Finally, adopted we two be!
They were strays, having survived the harshness of the streets after being born. But they had always been together, ever since first meet.
Always the two of them it had been; friends, loving partners the two kitties were. Inseparable. Always taking care of one and other in the cruel world out there.
But, when they had ended up in the pound after some mistakes having been made, having gotten detained in a manner of speaking. Well, it wasn’t easy as that, being a captive having been free on the streets.
Hoomans, those two legged beings usually taking care of animals, at least those in their care, usually only adopted the one animal. Something the two kittens had heard from their current care takers, the pound people as they were called amongst those varied animals in there.
The grapevine the animals having created amongst themselves there for alerting to all kinds of things. Like when there were rounds to be made for food and bath time and whatever medicine were needed, just the ole normal animal chatter really. But also when the open doors event meant there would be plenty of Hoomans about, even families wanting a precious pet for their families.
Ghost and Soap were on their best behaviour for sure. The two spending time in their holding area, only waiting for someone to come by. The hope being, to get out of there, but together. Always together.
“Be careful there, not too friendly, not too shy either.” An older cat having given the duo tips on how to behave. “Just remain together, send the clear signal to them it’ a double deal or nothing at all, it just might work.”
Perhaps, but that was the rumour, and a few animals having gotten a great deal as were the tales told among the lot.
Of course the caretakers in the pound already knew that too. Always remembering to comment on it as well, finding it rather cute but mostly, thinking of the animals there, ending up together in homes.
“Oh look, they’re in love.” More so than often heard for Soap and Ghost.
And it was true too.
And so, when the doors opened, Ghost and Soap were on their best behaviour, hanging in their little space, playing and doing little tricks to get the onlookers attention. Nothing too much and yes, always, together.
And so it happened. Someone was hooked.
“Oh look mom, those two are so cute.”
“We can only have the one, sweetie. Remember what we agreed?”
“You did.”
“Well…”
The little girl pouted. Having stayed by Ghost and Soap’s place for a longest while, cooing at the two kittens as she was completely enamoured by the cuteness of the duo.
“But, mommy, they’re a couple. Can’t split them up!”
“They are cute together true. But like said, if you want a cat, you can only pick the one.”
Heart broken, the girl walked away. Ghost and Soap pretty sure they would not get picked up on this day.
But then, she was back.
“Well, sweetie?”
“The black and white one.” She said in a small voice, clearly torn she was too, having to choose.
Oh oh!
When Ghost was picked up, the whines suddenly filling the room, the loud meows following suit, Soap and Ghost reaching for each other with their tiny paws, not wanting to let go.
“Oh, mom, they’re crying!” The girl started wailing too, a whole lot of crying going on!
The mom turned to the caretaker, seeing as this was going to be a problem for sure for everyone involved. But mostly for the animals, something none of them truly wanted, not even the clueless mother, realising she was in the wrong.
“Mam, they were found together. These two have always been together, out there is the consensus as well. But also here, always.”
The mother looked from child to cats to the caretaker, making her decision then and there.
“Alright, then we will take them both. Cannot break them up after all.”
“Thank you mom!”
The kid hugged her mother, really squeezed her. Then, she cooed at the kitties, opening the crate.
“Come on then, both of you. You are going home with me.”
Ghost and Soap stopped crying, looking at the crate and then, the girl. Sensing she was serious, they carefully stepped inside the transporter, both of them did. Together. Like always. As Ghost and Soap were going home, together with their new Hooman.
