Chapter Text
Chapter One(part1)
Down, further into the rabbit hole you go
Creatures you'd pass, realms you'd cross
Though, trek carefully through the gates
Beneath the wonders, is an adventure
So addictive, you cannot come back
Listen carefully, the scripture cannot repeat;
Never ever, anger
The wicked lady of eclipse May
(I dunno how I was so proud of this opening #KMS ^>^!!!)

She opens her eyes, sitting up in her bed as a yawn escapes her mouth. She looks around her messy room before standing up to get ready. It was her morning routine, brush her teeth, get dressed, and get out. She rubs the sleep away from her eyes, buttoning up her uniform before walking down the stairs. Her father wasn't awake yet, and she couldn't care less. She turns her doorknob, letting the warm summer light through the doorway before heading out and locking the door behind her.
She'd get to her school by train, standing since there are no more seats left. Men would stand behind her, their hands briefly brushing against her body and calling it an accident.
ℐ𝓉'𝓈 𝒻𝒾𝓃ℯ , she'd convince herself, ℐ'𝓁𝓁 𝓃ℯ𝓋ℯ𝓇 𝓈ℯℯ 𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓂 𝒶ℊ𝒶𝒾𝓃 𝒶𝓃𝓎𝓌𝒶𝓎..
Once she gets to the school building she'd go put her bags in her locker and change her shoes before heading to the inner yard, where she'd talk with her friends before going to class. It would be a smooth transition between English, math, lunch, gym, free-time, art, and mythology class.
Afterschool, she'd go to work at Local Ø, work till 10:30, then head back home by bus.
It should be that easy.
It should have always been that simple.
The sweet taste of normalcy, her brain ached for. But her heart and body says otherwise.
She wanted everything to crumble in her hands, she wanted to let her anger fizz out.
Crack skulls between her teeth, blood dripping from her fingertips.
She's a deer with sharp teeth, a rabbit with a hunger for flesh.
She wanted everything, but she was given nothing. Everything is nothing to her.
If only her father had a heart.
If only her mother was here.
If only her soul was pure.
If only..
"Jace?"
A hand on her head, the warmth seeping through her scalp.
"What?" She'd answer back.
"You're tugging at your hair again."
Everything comes back in her vision, as if the darkness crawled away in fear of the voice. Right, they're in Mythology class. Her friends stood around her, Rocky fiddled around with her camera, barely paying attention. Tobias had his headphones partially on, he's on his phone but he glances down at her from time to time. Lillian stood over her, her hand on her head as her eyes were filled with concern. Jason was equally concerned, his arms crossed as he stood over her also. She was in her seat, a book about mythology on her table. The rest of her classmates were in separate groups, discussing about their project, or just chatting about random stuff. Their teacher, Mrs. Hoggins, sat in her desk typing away on her laptop.
"Seriously, you need to seek professional help with this, you're not okay." Lillian said, her sweet voice laced with worry
"My sister has anxiety, and she kind of has the same symptoms you have, I could maybe get you some anxiety medication? Whatever you need, I'll get it for you." Jason said, his face determined but no less concerned.
She smiled softly, taking Lillian's hand off her head. "I'll be fine, thank you."
The two don't look convinced, but they let her go for now. Rocky scoffs,
"Guys, just leave her alone, if she doesn't want to admit it, then she doesn't want to admit it. Plus, I could get some interesting info about mental health from this." She said, blandly as she continued to fidget with her camera. Lillian and Jason frowns at Rocky's comment
"Not everything you can take advantage of for your newspaper club, Rosalina." Jason said, clicking his tongue in annoyance
"It's Rocky to you, pretty boy. The bigger you get, the smaller your brain becomes, or is it just pure naivety?" Rocky spat back at Jason, clearly offended by Jason's ignorance.
"Just because you can't feel empathy doesn't mean you can shit on others that can!" Jason snapped back
The two childhood friends always bickered like this since they were children, it seems that nothing everything changes in time, ah, it was almost endearing. Almost.
"Guys, you know Jace isn't gonna get better when you two yap like this. In fact, I think your bickering is the reason why she's not well." Tobias said, calmly with a stern expression.
"Nah, I think it's connected to that time she disappeared for 10 months." Rocky said, a grin on her face as she made theories in her head.
"Hey! Enough about that..Event! You know she doesn't want to be reminded of that memory." Lillian butts in, crossing her arms
"No no, it's fine. I'll be fine." Jaycie said, smiling softly "Though I think we actually need to do some work." She redirected the conversation. Rocky groans in annoyance, while the rest just nods.

The bus shook and jumped from each pothole and bump it runs over, the group of friends tried to remain steady on their feet as they continued their chatter. The bus was full, people already had claimed their seats.
"Okay, maybe the bar was a biiit sudden. Bu-But! Buuut! The email came to me just yesterday, so it's not really my fault!" Lillian argued back, a sheepish smile on her face as she raised her hands in feigned surrender
"Yeah, sure, but they expect us to play TONIGHT!?" Jason exclaimed, a hand ran through his hair in exasperation "And you said yes?"
"Yepperoni!" Lillian responded with a happy tone
"Hey, we've been waiting for this moment since, what, middle school? And now we finally have the chance to play there, let's try and act a bit more grateful." Tobias added, ever so nonchalant about literally anything
"Yeah, but it's tonight! We have nothing planned!" Jason huffing, "Lily should've asked them a week before or something, but NO! Your s-"
"Watch your tone." Tobias glared daggers at Jason
"—Your sister, decided to ask them yesterday!"
"She could've asked in advance if you told her a week ago other than ogle at Jace in a suit." Tobias commented, a faint knowing smirk at the corner of his lips. Jason's cheeks heated up, his body going rigid as he frowned
"He—wha-Hey! N-Not cool!" He exclaimed, his voice slightly cracked at the end. Lillian giggled as Tobias just grinned. Jaycie chuckled sheepishly, a bit confused. Rocky snaps a picture of blushing Jason and confused Jaycie. Rocky snorts
"This is going on the documentary." Rocky laughs
The bus stops right infront of Local Ø, Jaycie jumps off of the bus and onto the cracked pavement. She waves goodbye at her friends as the door closes infront of them. She sighed fondly, walking into the convenience store. There, behind the counter, stood her manager— Mr. Welkins. He was reading a newspaper, an unlit cigarette between his lips.
"Hey Jace. It's just you for tonight. Make sure you throw out the expired shit in the dumpster and replace the shelves. Oh, and there's a gun under the counter, in case those weird old dudes try and put their hands on you again. I'm gonna head out" He said, walking out of the store. He was just her manager, but he was the closest thing she had to a father. He was gruff but cared about her deeply, having known her since she was a child. Jaycie smiled politely. She puts on her forest green apron, tying it around her waist. Her shift started out simple, just some kids and teenagers buying stuff, some old people that goes there regularly. Oddly enough, nothing else interesting happened—aside from the occasional chats from customers and people her age trying to get away with buying cigarettes and alcohol with a fake ID. That's new.

9:40 P M
She stretches her arms, a long day catching up to her. She takes off her apron, folding them neatly in the employee's only room in the back before cleaning up and waiting for the bus outside. She finally gets home, taking out her keys from her pocket and easily unlocking the old door. There in the living room, her father sat on the couch, the tv flashing lights into the room.
𝒜𝒽, 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓁𝒾𝓉𝓉𝓁ℯ 𝓈𝒽𝒾𝓉 𝒾𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓃𝒶𝓉𝓊𝓇𝒶𝓁 𝒽𝒶𝒷𝒾𝓉𝒶𝓉. 𝒜𝓉𝓁ℯ𝒶𝓈𝓉 𝒽ℯ 𝒹𝒾𝒹𝓃'𝓉 𝒽𝒶𝓋ℯ 𝒶 ℊ𝓊𝓎 ℴ𝓋ℯ𝓇, 𝓉𝒽ℯ𝓃 ℐ'𝒹 𝒽𝒶𝓋ℯ 𝓉ℴ 𝒹ℯ𝒶𝓁 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓃ℴ𝒾𝓈ℯ.
The house had a faint stench of beer and cigarettes. She gets into the kitchen quietly, swiftly washing the dishes and snagging a cold can of beer in the fridge before heading upstairs.
She quickly took a shower before entering her room and getting changed, taking sips of the beer. She'd stand in front of her wall mirror, putting her hair up into side bun with her hair stick , the wooden rod topped with a carved spider with opal carvings embedded into it trailing down the sharp tipped end. She opens her phone, checking her messages.

Whoaaaaa! You finished reading? Thank youu! (I see you skimming.) Yes, if you saw this on Wattpad, that is my other account! I had this story on my notes for a long time and decided to publish it! My request wasn’t approved yet during that so I posted it on Wattpad first (gonna abandon Wattpad soon anyway:3) and yes, my grandma did die mid writing -_-…
This is the shortest chapter I wrote in my years of writing!! I promise I’ll write longer ones!
Might post drawings of the characters, be sure to watch out for them! TikTok: skyheart.va
