Work Text:

Clark hadn’t been sure what to expect when he’d told Lois his secret. Maybe she’d accept it gracefully. Maybe she’d feel betrayed. She could cry, or yell, or ask him a thousand questions about himself, about Clark, about Superman.

Somehow, her hauling him up the stairs and into his childhood bedroom had never entered his mind.

He gasps when she pushes him to sit on the edge of the bed, immediately pulling her close when she straddles him. Their lips keep finding each other, over and over and over, until he almost feels dizzy. Her breaths and her heartbeat resound in his ears. Her hands wander across his shoulders, down his back, around to his stomach, leaving sparks everywhere they linger.

It’s only when she grips the hem of his shirt that the nerves set in.

“Wait. Um…” Clark gingerly places a hand on top of hers. “We… there’s… some things we should talk about. If… we’re going to…”

Lois sits back a little, eyebrows raised incredulously. Like they’re really going to talk right now. But as she scans his face and realizes he’s serious, she releases his shirt. “Such as?”

Oh, it is so hard to concentrate when she’s in his lap like this. “Well… for one thing, I’m not human. There might be… um… differences…”

Her gaze drops rather meaningfully downward. “...anything I should know about?”

“No. I mean – it’s… all the same. Down there. As… far as I know.”

“Then it works for me.”

She leans in to kiss him again, but his hesitant hand stops her. “There’s also, um… the powers.”

“What about the powers?”

“I could… well. There’s… a bit of a risk that… if… in the… the… heat of things…” Clark automatically winces hearing his own words. “I… could lose control.”

“Lose control?”

His voice drops to a pained whisper. “Lois, I could snap you in half.”

“Hot.”

Clark’s entire face scrunches up, cheeks going scarlet. “Lois…”

Lois tosses her hair a little, laying a bracing hand on his shoulder. “You could hurt me every time you give me a hug. Or hold my hand. I have seen Superman barrel through walls seconds before carrying a child to safety. You have always been in control. I trust you. And if there’s technically a bit of a risk… I’m okay with that.”

“I…” He still hesitates, not quite looking at her.

“Clark…” Lois’ hands find his face, gently caressing. “I love you. I want to share this with you. But if you’re not ready, we can wait.”

Slowly, Clark lifts his eyes to take her in. Lois is breathless, watching him with a hunger that he’s not quite used to. But there’s also the same warmth and kindness and passion that had drawn him to her in the first place. Even after he’d shattered her world, revealed all the most daunting parts of himself that no one else is allowed to see… she’s still here. She still wants him.

And there’s no one else he’d rather have this with.

Clark leans forward to press his lips to hers.

Lois smiles into the kiss, returning it for a few seconds before breaking it to ask, “Is that a yes?”

He nods. “Yeah.”

The grin that spreads across her cheeks is infectious. She carefully pulls his glasses from his face, folds them, and sets them on the endtable.

“I have no idea what I’m doing,” Clark warns, as her attention returns to him.

“That’s okay,” Lois whispers. “I’ll help you figure it out.”

She pushes him down to the mattress. And he follows her lead.

Clark can’t stop smiling.

Lois sprawls across him, their legs tangled together, tracing little patterns over his chest. Clark’s hand sweeps lightly up and down her back. Their clothes lay strewn across the room.

“What are you grinning about?” Lois asks, shooting a sly glance up at him.

That only makes his smile wider. “Nothing,” he whispers, bending down to kiss the top of her head. “I’m just happy.”

“Dork,” she teases, no real weight behind it. “You’ve really never done that before?”

“I almost did. Once,” he admits, recalling an evening with Lana that had gotten rather heated. “But… it didn’t feel right.”

“And how did this feel?”

The question sends a shiver down his spine. “...perfect.”

Lois smirks and drops a kiss to his chest. Clark starts to toy with her hair, curling a few strands around his finger. “You know. This is not what I expected would happen after I told you.”

“You didn’t think I’d jump you immediately?”

He chuckles. “No, I… honestly, I thought you’d be upset.”

Lois doesn’t respond right away. Clark’s heart starts to race. Should he not have brought it up? Does she regret getting right into bed with him?

“I’m processing,” she finally replies. “And I have about a thousand questions. But no. I’m not upset.”

“Really?”

She must hear the doubt in his voice, because she scoots up, propping herself on her elbow to see him properly. “If I’d found out on my own, I’d probably be giving you hell. But… you told me. That means something.”

Clark watches her carefully, losing himself in her eyes. “I’ve never told anyone before.”

“Then thank you for trusting me.”

She leans in for a soft kiss, which Clark gladly provides. “I love you.”

Lois’ expression melts. Then shifts into something almost mischievous. “...any idea how much longer your mom will be out?”

Oh…

Clark manages a flushed smile. “She, uh…” He turns his head, expanding his hearing, zeroing in on the distinct sound of the old red truck, his mother’s familiar heartbeat behind the wheel. Calculating the distance based on —

“Is that what that is?”

Lois’ question snaps his focus back into the bedroom. “What?”

“Your weird head tilts. I thought you must have a nervous tic. But you’re using your hearing, aren’t you?”

“Oh. Um… yeah.”

She fondly runs her fingers through his hair. “Word of advice, Superman? It’s not subtle.”

Sheepishly, Clark closes his eyes and focuses again, taking care not to move his head. Based on the sounds of the car, Martha is…

“Ten minutes away?” he offers, looking at her again – before the realization sets in. Ten minutes. “Oh, god. Do you think she’ll know? That we…?”

At that, Lois just laughs. “It’ll be fine, Clark.” Her voice drops to a whisper. “Let me show you what I can do with ten minutes.”

She slips downward. Clark shivers as he watches her go.

Martha is absolutely going to know.
