Not Really a Mystery

Summary:

Dynamism Design Firm is a calm working environment. When things are calm, humans tell stories and play games. Sometimes these games are about their coworkers' love lives.
(or: somehow Hu Xiu avoided gossip for a whole year)

Work Text:

And everything turned out perfect. The days are light, business flows as usual. Dynamism’s routine settled relatively fast after those few months of plot twists and confusion. Now, more than a year down the line, it’s almost as if it had never happened.

Maybe that’s why the conversation started – when the hours aren’t packed and nothing moderately interesting happens in many many months, people find things to talk about.

“Does anyone know if Hu Xiu has a boyfriend?” Tian Siyu causes the first hairline fracture.

“Shhh.” Sun Yifei throws a quick look around to see if the subject of the conversation isn't around. “Don’t talk about that near her. She was abandoned at the engagement dinner just last year.”

“Really?” Xiao Zhou rolls her chair closer. “I saw her post something really romantic just last night.”

Pulling out her phone, she scrolls back on the feed to show the post. Indeed, there is a picture of a book with a sweet message written on the corner, Hu Xiu’s reflection on the large window is only a dark shape against the city lights. No description, but a clear message.

“Oh, that is not an old lane view.” Sun Yifei whistles. “That’s high-rise material.”

“You see what I mean? But she never mentioned anyone, we never saw her with anyone…” When they look at him with suspicion, Tian Siyu raises his hands. “I am not interested.”

“Maybe that’s because she knows you all are a bunch of gossips.” At Director Zhou’s voice, the whole group jumps. “Stop talking about the girl behind her back and focus.”

They do, but Xiao Zhou watches Director Zhou leave smiling anyway.

Curious.

There are little things through the weeks, after they start paying attention.

Sun Yifen and Tian Siyu start following Hu Xiu’s account too, since Xiao Zhou proved herself unreliable in terms of sharing information. Slowly, they build a case.

Hu Xiu never wears any particular ring, nor does she slip up and mention someone with too much frequency that isn’t the friends they already know. She works late most days and occasionally weekends so dates, if they exist, must be infrequent.

But she does, on one notable occasion, receive a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

“That’s so cute!” Xiao Zhou comments as all the girls gather around Hu Xiu’s desk.

Hu Xiu is, as expected, blushing so pink her cheeks must be warm. She snatches the card and puts it between the pages of her notebook – it’s an obvious move that all of the girls notice. No one comments, though. It would be rude. Xiao Zhou fully intends on trying to fish for information from her later.

“What’s the special occasion? Your birthday has already passed, hasn't it?”

“Ah…I’ll check the card later, I’m pretty busy right now.”

They take the dismissal for what it is. To her credit, Hu Xiu does continue to work bowed over her supplier lists as she has been all week. Xiao Zhou admires the determination. She herself would be bouncing on her desk all afternoon.

Hu Xiu is a much more focused woman, apparently. She even has the presence of mind to gather her reports and go up to the boss’ office. Xiao Zhou would never be able to stay that level headed.

It is sad to see her come back without her extensive notes and looking quite harrassed. Men… they can’t ever stand to see a girl happy on their bad days.

The next time Xiao Zhou, Sun Yifei and Tian Suyi stop to chat about their little conspiracy theory, it’s bowed over Sun-ge’s phone – just because if he accidentally likes the picture it won’t be too weird.

This one is a bit more conclusive. At first glance, it’s just a couple of dishes from what appears to be a small, cramped restaurant. At a second, more attentive observation, the table is set for two and there’s clearly a man on the other side – they can see the shirt where he’s leaning back, and the shadow on the table.

“That must be a date night. Look at the timestamp.” Eight in the evening. “And this time we have a caption.”

Win or lose, I always bring the prize home with me.

“No way that isn’t a boyfriend,” Tian Suyi moves back, arms crossed. “Strange that she started with these posts…”

“Maybe it’s a recent relationship?” Something is itching in the back of Xiao Zhou’s mind however, telling her that isn’t the case.

Sun Yifen pockets his phone as they see Hu Xiu coming outside to enjoy the sun too.

“Must be.”

The last incident is when Sun Yifei calls Hu Xiu early one Saturday morning to check if she didn’t accidentally take his notes with her. He swears to his name that he could hear a man’s voice in the background as Hu Xiu rumaged through her purse.

Now they just need confirmation.

So they gathered near the coffee maker not long after for a short break and some more varied gossiping, until director Yu joins them. Sun Yifei, the bravest of them, immediately loops the boss into the conversation.

“Director Yu… You and Hu Xiu are pretty close friends, aren't you?”

Director Yu levels him with a curious look before leaning on the wall, fresh mug of coffee between his hands.

“I’d say so, yes.”

“I imagined, after you rented her house for a while back then.” Sun Yifen nods sagely. “Maybe you can help us figure out something.”

“I can try.” Director Yu must be in a great mood – he’s always friendly, but not so much as to entertain silly discussions like this.

Sun Yifei leans closer so the question can be quieter.

“Does she have a boyfriend?”

Taken by surprise by the intimate question, Director Yu chokes on his badly timed coffee sip but recovers quickly. After cleaning his throat, he raises an eyebrow with a very amused look about his naturally serious face.

“Why don't you ask her? Hey, Hu Xiu. Come here.” He doesn't seem to care that everyone cringes at the way his voice carries easily to the drawing tables. Not that he shouted. Director Yu never shouts. It might be a punishment for their impropriety, however.

Startled, Hu Xiu hurries through the office.

“What happened?”

“Your coworkers are dying of curiosity, and honestly so am I now.” He makes a pause someone could find it dramatic if they didn’t know him for years already. “Do you have a boyfriend?”

Hu Xiu’s mouth falls open at the bold – and wholly inappropriate coming from a superior – question, then moves without sound as she stares incredulously at their usually so proper boss before settling in a frown for a second and then a sigh and a smile.

“Yes, I do. Why?”

“Ohh! We saw your picture the other day and were wondering.” Tian Suyi says way too happily to be finally vindicated.

“So romantic,” Xiao Zhou adds.

“What kind of person is he? You never mentioned anyone!” Sun Yifei is probably the most curious of them all.

Director Yu keeps his mild look on her. Somehow, Xiao Zhou has the impression he is very entertained by the whole situation. He is so much lighter now, they all agree, as if the clearing of his father’s name and the freedom it brought had taken a whole skyscraper off of his shoulders. Xiao Zhou really likes this, nobody should live with a weight like that – director Yu even looks a bit younger now.

“How did you meet?” Sun Yifei finally asks.

After thinking for a brief moment, Hu Xiu seems to decide to answer their questions.

“Hm… At an old café, in another city.”

“So vague!” Xiao Zhou looks at her over her cup to ask, in a conspiratory tone. “Are you hiding?”

“Ah… we aren't really hiding. I’m surprised you all didn’t know.”

“I think you are the one being mysterious.” Director Yu joins in. “What’s wrong with this boyfriend of yours that you must hide him?”

“Is it the family?” Tian Suiyi sighs with a sad look. “I had a friend that had that issue, her boyfriend’s family really didn’t like her.”

Hu Xiu takes a moment to answer, clearly choosing her words with care. She seems to be avoiding looking at the boss' for some reason, probably uncomfortable that he was the one to expose her like this but when she answers Tian Suyi, Xiao Zhou has the impression she's trying to hold back laughter.

“No, not really. Some of his family likes me a bit too much, actually.” It seems pointed but she’s not fixed on any of them in particular and is still looking like she’s hiding something, just not as nervous now.

“Alright, you have been slacking for long enough.” Director Yu abruptly interrupts the conversation, shooing them away from the sink. “Whowever Hu Xiu is dating will not finish your tasks for you.”

With a wide variety of sighs, they return to their desks. Xiao Zhou takes a second too long to dry her mug, enough to catch the next few words.

“Especially yours, Madam Hu.” Director Yu says, quieter and with a weird tint to his voice.

“You see, Director Yu,” Hu Xiu answers as if she’s delivering grave news. “Maybe that attitude is why you’re not married yet.”

Xiao Zhou walks to her desk pretending to be someone who hasn’t heard anything strange. When Hu Xiu passes by to go back to the drawing tables, she’s smiling like she has a secret.

Curious.

Theory number one confirmed, they’re now itching to find out who said boyfriend is.

“Hu Xiu has a few friends from that club downtown.” Sun Yifei muses, looking at the ceiling. Him and Tian Suyi have been losing their minds over some materials for an extremely fancy house that Xiao Zhou only helped design and doesn’t want to look at ever again if at all possible.

“She talks a lot about the owner… Gong something.”

“Gong Huai Cong.” Xiao Zhou decides to leave her own project for a bit. It’s Saturday morning, they deserve a break. “She talks about a guy named Li Yue too, an actor. They went for drinks recently.”

Tian Suyi comes back from the coffee maker and pulls his chair to sit between them.

“She spends a lot of time in that café. It makes sense if she met someone there.”

“Or the club. She loves those games.” Sun Yifei twirls his pen around his fingers, but he isn’t as good at that as Xiao Zhou so it goes flying over the other desks and he has to go chase it.

Picking up her phone, Xiao Zhou scrolls to the feed until last night and studies the last picture from Hu Xiu. For as much as she says she was never hiding the relationship, Hu Xiu has become much looser with her public pictures lately.

Last night’s was again a beautiful view of Shanghai’s night lights, with dark silhouettes against the glass – this time someone had his arms around Hu Xiu, face hidden in her hair.

The boys continue throwing around theories about Hu Xiu’s habits and friends, settling that this secretive boyfriend must be someone she met at the club.

Xiao Zhou starts to work on her own theory.

About a month later, when their leads had dried up and Hu Xiu started openly messing with them, something happened that got them promptly distracted.

The same group finds themselves standing together for coffee in the courtyard, enjoying the sunlight.

“So, let me tell you.” Tian Suyi starts, immediately catching Xiao Zhou and Sun Yifei’s attention. “Earlier today Director Zhou asked me to pick up a file from the boss’ office. She said it was supposed to be in one of the desk drawers but she didn’t know which and it was urgent and the boss isn’t in…so, under her orders, I opened one by one to search.”

“And…?” Sun Yifei frowns.

“Well, on the bottom drawer on the left there was a purple hair tie. With fluffy bunny ears.”

Xiao Zhou almost spits her coffee. They barely gave up on one wild chase and Tian Suyi already is pushing them into a new, way more dangerous one. All these years working together and she never noticed how invested this man is in other people’s love lives.

“See, Sun-ge. I noticed that when talking about Hu Xiu, Suyi immediately said he had no interest,” she can’t help but poke. “But this time the gossip comes with no such clarifications.”

For a second she almost fears Tian Suyi will throw his whole mug at her.

“I have no interest in Xiao Zhiyu.” He says, all but rolling his eyes.

Sun Yifei nods, very serious.

“He’s too young for you.”

This time Tian Suyi does threaten to throw his coffee in Sun Yifei’s direction, making him jump a step back.

She remembers Zhou Yan intercepting Xiao Zhiyu as he rushed through the door yesterday morning, trading a few words, and Director Yu going into the conference room while moving something from his wrist to his coat pocket. Back then she found it curious but unremarkable.

They stand there, each lost in their own theorizing for a good few minutes. Xiao Zhou can see their brains going in all sorts of directions, while hers is following one very straight line.

It helps that she herself is missing one – rather unremarkable – tie, since she gave it to a colleague that couldn’t find hers and arrived at work with her hair looking like a sweet smelling cloud.

“Maybe one of the girls lost it and he found it and is going to give it back later.” Xiao Zhou says, just for the fun of dragging them even further away from her ideas.

To be fair, she’s one hundred percent sure the hair tie will make it back to its owner.

“What are you all whispering about?” Hu Xiu joins them, carrying her insensibly tall cup. It’s a recent addition to her desk – black and shimmery with the words Lady of the City stamped in gold going around it. “Still wasting time on my very uninteresting life?”

“We got over you.” Sun Yifei pushes his shoulder against hers. “Keep being mysterious.”

“It isn’t that hard to guess,” Hu Xiu laughs with the straw between her teeth.

Xiao Zhou is starting to think it really isn’t.

“Oh, sir, there's a coat here.” Xiao Zhou lifts a fuzzy sweater, pink and covered in large hearts. Clearly well loved and not something that someone would wear out, and completely out of place in the pristine black interior of their boss’ car.

Director Yu looks through the mirror with a strange expression on his face before he looks down to buckle the seatbelt.

“Can you put it to the side please? I’ll return it later.”

In the passenger seat, Sun Yifei turns to look at her with wide eyes. Years of silent communication through many meetings transmit the message clearly: girlfriend confirmed?

In Xiao Zhou’s humble womanly opinion it’s not even the sweater that gives it away, but the softness in the boss’ eyes. A coat can belong to any friend or family, but that kind of look is reserved for love.

She carefully folds the sweater and puts it to the side.

“The boss is wearing jewelry.” Sun Yifei whispers to Xiao Zhou, one bright spring day.

“What do you mean, jewelry?” She takes a quick look around to see if anyone is paying attention, but most of them are on the drawing tables or off to the large new site they started working on.

“Yeah, he has a bracelet on. Right hand. He’s wearing a watch too so it’s kind of hidden, but I saw when he was pointing at my screen.”

They both hum in unison. Director Yu is pretty fashionable, that’s normal to someone of his age and position, but his looks are usually very discreet. It’s rare to see him wearing watches, jewelry is a whole other level.

Xiao Zhou twirls her highlighter between her fingers. Sun Yifei tries to copy and drops his pencil.

“I can imagine him wearing something if it is a gift.” She thinks for a moment longer, then turns to Sun Yifei with wide eyes. “Do you think it could be from the owner of that sweater?”

“Maybe?” Sun Yifei sighs and turns to his computer, cheeks puffed in annoyance. “Why do I think people are leaving us out on purpose?”

It doesn’t feel that way to Xiao Zhou… They are indeed prying into other people’s business. But Sun-ge has been working at Dynamism a little longer and he is closer to Hu Xiu, so maybe he’s still hurt from that.

Later, when she is at the drawing tables losing her mind about corner angles, Director Yu stops to help as he tends to do when one of them looks particularly miserable.

When he reaches to point out how she can move a wall for the room to make more sense, Xiao Zhou spots the watch – it’s a pretty thing, muted gold with subtle green accents and a thin gold bracelet barely hidden right under it. There’s a thin slate on it where something could be engraved but she can’t see it.

It suits him, delicate and discreet, but most definitely not near anything she’s ever seen Director Yu wear in the many years she’s known him.

“Does it make sense to you?” He asks.

Half Xiao Zhou’s mind was somewhere else, but she caught most of his explanation so she nods and watches him leave with corner-unrelated questions swimming in her brain.

The day continues to be a little bewildering after lunch.

“I brought sweets!” Hu Xiu calls them, laying a box of bite-sized brownies between Sun Yifen and Xiao Zhou. “My friend makes them, they’re really delicious.”

For someone so miffed, Sun-ge reaches for the sweets pretty fast. Xiao Zhou is a little more dignified. The chocolate isn’t too sweet and melts in her mouth – delicious indeed.

“Isn’t your friend’s shop a bit far? Did you go all the way there for chocolate?” Sun Yifei’s question is muffled behind a bite of brownie.

“I had something to do near there.” Hu Xiu reaches to get one herself and all of Xiao Zhou’s attention immediately changes course.

She had noticed it before, even complimented it a long time ago. Hu Xiu wears that bracelet almost daily for over a year now, but today Xiao Zhou looks at the pretty green flowers in a different light.

Her errand thoughts don’t get much clearer when she climbs up to the boss’ office to deliver the completed draft and on his desk there’s a very obvious cup from Regard Café.

“I was thinking that this would look nice, but I don't know if it is feasible with the structure that’s already there without looking awful in the end.”

Xiao Zhiyu watches through the glass as Sun Yifei presents the schematics he and Tian Suyi had been talking about all week. The client with the huge, ridiculous house, decided he didn’t like any of the lighting. Last minute, as clients like to do.

“I think it works. My father-in-law mentioned a similar project he worked on years ago, I'll try to get his opinion on this.”

“Oooh…” Hu Xiu calls from the other end of the table where she was supposed to be cleaning up a presentation but is instead smiling widely at them. “Director Yu, we didn't know you were taken! Will we be getting wedding invitations soon?”

Xiao Zhiyu raises one eyebrow and stares at her for a beat too long before turning his attention back to the sketches.

“No, we are going slow.” He organizes the papers and slides them back into the folder. “Here. I like your idea. Make a copy of these and I'll see if we can get an opinion about the installation on the weekend.”

“Hu Xiu, isn’t your father an electrical engineer too? Do you think he’d mind taking a look?” Sun Yifei is so tired, everyone can see it.

Hu Xiu looks like she’s trying really hard to hold back whatever was her automatic reaction, but she falls back into her normal warm and friendly smile. Possibly out of pity.

“Of course. I don’t think he would mind.”

“That’s great, thank you. I’ll make you a copy too!”  Sun Yifei says, already halfway out the door.

“No need,” Director Yu and Hu Xiu call at the same time, but he’s already gone.

Xiao Zhou waits a little longer before going inside the room, just to watch as Hu Xiu giggles and Director Yu shakes his head. She only enters to sit and help Hu Xiu when they are focused on their work again.

Curious.

“I'm not working today.” Hu Xiu's voice sounds horrible on the phone and she has to pause to cough. “I was going to ask you to send the materials via email but sincerely, I don't think I can do anything productive today. I'm sorry.”

It's really rare that Hu Xiu takes a day off recently. She works late almost every day, so eager to make a name for herself. Even through the phone, Xiao Zhou can hear she shouldn’t be around people today.

“That's fine, I can wrap everything up. Don't worry. Do you want me to warn the boss?”

Hu Xiu hums, then goes on another coughing streak that makes Xiao Zhou worry if she can breathe.

“He knows already. Just…” Sniffling. “If you want, tell him I'm dying and won't be able to follow today's schedule.” It’s so typically dramatic that it makes Xiao Zhou smile. Even “dying”, Hu Xiu will still be herself.

“Alright, I will. Please let me know if I can do anything to help.”

They finish the call with Hu Xiu sounding even worse than when they started, enough to make Xiao Zhou concerned if any of them could catch the same thing. But it's Monday, so she probably got sick during the weekend. Maybe it was one of the weekends she worked until late at her friend’s shop.

Director Yu arrives not long after and Xiao Zhou rushes to him.

“Sir, I was just on the phone with Hu Xiu…”

“She's not coming in today, I know. Did she say anything else?”

“Hmm… she wanted to let me know she won't be able to help close the presentation.” Xiao Zhou thinks for a second on the many times Hu Xiu had them running in circles recently and decides that taking her very seriously is warranted. “And she asked me to tell you that she's, in her words, ‘dying and won't be able to keep up with today's schedule’.”

They look at each other for a long, uncomfortable moment, until Director Yu nods and moves to his office. Not fast enough that Xiao Zhou doesn’t see the way he softened, or that he pulls out his phone and immediately makes a call.

“Xiaorou?” She can hear it distantly. “I’m sorry to bother, but I need a favor.”

Curious.

The next morning, just because she meets Director Yu at the entrance and he looks very tired and very distracted with his phone, Xiao Zhou decides to take her shot.

“Hello, Director Yu!” She tests, but he just answers the greeting vaguely. “How is Hu Xiu?”

“A little better. At least she slept through the night.” Director Yu answers, then stops midway through opening the door and stares at Xiao Zhou like he’s seeing her for the first time again.

Xiao Zhou only smiles.

For as much as she’s itching to tell the boys that she was the first one to guess – of course she was, women pay more attention to detail – Xiao Zhou keeps quiet.

She wants to pull her chair beside Hu Xiu and ask all the questions. When did it begin? Was it while they lived together? It couldn’t be, that was over a year ago, but oh it would be so romantic. Like a book. How did she get into the boss’ heart? What kind of boyfriend is he?

But she won’t. That would be even ruder than speculating. They shouldn’t actually involve the people they theorize about. She’s giddy, though, as if she’s in on some inside joke. Now she can catch the looks, the sideways comments. All the overtime and the times Hu Xiu comes down from the boss’ office looking a little embarrassed.

How they almost always arrive and leave together.

Xiao Zhou really wants to win, though.

So, a few weeks later, she slides her chair beside Hu Xiu’s and puts her phone in front of the girl.

“Is this you?” She whispers.

The picture on the screen is so cute. Hu Xiu looks at her sideways.

“What do you think?” She whispers back.

“Is it a secret?” For all the quiet gossip between her, Tian Siyu and Sun Yifei, she still has some morals. All the quiet is making her want to laugh, though. “I can keep it.”

Hu Xiu bites her lips, shoulders shaking.

“I already said it isn’t that hard to guess.” She gives Xiao Zhou a thumbs up. “Good job.”

Permission given, when they are having lunch (Hu Xiu left to meet a friend), Zhou Xiao tries to keep away from an imperious tone.

“You don’t follow the boss on Soul do you?” She asks.

“No… he doesn’t post anything that isn’t the same as Dynamism’s page so I never saw the point.” Tian Suyi leans closer over the table. “Why?”

“Oh, I have something tasty, then.”

Xiao Zhou turns her phone to her companions and there it is. A picture of a girl sitting on the hood of Xiao Zhiyu’s car in front of a bright field of flowers, wearing a summer dress. The large straw hat on her hand is blocking the sun and most of her face except for a smile.

“Is that Hu Xiu?” Sun Yifei hisses.

“I really don’t want it to be Hu Xiu…” Tian Suyi almost sounds like he’s in pain.

“Why? Didn’t you say you weren’t interested…”

“No! But I convinced myself that it was all in my head and…”

Xiao Zhou leans back, trying not to smile.

“Are you sure it’s her? Wouldn’t we have noticed before? They spent most of their time at the office with us.” She pokes, trying to keep sounding suspicious. “It’s hard to think that Director Yu would be the ‘office romance’ kind.”

Sun Yifei mirrors Xiao Zhou’s position, leaning back on his chair, and studying the wall like it holds all the answers. He jumps when Hu Xiu looks over his shoulder.

“That’s such a pretty picture!” She meets Xiao Zhou’s eyes over the table. “Who posted that?”

“Hum… Director Yu.” Sun Yifei looks like he’s praying she didn’t hear their discussion. “We were wondering who his girlfriend is.”

Humming like she’s deep in thought, Hu Xiu nods and takes another look at Xiao Zhou’s phone.

“He made fun of me, but who is hiding a girlfriend now, huh? See, he doesn’t even want to show her face!”

Xiao Zhou takes back her phone and gets up before she starts laughing.

“Use those brain cells to work and stop gossiping,” she chides the boys, as if she wasn’t doing the same.

Well, it’s been a good couple of weeks since she stopped theorizing. She meets Hu Xiu at the sink, and the girl’s shoulders are shaking as she laughs silently at the mug she’s washing.

“Guys. Do you remember that mystery game downtown? The fancy one at the park?” Xiao Zhou asks, catching the attention of the others. She whistles quietly.

“Yeah, I went there once, it’s fun. Aren’t they doing a Qixi limited run with romantic storylines and such?” Sun Yifei comes down from the coffee maker, never one to miss on parallel conversations. “We should wait for it to end, if you want to go.”

“To be fair and honest, I solved our mysteries a while ago, but since you two are too slow, I’ll give up the answer.” She motions them closer and pushes her glasses up in the most dramatic way she can. “Come look at the club’s new promotion for the event.”

Even a couple of the people sitting on the other side of her desk get up to see what she’s so smug about.

Xiao Zhou opens the poster full screen on her computer and the silence is really loud.

There, in shiny high resolution, are Xiao Zhiyu and Hu Xiu. He’s holding her on her toes with an arm around her waist in front of large half-open doors, their faces close – not really kissing, but not too far from it. There’s something secret in her smile and the way he’s looking down on her. The back-light and old-fashioned uniform and party dress only make the scene more romantic.

Sun Yifei whistles too.

“That’s… it looks pretty nice. Good photography.” They all stare at the screen for a long time, each recontextualizing almost two years of interactions.

“Oh no, Hu Xiu.” Director Yu’s voice makes them all jump. He sounds as deadpan as someone can be. “We have been found out.”

Too engrossed by the strange view, none of the three noticed the boss and their colleague standing not far behind them. Xiao Zhiyu looks entertained and Hu Xiu only sighs, leaving her purse on her desk.

“It does look pretty good.” Hu Xi joins them, as does Director Yu. “I love that uniform.”

The comment pulls a different noise out of each of them – Tian Suyi sounds like he’s deflating, Sun Yifei like he’s seen something dirty. Xiao Zhou is trying not to giggle because she can very much hear Director Yu’s intrigued hum.

“I told you it wasn’t hard to guess.” Hu Xiu reminds them.

“And you were worried about gossip…” Director Yu turns and leaves them, but Hu Xiu only goes to her desk.

Most of their colleagues are watching everything with wide eyes and confused expressions. To be fair, they weren’t roped into the whole crafting of conspiracy theories.

Sun Yifei still slides backwards to be near Hu Xiu.

“How long have you been together?” No boundaries, that man.

“Ah…a year and a half?” Hu Xiu giggles. “Not long after I started working here.”

From the far desks, someone sighs.

“God. I thought I was being paranoid.”

From the corridor, Amy also peeks at them, attracted by the commotion.

“You guys didn’t know?” When everyone stares at her incredulously, she shrugs. “I’ve seen them kiss like…a hundred times. Just out on the sidewalk. Since forever.”

Tian Suyi lowers his head to his desk.

Xiao Zhou only smiles at her screen.

Maybe she should get a mystery boyfriend, just so Hu Xiu has a chance to play too.

This show ended and left open my FAVORITE trope: How Does The Office Find Out
Don't ask me how they didn't notice for that long. Maybe the Dynamism crew is that Locked In™, maybe you just need to treat logic here like we treat logic in the LARP.
I have NO IDEA who the "Amy" credited on MDL is, but to me she looks a lot like the receptionist. If you know who she is, let me know and I'll fix it.
