Chapter Text
Morty took a deep breath.
Ah, the smell of a universe that isn't Rick's ass crack, he thought.
"Evil" Morty, they called him, but in truth he wasn't any more evil than the average Rick, just done with Rick's bullshit.
He walked down a random street, not really sure what to do now that he'd finally freed himself from Rick's personal ego playground. As he turned a corner, someone else also happened to be coming from the other side and crashed right into him.
"Hey, watch it! Jeez," the eyepatched Morty groused, then attempted to continue walking.
Keyword: attempted, because the guy that crashed into him was another Morty, which didn't really register for him since he'd already spent practically his whole life treating other instances of himself as separate people. The other Morty, however, clearly hadn't, as he did the droopy mouth thing and chased after Morty.
"W-wait! Who are you and why do you look like me?"
Morty wasn't exactly running, so there was no real point in chasing him anyway.
"I'm Evil Morty," Morty said matter-of-factly.
"W-what makes you e-evil? Oh jeez, are you a government clone sent to replace me?" the other Morty said, while the author gave up on dialogue tags for the rest of this conversation since we all know who's talking anyway.
"A clone, yes. Replacing you, no. The government, also no. Well, not technically."
"Well, if you're not replacing me, what are you here to do? And what do you mean 'not technically'?"
"Live my life, see some cool stuff in this universe, then go to the next. Something like that. And by 'not technically' I mean not the US government. I was cloned by a government of Ricks to be one of the infinite sidekicks for one of infinite Ricks."
"Woah, so like some crazy multiverse bullshit where Grandpa is super smart or something and we call him by his first name?"
"Yeah, basically."
"Oh, jeez... well, you wanna come meet the universe's version of my, uh... your... our... family?"
"Sure."
The two Morties started walking together in silence, this universe's Morty being all awkward and unsure what to say, and also because the author wanted to save the loredump for later.
Morty and Evil Morty arrived at the Smith residence.
"Hey Grandpa, I found a version of myself from another universe!" Morty called out while power-walking into the garage. Evil Morty noticed that this version of Rick wore blue pants.
"Heya kiddo," Rick said while working on some random gadget, "wow, really? That must be real- holy shit!"
Evil Morty gave a mock salute and crossed his arms.
"I know, right? This is just like one of your weird sci-fi novels!" Morty said, while the author mildly resented there being so many different words to describe speaking that only using one across multiple consecutive dialogue tags makes them sound weird.
"Yeah, no shit," Rick mumbled in wonder, then did a voice that sounded like it came out of a cheesy parody of 60s sci-fi. You know, as a joke. "Greetings, interdimensional traveller! Welcome to our humble world. Please, have this offering of our finest legumes!"
Evil Morty took the offered can of baked beans.
Summer didn't know what exactly she was expecting when she got home, but it certainly wasn't meeting an eyepatch-wearing deadpan alternate-universe version of her little brother calling himself "Evil Morty", who'd apparently overthrown an entire multiversal order created by alternate versions of her grandpa consisting only of universes where they were the smartest being in each of their universes.
Still, could be worse. At least he was nice and wasn't an alien conqueror here to enslave an alternate version of humanity with his space gadgets.
"So tell me, Morty; since Rick is nicer and you're not constantly running off to do alien bullshit, did you manage to get with Jessica in this universe?"
Summer stood corrected. This was worse. She and Morty did the droopy mouth thing.
"W-what? No!" Morty immediately shouted.
"What the fuck Morty, you have a crush on my girlfriend?!" Summer also shouted at the same time.
"W-well, I did, but then you started dating her so I moved on!"
Evil Morty looked a little sad but also contemplative. "Huh, fascinating... well, I guess we Morties are all destined to move on from Jessica, even outside the Central Finite Curve."
The room fell into an uncomfortable silence as Summer and both Morties thought about how to move the conversation away from Jessica, then Rick came back from the garage with a pen and notebook.
"Alright Evil Morty, so I know you said no space gadgets for me, but maybe you can tell me how I'm like in this whole Central Finite Curve shit. I just killed off a real asshole of a villain and I need someone big for Captain La Guardia and his crew to go up against, and these other versions of me sound like the perfect villain: one guy, infinite power, zero morals."
