “It’s hard to compete with these cool arrows.”

“Hyung, don’t say that.” Jimin whines and he’s about to pout when Taehyung comes closer and whispers something.

“Or, you can get Min Yoongi to be your boyfriend.”

“The fuck —” Jimin quietly gasps, his pupils blown when he turns his head to see Taehyung and his mischievous smile.

“Yoongi hyung,” Taehyung waves, completely ignoring Jimin — like he doesn’t realize he just pushes the bomb button. “I’m sure you don’t have to compete with the arrows, you know Jimin, ouch! What the fuck?”

“You must be eating some mushroom this morning, Kim Taehyung.” Jimin grits his teeth after stepping on Taehyung’s foot to stop his mouth from spilling anything stupid like he mostly does. “You can ignore him, hyung.” Jimin waves when he goes back to Yoongi who sees them gently, with a little confused face, but still gentle, like Yoongi understands how chaotic Jimin and Taehyung can be.

Yoongi chuckles and Jimin bites the inside of his cheek. “How can I even compete with these legendary arrows, Taehyung? Even with mushrooms, I can’t really do that.”

“Do you also want those arrows, hyung?” Taehyung asks and Jimin can’t decide if he should shut Taehyung’s mouth or let them hear what Yoongi’s answer will be, and he did the second one. Jimin wants to know if Yoongi may also have the same obsession as him, even though knowing his hyung well,

“It’s gonna be cool to have them, right? But I’m fine not to.” Yoongi smiles and Jimin’s heart slides into his stomach. Also yes, like Jimin can see it well, Yoongi doesn’t see the arrows as important as him.

“Aw, what a waste, Yoongi hyung.” Taehyung sounds disappointed. “I’m sure you can get those arrows with your excellent performance,” Taehyung looks at Jimin before continuing his words and Jimin wants to poke on those beautiful eyes. “All you need to do is find the right partner to work with like Jimin?”

Jimin may just have to do more than just poke those beautiful eyes, because the actual problem is his mouth.

“Kim Taehyung!” Jimin hisses like he is more than ready to eat Taehyung alive if it isn’t for Yoongi who looks at them as gentle as always like he doesn’t really care whatever comes out from Taehyung’s mouth even though it brings his name out of nowhere.

“He may not be as excellent as you, but he has the obsession that no one can really compete with and most of all, he has such a kind heart.” Taehyung points at Jimin’s face with both of his hands like he is trying to sell Jimin out — maybe he is.

“Hahahahaha! What do you mean, Kim Taehyung?” Jimin lets out the most fake laugh because he doesn’t know what else to do since he can’t really do violence right now.

“What do you think, hyung? You and Jimin can work together for those arrows.”

“Kim Taehyung,” Jimin can already feel how his heart is beating so fast inside his chest, pumping all of his blood to his hot face. “Yoongi hyung,” Jimin laughs awkwardly — super awkward even anyone in Antarctica will definitely hear how awkward it is.

“I don’t think that's how the competition works, Taehyung.” Yoongi smiles before giving Jimin’s head a pat. “Enjoy your tea and your arrows, Jimin. Don’t forget to take a breath, and you, Kim Taehyung,” Yoongi points at Taehyung. “Stop blabbering randomly like that or someone may try to take credit for your idea.”

Taehyung rolls his eyes. “You just don’t know it yet, that’s not blabbering.”

Jimin can only nod. “You too, hyung. See you at dinner?”

Yoongi nods back and waves. “Sure, see you at dinner, Jimin.”

Jimin looks at Yoongi’s back until it disappears right behind Seokjin’s wide shoulder who looks like he’s been waiting for Yoongi to go somewhere, maybe class or wherever, and Jimin immediately goes back right to Taehyung. “Kim fucking Taehyung! Oh God, I can’t believe you! How dare you —”

“What, Jimin?”

Jimin gasps when he sees Taehyung answers him nonchalantly, like he didn’t just cause anything that will make Jimin’s heart stop beating for forever. “What did you just do? Are you trying to tell Yoongi hyung to be my boyfriend for those arrows? Are you losing your damn mind? Please tell me if you really eat those mushrooms!”

“But he didn’t say no!”

“Because it’s Yoongi hyung!”

“But he smiles!”

“Because it’s Yoongi hyung!”

“Yes, because it’s Yoongi hyung!” Taehyung grabs Jimin's shoulder. “Listen, Jimin before you spill out your own feelings in a public place,” Taehyung reminds his best friend where they actually are with the actual possibility Yoongi can also hear them and Jimin immediately seals his lips. “Yes, I suggest for you two to become a partner so you can stop talking about those boring arrows to me and get them for real.”

“You said I can talk about them more if I want to,” Jimin pouts.

“Yeah, because I love you that much, but what’s better than finally having them with Yoongi hyung by your side, Jimin? Nothing. That should be the best plan we have so far.” Taehyung talks more about his idea slowly so Jimin can hear it and think about it.

And Jimin obediently does it.

“We all know Yoongi hyung, he won’t be able to say no to you, Jimin.”

“We can’t use his kindness like that, Taehyung.” Jimin bites his lips, feeling a little bit guilty already even from just thinking about it, and from the fact that Jimin is actually considering if they should really go with Taehyung’s idea.

Jimin feels bad for Yoongi, but —

“It’s gonna be only for the competition, Jimin.” Taehyung insists. “I know you’re not gonna let those arrows go no matter what because this is your only chance and since we all know you are very hopeless at the love story even though you are cupid,”

“Let’s not talk about that part.”

Taehyung laughs. “So, if you want to try your luck with those arrows then we don’t have a choice, Jimin. All you need to do is,” Taehyung lifts one of his fingers. “Ask Yoongi for it before the application close, I know he doesn’t need to be convinced that hard when it comes to you and then,” Taehyung lifts another fingers. “You just have to become a super lovely fake couple for a week and boom, here comes the best Valentine’s day in your life ever with those gold arrows and Yoongi hyung in your tiny cute hands.”

Jimin rolls his eyes before lifting both of his hands to Taehyung’s face. “My hands are fine, you're the one who is way too big.”

“So?

Jimin bites his lips. He is really — feel really bad for doing this even only in his mind, but those arrows and the fact that Yoongi is exactly what Taehyung just said. Jimin is also aware of that. “What do you think I should do, Taehyung?”

“Go for your man and those arrows, Park Jimin.”

No, Jimin didn’t really seek an answer, he is looking for validation.
